I think we’ll find he's a starting midfielder. It's Jai, Worpel, Stephens starting and Finn on the bench.

The rest (Ward, CMac, Mackenzie, Husthwait) need to catch them, and go past them if they're getting games as midfielders.

Both Ward & CMac can (and will) get games playing wing and HF - they're in the best 22.

Nash and Morrison have their work cut out for them - they’ll end up depth players next year. Mackenzie, Husthwait, Weddel will be given games and will go past them by the end of next year.

Sam is ruthless, Tom and Jom weren't given games in the midfield, not because they wern’t good enough - they were not the future. Nash and Morrison find themselves in their shoes next year.

Not sure if you've missed the last three years of Worpel's career, because Ward, Nash and Finn have already gone well past him. All three offer things that Worpel simply doesn't.

Sam does appear to be ruthless. Which is why Worpel - an average paced contested midfielder with one trick, that offer zero versatility and is a poor kick, may continue to be in trouble.

Worpel is the one that's going to have to impress this off season. And last week at training (granted it was one session in isolation) he wasn't up to much, whilst Ward, Finn, Nash and MacDonald all were more impressive during that session. The latter two were clear standouts, whilst the former two cut their drills short to do some extra hard running.

I think it comes down to whether 2022 was a complete anomaly or a continued path.

His 2021 form was a decent bit above what Ward, Nash, Finn and MacDonald have produced so far.

I can see Ward and MacDonald moving past him even if he has a really strong run of form. Just because of the talent those two have.

All in all it’s going to be an interesting couple of years watching our young mids grow and who keeps stepping up and who doesn’t.

I think his 2021 form in total was average:
21.3 touches, 8.4 contested
0.5 goals
4.1 tackles
4.2 clearances
5 turnovers

He did have a good finish to the season though.

I agree that Ward and MacDonald will move past him. But I don't think they will be competing for the same spot, I think Sam will keep them in the team all season. It's Nash that he needs to overtake now.

I reckon Sammy loves Worps and he will given every opportunity to prove himself. His name came up in this convo when the Four Pillars said he hasn’t put a foot wrong this pre season and we don’t need to worry about him. I hope he’s correct because an inform Worps is a great asset for our midfield.

Been stalking the bombers pre-season thread and seems like they have even worse times. Fans don't seem happy. There is also a comment on players not showing interest in Umpires presenting about interpretation of new rules( they do for every club) & Umpires giving the feedback to club.

Reading their thread, it feels like lot of players are coasting.

They have recruited a few dickheads over the last few years and its hurting team harmony a little. I have second hand information from someone itk that its an issue at the club.

Friend of a friend so take it with a grain of salt.

Apart from Stringer, who are the other culprits?

Well then if our guys smash thru preseason and their targets, I would wager by 6pm on 21/03/2023 there will be blood on the floor & with some giving hot takes about dark horse for flag.

Unrealistic now but will seem very plausible when the murder scene does play out.

I went to a session and he wasn't up to much. He was trailing in the running drills, and there were several other midfielders that looked sharper in the midfield drills.

Granted it's one session in isolation at this point, so can't put too much stock in it. But that's not what you want to see.

I honestly hope he sorts himself out and we see the 2019 version of Worpel again, and I hope (even more) that he can somehow add another string to his bow.

He might but he also didn’t give him a lot of games last year
