I'd love to see games not involving Australia at the WACA for future ICC tournaments tbh. They should've had way more games in Perf for the World cup 20/20!
Way more.
The weather is better this time of year, two excellent venues, a bouncy fast pitch.
Its endless
Have australia been shot since Langer got fired?
Honestly the results with Langer bar last years T20 World Cup weren’t that great.
For me the English side that played in the Ashes last year was the worst English side I’ve seen in 20-odd years. 5-0 should’ve been seen as a pass mark. Should’ve won the Ashes in 2019. Should’ve beaten India in 2020/21. In all series we drew and/or lost matches we should’ve won. Especially against the poorest English side I’ve seen in 20 odd years that shouldn’t be ignored.
Yeah bit disappointing he settled for taking the test team back to No 1 in the world and didn’t push to get them to zeroth
I think you’re overrating our cricketers a bit.I was disappointed to draw with a historically bad England team in 2019. Headingly was a choke for the ages.
I was disappointed to lose to India in 2020/21 despite the team being in winning situations in two games. Another two chokes for the ages, although I must admit against a very good cricket team (despite Kohli and their whole bowling attack being unavailable).
I was disappointed to beat an even worse England side 4-0. To not be able to bowl that side (one test standard batsman and a test standard all rounder) out in 120 overs with our attack is piss poor. 5-0 was the standard.
A lot of the above is the players fault but there was a theme of throwing away games where we were the better team.
Make no mistake we achieved no.1 based on a two years where we had it easy. We played **** all games away from home, didn’t play South Africa (who are the only team that can consistently play decent cricket in Australia) etc.
There was nothing impressive about our test performances. The world rankings painted a picture that didn’t fit reality.
I’ll give Langer the World T20 win - very impressive with far from the best squad. Other than that the results were no where near good enough to make up for a dressing room that wanted him gone. The WA cricket public has a chip on their shoulder if they think otherwise.
I think you’re overrating our cricketers a bit.
Fair enough. Granted you didn’t actually say you rated them. I just think a 4-0 Ashes win should be celebrated as an achievement, not rued as a missed opportunity for a whitewash.Don’t see what part of my post overrates our players except maybe saying our test bowling attack is good.
We have three quicks that average under 30. We didn’t have that in the days of Warne and McGrath. Shane Warne was one of a kind which genuinely puts the late 90s, early 2000s team on another level but statistically we’ve never had three quicks as good as these three at the same time. I feel some people are only going to realise how good they are in 3-5 years when all our quicks average 30+. I genuinely think England’s batting line up is complete sh** in the test format - as bad as I’ve seen from a top six test nation.
If I said our batting was good I’d say fair enough but I didn’t. Same thing there when Warner, Smith and Khawaja retire. The fact hacks like Marcus Harris have even played test cricket shows just how ****ed we’ll be when these guys retire.
I'd normally rate a 4-0 Ashes victory but also think you've got take the quality of opposition into the equation. England are genuinely rubbish in test cricket atm.Fair enough. Granted you didn’t actually say you rated them. I just think a 4-0 Ashes win should be celebrated as an achievement, not rued as a missed opportunity for a whitewash.
The problem with our three NSW quicks imo is that they offer little pace variation from one another if conditions don’t suit them. These guys have great records but just look at the damage guys like Boland and Neser did last summer by offering something a bit different.
You’re dead right about our batting sticks but it’s endemic to all nations to a certain degree. There’s a lot more money to be made as a dazzling T20 batter than a dogged and determined Test batter and kids would rather learn how to switch hit over deep third man than how to protect their wicket all day. Having said that, even our T20 batters aren’t all that inspiring at the moment.
Crowds weren't great but I suppose play it at the WACA. But they simply don't have the facilities to compete. They should've had way more games in Perf for the World cup 20/20!
Way more.

Dunno. Limited overs performances bar the t20 world cup were about what I'd expect given the squads we had. The t20 WC was an awesome performance. The way I remember it we had a nice win loss record until the players got all ... precious and told Langer they didn't like his hard and heavy coaching standards. If I recall correctly CA came down on the side of the players, after that our win loss record went out the window.
I remember telling a friend when everything first came up that if they didn't clean the players out then Langer would be gone. TBH I'm just surprised that it took so long. Not at all surprised that our standards have fallen.
Watching us play at the moment I believe that unless specific individuals perform we will loose. Performances from the majority of the squad fit into the surprise category, not the expected one. But hey I always believed that CA picked NSW first, friends second, then the rest and WA boys only when sufficient blackmail material was obtained.

Ha ha so you’re argument is basically that you’re right and the whole of the way international cricket does it’s rankings is wrong
Ok then
The rankings would’ve had us where we belonged if we actually played the away series we were scheduled to in 2020 and 2021.
We’ve been ranked no.1 a few times in January/February in the last decade. It hasn’t lasted much longer than that since the days of Warne and McGrath (or just after).
Nothing wrong with the ranking system if teams played a normal schedule which we didn’t. So unless we have another global pandemic they’re fine.
I said which series I thought we should’ve done better in. Now which series other than the world t20 did we exceed expectations in? More than happy to write off the period where Warner and Smith were suspended btw.
No one seems to think he was hard done by other than WA cricket fans imo.
Crowds would have been good if they gave us an Australian game on a Friday-Sunday like we should be getting given we have the 2nd biggest cricket ground in Australia
You’re quite welcome to your opinion of course, though those avid WA cricket fans like Ricky Ponting , Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Matthew Hayden would disagree with you
I’m a WACA member and the World t20 wasn’t included in my membership. For a similar seat it was going to cost me $120 a ticket.
To put that into perspective that’s around a third of what I paid for my WACA membership which gets me into the game vs England the week before, every day of the test match, all Scorchers home games and all WA home games.
Then it’s 7pm on a Tuesday when I’ll be at work the next morning before 8am. Realistically I wouldn’t be on a stadium bus until 10:30 if I’m lucky so that’s possibly around 11-11:15 by the time I get home.
Oh and there’s the minor inconvenience (sarcasm) of not knowing who we’re playing until less than a week before the game.
Cricket Australia were greedy with the price and didn’t even make it worth my while. I decided to vote with my feet and watch it from the couch instead.
So WA cricket fans and a bunch of former team mates of Justin Langer?
I’m so much more convinced.
Nothing against Langer btw - I actually think he’s a very good limited overs coach. I’m far from convinced his shield or test record is par on expectations though.
You’re welcome to your opinions, just pointing out they’re not backed up by the facts
Praying for rain or England stinking it up on Saturday tbh.Going to be hard for Aussies to move past the group stage now.
