Betts was referring to reading the ABC article, not the actual report. That has not been released in any form other than to the Hawks and the AFL.

The ABC article was not based upon what was in the report but interviews with 3 players and their families who reached out to Russell Jackson as a result of their participation in the review. Hence why Jackson was aware of the report and it being handed to the Hawks and then the AFL.

The review itself which is based upon the experiences of all of Hawthorn’s First Nations players and their experiences while at the club, stemming from the early retirement of Cyril Rioli and the reasons behind it. The report has not yet been released publicly. This was similar to the Collingwood “Do Better” report. Once Hawthorn received it they passed it on to the AFL for further investigation because of the findings so all parties involved could be heard and truth established.

The ABC article has sped up the timeline and scope of the AFL investigation and fact there is a report public.
Thanks for clarifying, that was my assumption based on caro's comments.

I still think it's poor form that they would publish the article during GF week, and pretty gutsy/risky releasing it without giving Fagan and clarko more time to respond to the claims. I believe they gave them 24hrs to respond, which is pretty standard for media, but given these are significant allegations directed at them.

I hope the players and their families aren't adversely affected by the ABCs decision, and I hope they aren't left hung out to dry if clarko or Fagan take legal action. There's a real risk this could get ugly for those who had the courage to speak out and I just hope they're protected and aren't subjected to further mental anguish as a result.

Flew with them today for the first time, and geez, I think the pilot was on their L Plates... was a very ordinary take off and landing. Very bumpy at take off and landing.

I've flown quite a few times recently with jetstar and Qantas, and those flights were smooth as you could ask for.

Other than the dodgy pilot, the plane was nice and clean, all other aspects of the service were comparable. I may have just gotten a dodgy pilot
The smaller the plane the bumpier the flight... including take off and landing.

I can tell fact that families on the other side are distraught .

Fair enough, I just think the way the ABC approached this was very poor. It appears as though the ABC and the journalist involved were fine for those involved (and their families) to become collateral damage in the pursuit of breaking the story, which in itself is an insensitive and heartless act. Regardless of their actions, those accused, as Damo stated, deserve due process and natural justice to play out.

I would have had more respect for the ABC if they had advised the accused of the contents of their story, and provided more time for them to seek their own answers (i.e. request a copy of the actual report) and respond to those claims within a reasonable timeframe (particularly given the serious nature of the accusations). Sending a request via email, and giving them 24 hrs to respond reeks of selfishness. It appears as though they conducted the interviews and rushed to put the story together in order to give 24 hrs notice in time to break the story ahead of the grand final to gain maximum exposure. They're no better than those they're seeking to expose. Shame on the ABC.

I know it doesn't matter but the rush to be first with news sometimes sucks , maybe not in this case

but during trade week etc

just let it happen then report

cos end up with so much fake news too

or I am just being stupid and make no sense

The trick is to split what is an actual rumour vs pure speculation and air time.

I just want to know who they are. Why not name them?
We now have been told what horrible people they were at the Hawks at that time. Balance is critical but not as simple as ABC.
If it's true it'll come out. To me Clarkos statement of "that's not how I remember it" didn't fill me with confidence

It did me .
Someone i know who works at a club said they brought a aboriginal boy over from interstate and he was soon joined by 11 members of his family , they didn't work got into a bit of trouble and relied on his rookie payments . It got so bad he wouldn't turn up to training etc , he was hauled in and was told he has to move away from them or he'll be cut . This is an example of what goes on and it's not just aboriginal boys . 2 sides

That's not what they want to hear Bedders.
It doesn't fit the narrative of what some sections of the media are going with.

Someone, no matter what colour of race, throws a handful of mud at me or my family, I want to know who threw it so I can tip a truckload all over them.

That's why i'm saying wait , then you have the gutless Slobbo and Wilson . If the so called offended aren't going to talk to an independent panel it's over . It's trial by media as when they say nothing =guilty , if they make statements that they will fight the accusations =guilty !

What would you do if someone changed your son's phone number so you couldn't talk to him? Why do you identify with Clarkson and Fagan and their families but not the families on the other side of this?
Because I believe in a fair hearing for both sides. Haven't heard Fagan's & co's side yet.
I want the full story from all so I can complete the picture. I haven't taken a side for this reason.
Lot's seems to have been left out. It's always so touchy but I don't care for that. Fair has to be fair.
