I like Darcy Jones speed but one skill that makes a huge difference with smaller players is if they play above there height eg Cyril, Crawford and Poppy!
How does he measure up in this side of his game ?

Yeh good call. I don't think he is a huge aerialist by any stretch but he can take a grab. He can hit up on a lead and use his leaping ability (75cm standing vertical and 87cm running vertical) quite well and is a nice judge of the ball in flight. He will end up as that small forward/high half forward in my opinion. A little bit like Jeff Garlett but far better midfield ability.

One of the things I like about him was that when he stepped into WAFL league level he played really well despite the bigger bodies. You can see those two league games below - 2 goals and 20 odd touches is good going. You have to be able to play to rack up 44 in any game which he did at colts level and put that next to his explosive athletic traits (2.9 20m sprint and all-time agility record) you have only one knock left really, height and weight.

If we could somehow add Tsatas and Jones with our first couple of picks there is our need for speed!

You're very strange and I'm certain you have watched no football after reading your posts. You even admitted to watching 1 game of George at school level and now he is the goat in your eyes. Clark has been rated top 6 all year by people that know alot more then you. Everyone has their favourites I get that but how can you say he has struggled all year , because you watched the country vs metro game like everyone else?.
I definitely don't have Clark in my top 10. I don't have him in my top 20.

For the record, every year the recruiters and the so called experts get the top 10 wrong.

In fact there has never been a year, in the history of the game, where they have got it right, or maybe some posters can point to the year where the top 10 picks ended up been the top 10 players of that draft.

It's never happened and it will never happen.

Did you watch the AIS Academy Game vs Collingwood's VFL side?

Wow.., that was emphatic… and has truth… some in the top 10 do not make it.
So prediction time Coach Killer …. which of the touted top 12 will be a bust?

For mine is Clark is not one of them…. be clear he is not my 1st or 2nd choice at 6(7) but I think he is a 200 Gamer.

With a 2026 premiership in mind. … anything earlier is delusional. (Jeff… I disagree)

I’d be happy to trade down and get players like Jeffries, Hotton and Clarke, with Van Es or Lemmy as the kicker.
and then target the high quality midfield player in 2023.

Everyone wants a win now! And that is where “everyone = the mob” fails. Patience is a virtue that is long lost …

Out of curiosity, can you please (honestly) let us know your thoughts on previous players from drafts gone by?

I'm interested in seeing your success rate on predictions like these.
There is no way of me providing you evidence of any claims I make.

Instead, what I can do is provide my top 10 this year and we can see how that compares with the recruiters and the experts in say 5 years time.

My top 10 (2022 Draft)

1. The Poo
2. Sheezel
3. Wardlaw
4. Ashcroft
5. The George Boy
6. Hewett
7. McKenzie
8. Tsatas
9. Munkarra
10. Ginbey

For me there are a couple that may not be busts but certainly not top 10.

Clark. Nothing against the kid, he's just a kid, but his rating is nowhere near his output and his game needs a lot of work if he’s going to make it in the AFL Hope he does and he has a long career.

The other is Cadman. He isn't the best player of this crop and certainly 100% not the number 1 pick. I don't even have him in the top 10. I have him between 11 and 20.

Well stated… brilliant that you put forward your ideas.
But the Poo as 1 is hard for me to agree With. He does not link up like others. Arrogance is, in my opinion, a reason to not draft him. Self confidence in kids = A tool. FIGJAM.

The Hawks have exclusively recruited people that work well with others and train hard.

The Poo exudes… other traits

So you reckon when we look back on this draft in 5+ years time there won't be one tall in a reordered top 10?

I can see Mark McKenzie and his recruiting brains trust already reworking their draft order to accommodate this valuable new information.

Darcy Jones and Dylan Moore in the same team would be a treat not to mention driving opposition fans crazy with the amount of head high frees we would receive.

If we really want to spite * we need to take Munkarra in the first round, cos it looks like he wont last past the top 10😂

In defence of Coach Killer (not that I’m suggesting he needs it), isn’t this a forum for a lot of people who mostly don’t know what they are talking about (I’m clearly in that pack) to express their opinion. In all aspects of my life am grateful for and seek out those who have the courage to speak their mind in a world where the mob mentality to conform is pretty bad. I don’t agree with his view of Jhye Clark but as the saying goes I absolutely defend his right to say it. We are all hawks at our core, I feel blessed to be born with a brown and gold umbilical cord and I am hoping for a return to greatness. For now I enjoy the banter and am appreciative of the insights and can’t wait for the draft.

With pick #24 I would love to see this:

Step 1) Trade it to Bulldogs for #21

Step 2) Bid on Davey #1

Step 3) Bid on Davey #2

Step 4) Bid on Rowston

Step 5) Bid on Michalanney

Step 6) Bid on any other father son

Step 7) Take Munkara

How are we trading 24 for 21 I tried to trade 48 for 49 and it became the worlds longest audit!!!

Gee, Hewitt has slid big time! Earlier in the year he was looking a top 10 lock! Swans were particularly big on him.
I watched that one great game he played at the Championships. If he’s still on the board at our second - or we manage to trade down a few spots to grab him - I’d be thrilled. He’s got traits we lack

Clark really is divisive (for myself included).

181cm inside midfielders without elite speed aren’t sexy in the modern game and Clark won’t win you the game himself. But his sheer tenacity and desire to win will put your team in that position. I remember watching him in the last round vs the Jets where he was dragging his team back into that game. Even in the Country v Metro finals in what was an unimpressive game that last quarter he was at the bottom of every pack and pressuring every opposition kick.

I wish his kicking was more consistent. He’s not a bad kick but the few games I’ve watched he can hit targets 40 metres away effectively then miss a 15 metre kick. This is the part that makes me the most uncomfortable.

I’ll pass on one titbit of information I received from a source I trust – the kid is extremely impressive in interviews.

Why would you wanna keep putting trade hypotheticals in here, you blokes? Im sick of blokes putting pick hypotheticals in the player discussion thread!!!!
