I could be mistaken, but I thought I saw an article saying they were looking to lock in a venue ahead of time and that the "highest ranked team gets the home GF" might be out given to the issues with finding a venue at late notice that doesn't conflict with cricket season.
The GF will go to the highest ranked team after the PF.
So all depends what happens on way to PF just like the mens
This was being discussed on Sunday ABC programme with Kelly Underwood.
No venue is locked in. Does not mean the AFLW have not been in discussions with venues and have some sort of deposit system in place

Being minor premiers helps with getting a home GF but it may not work out that way. Results have to go your way in lead up finals

It is possible with one round remaining you could have a Cats v Pies/Dogs GF, heaven forbid
GMBHA stadium is free that weekend so Cats finishing higher than Dogs/Pies play at GMBHA

I think the AFLW/AFL are hoping things fall into place so the highest ranked team does get the home ground advantage
In the Lions case that is a stretch but at least we won't have to travel

If Melbourne or a Melbourne based team win through they are lucky
Justin Beaver show on Saturday 26th has been cancelled at Marvel

If Adelaide get through i think they will be okay for a final

I checked "whats on at GMHBA, Marvel, Adelaide Oval, Metricon" for dates

What do most clubs do with their fields, which aren’t used for cricket as well, after the mens season finishes?

Would there be a ground in SEQ still up to standard?

Something needs to be done about the size of the grounds the AFLW teams play on. Aussie rules is supposed to be a high-scoring game, something that is all but impossible under current conditions as most women obviously lack the physical size and strength of the men. How hard would it be to move the goal posts - perhaps at just one end - and boundary lines inboard on AFLW match days? Women’s cricket is played on ovals reduced in size for the same reason. And it works well for them. Better yet, start building quality grounds that match the physical abilities of female footballers so that the game can be played as it should be. Higher scores will not only increase the spectacle. More opportunities to score will go a long way towards alleviating much of the congestion that bedevils the game as it is played at present at all levels. End of rant.

Not sure why your first post is on this subject, on the Lions board (you being a GWS fan). This very topic has been widely discussed on the Womens AFL board, might be an idea to read there.

I believe the current point of the discussion is that smaller grounds will lead to a much more congested game, limiting the ability of teams to get the ball on the outside, and transition the ball.

The best chance for higher scoring games is to see an improvement in the skill level and tactical awareness (game sense) in AFLW. And that will mostly come from improved junior development and pathways, and a full time, professional environment (and higher wages for players).

Footy v cricket: Lions’ push for Gabba granny

Brisbane will push ahead with its AFLW season confident it will be able to host the grand final in Queensland if the ladder leaders win the right to host the game.

The Lions will hope to finish minor premiers and while the Gabba is set to host a Sheffield Shield game on the weekend of the AFLW grand final, that game could be moved if the Lions win through.

Lions chief executive Greg Swann said the Brisbane AFLW team would host its first final at Metricon Stadium after playing there last week and in next week’s round 10 clash against Collingwood.

The club’s new Springfield elite performance facility — which boasts a 10,000-seat stadium — is one option for a potential grand final, but the Gabba is not out of the picture.

“If we were lucky enough to make the grand final we are confident it would be at the Gabba or Springfield,” Swann said.

“If the Shield game was moved from the Gabba they would have three weeks between games so the pitch would be watered enough to make it acceptable (for AFL play) but there is also a push to have it at Springfield if we qualify.”

What a debut for Springfield - to host the AFLW grand final. Make it happen, Lions.

Smaller grounds would certainly help address the issue of the lack of penetration in the girls' kicking, but you would probably need to drop back to 14-a-side to circumvent the inevitable increase in congestion.

My other bugbear, related to the above, which harms the spectacle of women's footy (men's, too) is the lax interpretation of the following law:
18.6.4 Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: No Genuine Attempt Where a Player in Possession of the Football has not had Prior Opportunity, a field Umpire shall award a Free Kick if the Player is able to, but does not make a genuine attempt to Correctly Dispose of the football within a reasonable time when Legally Tackled.
It's far too easy for players to create stoppages with little risk of penalty by, when tackled, clutching the ball to the chest, and often falling to ground to draw a ball-up (and we're the biggest offenders at this imo). Encouraging players to keep the ball in motion should be a prime objective of umpiring the game.

Not sure our girls would get any benefit playing a GF at Springfield. Would be like a neutral venue for both teams
In 12 months time that should change some

Best it be held at the Gabba for crowd numbers and the girls have a good record on the ground in limited games.
However i think the cricket community will be up in arms if a AFLW match is played on their wicket 3 weeks out from Aus v Sth Africa test match

Most likely it is held at Metricon where we play semi regularly and also have a good record.
A bugger for fans to get to though

Just one little hurdle though, we have to make it first by winning 2 straight
EDIT: Make that 3 forgot about the Pies this week

It is glaringly obvious the women's game is umpired different to the men in this regard.

No changes v Pies

For ladder watchers, Here's a chart of what Melbourne need to score today to beat our percentage of 282.383:

If WCE score 0, Melbourne need to score 77
WCE 1 Melb 80
WCE 2 Melb 83
WCE 3 Melb 86
WCE 4 Melb 89
WCE 5 Melb 91
WCE 6 Melb 94
WCE 7 Melb 97
WCE 8 Melb 100
WCE 9 Melb 103
WCE 10 Melb 106*
WCE 11 Melb 108
WCE 12 Melb 111
WCE 13 Melb 114
WCE 14 Melb 117
WCE 15 Melb 120
WCE 16 Melb 122
WCE 17 Melb 125
WCE 18 Melb 128
WCE 19 Melb 131
WCE 20 Melb 134

* a score of WCE 10 Melb 105 will result in a dead-heat for top spot. NFI what the league's contingency is for that circumstance.

Wow Mr Ripper
That equates to a normal 23 posts for you 🙃
I think we are safe regarding top position
If Melbourne overtake us they deserve the minor premiership
