I am a bit surprised that nobody has picked up Dan Howe in the DFA period. Granted it might happen post-draft when list sizes are more solidified, but I think he would be a bloody handy player for a contending team.
I'm not sure. If you're a contending team, you've got better "dependable" players than Dan Howe. Not sure he really adds much to a Geelong, Melbourne or Brisbane. They would already have their players in that 25-30th on the list range that they see as coming in when needed. Howe doesn't have a big enough "weapon"

I'd think he offers more to a rebuilding side like North, Crows or Eagles.

Think he surely goes to North. They need some experienced bodies.

I think Norf are much like us though - depth players are not as desirable. I see Howe being an asset in a side like Brisbane or Collingwood who might need midfield/hbf depth.

Fair call, I see it differently as posted above - but those 3 sides would probably see their lists in similar positions to ours and wonder why we cut him. Just hope he ends up somewhere as he certainly didn't lack in endeavour.

Given we basically gave away one of our better players in Mitchell, it’s not surprising clubs aren’t interested in someone like Howe who couldn’t even hold down a spot in an ordinary side over recent years.

He won't get into the side of a contending team, that's the issue. He may prove to be a decent backup though.

I really hope someone does offer him a lifeline.

Recent year*. Was a regular in the side prior to Mitchell's ascension.

Don't know if this is the right thread and prepared to get roasted for this but I'd 100% rookie list Dan Hannebery. Would be cheap and offer so much leadership which we lack a little bit. Pending we have a free list spot.

Think he's done with footy TBH.

Hannerbery is not a leader.

Just not sure what actual leadership he'd provide if he's not playing. Looked cooked years ago last time I bothered to watch him. If we play him in the midfield would rather have just kept Shiels and stopped playing him as a forward.

Feel like I've said this to 100 suggestions of "why don't we rookie list X 30 year old for leadership and toughness", but if we really cared about a lack of leadership and toughness we would have just kept Shiels.

And honestly if I was Shiels and the club drafted a Hannebery/Robinson I'd be pretty bloody upset!

Whatever chemicals you’ve been using to clean your house - next time open some windows.

Probably the worst trade/free agency suggestion i've seen put forward this year.

Wish I could thumbs down this twice,
What a horrible take.

There are no guarantees to the strategy that Sam has implemented but it is the best way forward.
The strategy could fail because the players we have and draft and trade in the next few years are just not good enough to compete for the prize and then unfortunately we would have to scrap everything and try again
There are no guarantees to anything in life
