Except for Finch, he kept them in it. We’ve made our bed for the tournament but can’t believe he’s still in the team.

He’s in really poor form isn’t he. He should’ve run himself out after giving away so many dot balls. Put pressure on Marsh, Maxwell and Stoinis.

Granted the Finch innings was far from good, at least he stayed there. Remember the thing that stops any momentum in T20 is loss of wickets.
Had he gone immediately after Warner, or Marsh it opens up having to restart.
It would have brought David in earlier that need be. Remember he is a work in progress, who knows whether he will be any good at this level.
Also Finch, though batting badly was still able to turn the strike over , giving firstly Maxwell then Stoinis the chance to swing the bat.
Finch is clearly under the pump for his spot and it is showing in his actions in the field and then when he was batting.

No, wasting balls is just as bad for momentum. Teams can't afford to have players with a test match strike rate. Sure, it's going to happen early but Finch continued to dot it up the whole time and hogged the strike early when Warner was looking good. The openers need to get off to a flyer while the field is up.

Finch had three runs in the 50 partnership with Stonis, that's not someone who is turning over a lot of strike. He also did a terrible missfield for 4 runs on the last ball of the Sri Lankan innings.

I'll agree to disagree.

The glorious Melbourne weather costing England by probably 5 mins how good is it.

Moeen Ali was on a roll I reckon another over they would have been above D/L score.

Yeah I'd often agree with your point not everyone needs to be all guns blazing but Finch just got horribly bogged down and I'd argue simply put extra pressure on his partners.

He would agree, and I do , he was bogged down, but imagine him getting out the ball after Maxwell. The Lankans were on a roll at that stage. They had bowled two over and one run from memory.
Bring David into play. We do not know whether he is the gift everyone seems to think he is. He fails ......... game over, series over for Australia.
You are right , the Finch innings was far from his best, not even close to it. Maybe his worst, but he kept his wicket when it was need.
I know many will disagree, but it is my opinion.

He was dropped at least once wasn't he?

Finch got lucky. His slow play kinda forced the other batter to swing for the fences. It could have totally collapsed
Agree, if they had have lost or Stoinis hadnt saved his arse, it could have been mid tournament career ending. It was one of the worst t20 innings ever all things considered

Dropped or deliberately put down so that he could stay in? The bloke caught Maxwell on the boundary the next ball so I recon it was the latter.

If we can all be mature... there's a big difference between clean taking a ball coming right at your face while you're staring it down and it coming from over your shoulder and you're moving under it, diving to try to take it by the end.

I am being mature. It’s a tactic that makes perfect sense and not against the rules as far as I know.

has to be one of the worst innings of someone who batted the full innings ever.

Last chance saloon for Finch tonight v's England imo. He is way out of form and has been struggling for quite a while now. It's too hard to carry anyone in 20 over cricket for an extended period.

I'm getting in early, a non Victorian side will have three injuries in a game and the narrative will be "this is why the extra man on the bench is a good thing" and then either Geelong or the Tigers will lose two players to injury and the narrative will be "this isn't fair that they have to play three on the bench to the opposition's five"
