Heard that this morning. Kane said the same thing after 2021. Yet at the end of 22 he was saying to keep Ken, despite not even making the 8

Kingy is spot on.

Rooch sent out to humble things down...

To be fair, he's right. Our squad is no where near good enough to finish in the top couple. On talent we probably sit mid table, especially given our defensive and ruck concerns.

Problem is how many years do we allow Ken to keep plodding away, failing to spark any over-performance or sudden growth, when his message is stale and clearly flawed.

Rucci is clearly overlooking that it really isn't about the expectations, it's about the reality of us needing to move on unless Ken can trigger something special from the group. The likes of which we haven't seen since 2014.

How good was that and finally, a consensus view that its a Gf or bust for Donuts.
Clearly the JH/Port related anger has helped King take his Hinkley rose coloured glasses off.

Our tall defender deficiency is major concern but we cant wait till next year to possibly get an interstate recruit. There is no certainty Ben McKay or others are going to move interstate. This includes Ratugolea who wanted to move to Port end of season 2022. A lot can change in a year, in regards to Ratugolea he may sign with Geelong...

Best option is to use the personal we have already. Trying Teakle as KPD who can pinch hit in the ruck during the practise games with WC & Freo may show some promising signs and gives us insurance if Lycett goes down in a game. Likewise Ollie Lord last season played as a key back for the Maggies but now training with the forwards during this preseason from what I read.
Lets try to develop one of these two first before we have hopes on an "interstate saviour".

I agree with trying Teakle back there. Would prefer Lord be developed forward.

If the team isn't that good then it should have been unquestionably blown up after the 2021 prelim. Rucci is talking out of his backside as usual trying to deflect the pressure that's coming Ken's way.

Ken should embrace the pressure though. The last time he was under such pressure at the end of his contract was 2020 when he had imo his best coaching season and the team fully deserved being top at the end of the home and away season. Granted, covid made the circumstances different but you don't stay top of the ladder all year by fluke.

That being said, I saw nothing in the trial yesterday to suggest Ken's future is going to be a contentious point going forward this season. I'll be surprised if they make the finals and being in that limbo position isn't going to get Ken an extension.

Rightly or wrongly that sorta approach has never been part of the Hinkley mantra and Koch era. They've always been about steady incremental gains and specific targeted moves.

The ambition to remain stable and to just be competitive, continues to supersede the desire to take risks to try to win flags.

We actually did address our key defensive post needs, for the first time in ages. We drafted 2 genuine defenders, McCallum and Marshall and went after Rat. We also went and drafted another project Key Forward, something we have avoided over stocking for decades.

However our deficiencies ain’t Key Post defenders, it’s the log jam of Clurey, Jonas and McKenzie holding back Passini from a first 18 gig. McKenzie is under rated, Jonas Over rated and Clurey far to hot and cold.

Geelong moving Henry forward to possibly cover Hawkins and keeping the Rat in defense is interesting 🤔 lol.

None of those players you listed as a logjam are key defender size. That's the problem with our list.

The irony here is that they ignore past Port Adelaide history which shows you can blow up the team relatively speaking and actually improve to win a flag in the process.

In the 2003 off season Port moved on Paxman, Cockatoo-Collins, Guerra and Stevens all of whom were best 22 players. They then went and moved KPF Chad Cornes to CHB and Peter Burgoyne from the forward line into the midfield as an on-baller.

You can blow it up and actually improve. This Club has proven that is possible. Koch would never believe such a thing though.

Stability = Stale.

And who is accountable for the list? They talk about the list like its some sort of uncontrollable luck based entity where we just get random players who develop on their own and thats what we're stuck with.

We've had total stability, the same senior coach and administration for a decade. The state of the list is 100% on them and if after 10 years we still havent put together a competitive list then they must be held accountable for that and go.

I loved the interview with Chad Kornes regarding the quality of the trial match. He didn't deflect from the fact that some players may feel they are too comfortable in their position. He want scathing, just honest...
As a general rule, I prefer Chad’s candid, blunt responses to our poor performances as well, and didn’t mind him calling out the Trial game for the scrap-fest that it was. I much prefer his way of speaking to the supporters than the condescending gaslighting that we get from almost everyone else associated with the club or it’s two main media mouthpieces (Rucci and Kornes). What I’m most cynical about with Chad’s take of the trial game, is that 1) I have serious doubts about whether he can actually coach himself; and 2) I also doubt whether our training standards have been as high as he suggests. Our skills looked at a very low level on Friday evening.

We may have Gassed the lads with a heavy block prior to Preseason matches so we right for Round 1. Opposed to leaving it too late and being cooked for the first 5 rounds last year? If someone needs to play Devils advocate?

Chad may or may not be able to coach, but he is able to build relationships and motivate individuals. Was passionate when coaching the Magoos years ago. Prefect bloke to be a line coach.
