The issues I have with quoting King as a prominent media figure are

a) He is a lizard. His treatment of JHF over the summer has been reprehensible, it was as if he was actively trying to undermine JHF's mental health for leaving an environment JHF considered toxic to his development.

If JHF wants to get King back onside, maybe he should try coward punching a teenager in the head? Or would that only get your character the David King tick of approval if he was from a private school?

This guy's appearance on our board as a quotable source does not suddenly become acceptable just because he's shit-potting Hinkley.

b) His opinion is disposable like a bic lighter and has a shelf life of hours. If perchance Port has let's say an 8-3 start to the year, he'll be demanding Hinkley be re-signed.

c) If we flounder from the start of the year, all the media will be into Hinkley, not just King. His opinion on the situation will not make a scrap of difference to the decision made on Hinkley's coaching future.

I suspect Kane and Rucci's commentary will reflect the direction the club is heading. There comes a point where the Ken's an excellent coach wall of sound is universally unpalatable.

I don't have the same opinion of Kingy though anyway. I think he's a mediocre commentator who bases a lot of his analysis on statistical data which is fine. It means IMO he hits the mark brilliantly on some stuff and allows confirmation bias to affect himself on other stuff. He's opinionated and I don't bag anyone that is so, if they back it with some info. It doesn't make him always right.

The key part here for mine is that in the last 2 excerpts I've seen of his, he is starting to actually identify our shit gameplan and over rated defence. The fog is lifting on Hinkley's charade. He's a key figure in the media, and if this sort of line starts being pedalled more than not, it will only help heighten the awareness of everyone. Especially given the incredible blind eye that has been seemingly turned to Hinkley for a long time.

Anyone that watches us that doesn't realise our backline is not good, and is heavily benefitted by a shit defensive gameplan, is still drinking the cool-aid. So these sort of comments are well overdue.

This goes both ways. If you have a shit defence then you need to coach around it so that it isn't exposed. A gameplan that limits your weaknesses is often better than trying to enhance an existing strength. That's basically how Hinkley has been coaching for the last 5 years.

End of the day I'll take a deadset boring gameplan if we're winning.
