Maybe it was a seriously toxic relationship and the player was clearly struggling with it.

I've seen no proof so far that it was racially motivated. It came out because indigenous players were interviewed, but that on its own doesn't mean it was racially motivated. We only know one side of the story. Was this player in a desperate place looking for help? Perhaps they were simply given advice on how to escape a terrible situation. We don't know.

Valid points.

But even if it was initially driven by the player (I'm in no way suggesting it was), the complete disregard for the women in these cases is troubling to say the least.

I guess we wait and see.

Good point. Think we wait to see what comes of the investigation. It sounds horrific at the moment though

At the end of the day, we’re never going to know what really happened, as we weren’t there, and if this stuff did actually happen, then those who would sink to this sort of behaviour would also presumably have no problem at all with lying, to try and cover their asses.

Why on earth did the AFL integrity dept not let North Melbourne know something big was about to go down with Clarkson and to find another coach?

Staggering they'd just let this happen.
Like the AFL cares about the small Melbourne teams.

True. Maybe the journalist just asked indigenous players and plenty of other players went through the same thing.

Seems like Clarko will get his chance to set the story straight anyway.

I'm really not sure what was worst, encouraging an abortion or removing their contact from their partners and family. If I had a kid who was 18, no way would I want them coached by anyone involved. I also do not know why Clarkson and Fagan did not respond to the reporter before publication. They have access to very good legal support.

The report said that some coaching staff had been interviewed, why not those who had been accused?

I think the players would've known about something this serious which is why I'm confused as to why players like Hill who played under Clarkson during that time then want to go back to him, regardless if it's racially motivated or not.

While 1 player's report is the most egregious, the fact that there are others doesn't bode well for them. Where there's smoke... Tiger Woods anyone?

I just think for it to have been printed and gone this far there is very little chance of it being untrue and I’m happy to be proven wrong but I just can’t see how anyone can explain this situation where it’s not a preying on vulnerable kids (even if it’s for “their betterment”)
As we all know, after the article on Robbie Muir, the journalist who has exposed this story has a very good reputation.

I find it very hard to believe he would put this reputation at risk and write something like this which has the potential to explode in his face, if he wasn’t 100% sure of his facts. He’s not a gossip columnist.

Matt Finnis had absolutely no compunction in believing his story about Robbie and apologised without qualification to him.

Personally, I can’t see how this is not an accurate accounting of events.

As far as i can gather , ALL the information is from the report.
So if the journalist hasn't embellished anything, it will be what the report says.

This absolutely deserves further investigations to get to the bottom of it. I just don't like the idea of having Clarko and Fagan hanging from a lamp post before they've had a chance to defend themselves.

The media don't work that way, they shoot first and ask questions later, just look at the Kim Duthie scandal where the media tore our club and players to shreds for months before it was finally revealed that she was spinning a heap of lies. No apologies were offered by any of the media outlets though.

Yeah, poor old Ricky Nixon. LOL.

You know it isn’t, you also know that is beside the point.
Why is it legal if its besides the point?

I understand its controversial but if the player had come asking for advice and the advice was .... have you considered this legal option?

Currently we are seemingly only hearing one side of the story ..... and latest is Clarko refuting all allegations!

I find it more troubling that in this day and age that a player would allow themselves to be removed/relocated from their families and communication cut off without said player standing up for their rights and telling the club to get fkd on the spot

Amazing that Hawthorn actually had the balls to do it ..... if it is indeed true

What a mess!

It is, the below on its own however is still a horrible look for a leader of young men.

- Other players allege that coaches coerced them to remove SIM cards from their phones and insert new ones to cut them off from their partners

- Three families involved told ABC Sport about incidents in which club staff allegedly bullied and removed First Nations players from their homes and relocated them elsewhere, telling them to choose between their careers and their families.
Sounds like something out of the 60’s.
That such a thing could still be happening in the more recent past is just mind-bogglingly awful.

Yeah, poor old Ricky Nixon. LOL.

I wasn't referring to Ricky Nixon when I said our players, he deserved what he got, the likes of Riewoldt, Gilbert and a few others didn't deserve to be dragged through the media wringer like they were though. Gilbert was never the same player after that so I've got no doubt it affected him pretty badly.
