Martin will win the footy more times than not and use it very well no matter where he is on the ground. Just a pure match winner.

MIDFIELD QUESTION.
Martin might have been underrated at the Suns ,now we are seeing his potential and all the hype...has it all as we know
Midfield Placements -obviously he[Martin] can get the job done in the mids,BUT would be be more of an outside mid as would be Fish or Samo ...these are all smaller build potential mids who probably would not stand up to repeated inside mid body clashing especially long term.......and perhaps none of them will ever be able to bulk up to suit that purpose .....Hence the overkill on Dow coming good for his size and burst that has largely not materialized thus far.
Would say we are missing a large body inside mid or two still......or do we have it covered with setters/cripps/walsh/ed/murphy
No Walsh is a winger,Murphy has shoulder issues around tackling and is old,Setters can extract however may not have body for that job,Gibbons has good body for mid work and can be quite effective.
Perhaps Kennedy can properly overcome his ankle issues and do dedicated mid work,he has the body that can wear down oppositions.
2021 outlook for mid futures we have Kemp, philip, stocker.I think a couple winners in that bunch at least.

Verdict we probably require one elite large body inside mid.......

Martin is at his most dangerous, for the side, splitting his time between forward and midfield
Yeah and I think he will spend more time up the ground next year, what he also does very well is provide a very good option to players coming out of defence as he leads hard and fast, some of his team mates need to learn from this to give us better and more plentiful options rather than half heartedly leading.

Fisher is going to be permanent small and Samo will unfortunately be stuck in defense, as much as I'd like to see him in midfield or on a wing, Amos seemed quite adamant Samo had found his place.

Dow is biggest tease on list aside from Marchbank, don't quite understand what's going on with Dow, hopefully BIG 2021.

Setterfield can definitely step up and then all you'd need is 1-2 more, i.e. Kemp, Dow, etc to come good.

Ed is starting midfield any-day of the week, Murphy would be better in forward line imo.

Kennedy is half-forward at best, he's a good set shot, but can't see him playing anything dedicated midfield time.

Very keen on Kemp, utility of GOOD skill with that build, Stocker I'm not sure what to make of him, but pretty keen on potential, hopefully they play him in midfield, not defense like last time.

INSIDE MIDS - Cripps, Ed and Setters as the big 3, Kennedy for some depth, and then keep in mind we also have Dow, Stocker and Kemp.

In other words, 6 first round draft picks who happen to be inside mids. Sure we can target Oliver, but what about the investment of high draft picks we've put into every single one of the kids?

Surely at least 2 of the names above can be future stars alongside Cripps?

I can see Setterfield getting to Mundy Level.

That's an A grade mid
I think he can get to Mundys level, he's at Carlton at the right time. You just watch as the team impoves a few borderline players will improve.

I get the advantage he provided but, we were losing badly. He doesn’t need to be super man in every game anymore. Two way running is important and he needs to improve in this area.

I order to become a Dusty type, he needs to be fitter to capitalise on scoring opportunities. I believe part of his goal kicking woes are due to fatigue. His height and offensive ball use attributes will always provide an advantage in matchups as he goes forward.

We do have better runners around him which is a huge bonus. If he is running with them, he isn’t the stationery target for opposition defenders which will also minimise wear on his body.

Yea maybe. I still don't agree with it despite seeing the logic.

Always been of the opinion that you let the stars play to their strengths and let role players sacrifice their game for the benefit of the team.

Our past performances could be considered irrelevant to this though. Keep in mind we clearly had a group of players running around in the senior side that were never anywhere near the level.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how the 2021 season goes, but if Cripps has another down year, he needs to revert back to his original playing weight.

Agree and I’ve used the Mundy comparison before as I think our boy’s traits align very well with Mundy’s. Setters was our most improved by a country mile last year vs his previous years output and with a renewed confidence in both his body and his ability, he can go to another level again. I also think living with Walsh is a really good thing for him as Walshy will push really push him on the track and how he prepares.
