We rated weddle really high not only does he have great athletic traits bit he is also a very good kick and versatile. He was in the top 15 in our rated list maybe even as low as 12
The melts if we did the Dogs/Dees deal and drafted Weddle at 11/14 would have been fantastic.

Big Kakuna has the same weakness CMac1 had coming into the AFL. He's kicking after taking contact and at full speed was a bit blazey, he got under it a touch too much. Look at what we did to CMac. If our skills guys can get Josh up to half that improvement, we look like geniuses.

Weddle has the athletic traits that only go in the elite end of the draft. I'm pretty excited to have him on board, reminds me of how I felt after we snapped up Will Day.

I’ve got absolutely no doubt we could still have Weddle on our list in 2023 and not have given up what we did and how we did, to who we did.

Dare say our recruitment team had more of a clue about sharks in the tank picking Weddle before our next pick than you did.

So many overreactions here on the Weddle trade!

He was rated a top 15 prospect by most- obviously the club were very keen - seems very athletically gifted for his size- looks ready made and can play every position on the ground. A Victorian kid so no go home factor like we might’ve had with Ed Allan. I’ll back the club and recruiting team before bashing a trade for a promising young kid that hasn’t played a game yet…

We still have 2nd and 3rd round picks for next year- the Dogs have just lost a top player in Dunkley so will be significantly weaker - could see it only being a 3-4 pick downgrade in each round for 2023- it is still largely unknown how strong that draft will be and we’ve grabbed the kid we wanted in the 1st round this year!

MM and the team clearly love Weddle but they also have an eye on next year in terms of what will likely happen with McCabe (eating up those picks). For those who are melting, wait until after next years draft.

We will have likely added 4 1st Rounders in 2 years (MacKenzie, Weddle, 2023 F1 plus McCabe). Smart recruiting to me.
These types of people are spewing their rants online before the kid has even been presented with his jumper.

They aren't waiting 12 months to make an observation like that.

...So I actually watched the highlights of Weddle and to be honest his highlights are really good - better than most of the highlights packages out there - Might turn out to be a 200 game match winning key defender - I can see the move and I don't think the cost is all that high

Weddle (physically and athletically) looks a lock for round 1.

Love his attack on the ball and looks a ripper to me. Can play on talls and smalls and almost any position on the ground.

List shaping up Bee-ewe-tee-fool-e.

I agree that I see him starting out in defence but...

Watching some of Weddles highlights he has a few dashes up the wings that reminds me of Isaac Smith. 🤔

The melts aren’t about Weddle the player.

They’re about the package given to Sydney, and the fact that we had moved Titch and JOM to stack ourselves for 2023, which we have blown.

'Absolutely no doubt'

Haha righto

We were never trading down but it would have definitely been armageddon on here

Wow fancy being upset picking a 192cm, 92kg kid who is top 10 in the yo yo test, an endurance beast who is athletically gifted to play on a Cadman or a Sheezal ……. terrible decision.

Do your self a favour and watch the yo yo test live if you can …… have done it a couple of times with my kid and it’s torture! Respect.

Not sure I agree. Have seen enough posts from bummers offering 22 and F2 for pick 17 so they can pick Weddle. So surely 24 & F2+F3 is needed for pick 15.

Weddle was rated 15 in Cal's draft and had Sydney picking him, so is picked right at his level. Only question is on if he is the right fit for our list and on that i defer to the experts which is Sam and his team.

Dogs have pick 21(24), do you think pick 29 & 30 for 21 is a fair deal. Surely Dogs won't trade for just that. Ask dogs fans, same story here, the F3 is just the sweetner. Ok price to pay to get a top 1st round talent.

One thing I think the Weddle pick up does is put DGB on notice as I have them basically competing for the same spot (Full Back).

Not a bad thing as I reckon DGB needs some internal competition to bring out his best (he has definetly been gifted some games the last two years).
How the hell do you work that out? Most others have him at half back, possibly wing or mid, even forward. I cannot see how this puts DGB on notice at all.

I'm really surprised we made that bold move to draft Weddle though. The club must really rate him. I expected that we'd take George or Jones as soon as the move was made.

It was a huge trade and I love the ambition, but to draft a player that plays in a role that we are so well stocked in is an interesting move.

I wish I knew more about Weddle and would absolutely love to hear Peaking Mark and Sam's thoughts on the club's vision for him.
You say he plays in a role we already have plenty of players and yet…..you wish you knew more about him.

Guess what - he is 192cm / 92kgs (already) and frankly……..he has the ability to negate an opponent AND attack.

We actually don’t have many players who can do that in our team. They either lock down only, or they play way too loose.

About time we got a few more who can actually do both.
