Leather Poisoning

Not a criticism, I'm just wondering why it's hard for you to get excited about Mackenzie? I don't think you're the first to have expressed that sentiment too.

IMO based on the footage available his kicking skills look sublime and he seems to be very clean around the contest. He's also a great size for a midfielder and tested well athletically.

That kind of kicking ability through the middle is something that we have lacked for a while now.

I agree that he was a safe bet though, but I also think he's essentially the missing link to add to Newcombe and Ward especially.

On a side note, I can't imagine Clark or Ginbey would have been more exciting picks. The former especially.
It’s because he looks and sounds like he’s about to audit you…sorry vous auditer!

I wouldn't call Sam Mitchell, Pendlebury and Simon Black exciting players. Elite players with incredible footy IQ and disposal (which I can see Frenchy emulating with his skillset) but they don't quite catch the imagination like a Cyril, or an Aker or a Dustin Martin would.

It's funny because I actually like watching Mitchell, Pendles and Black types just as much as the others. The "how the **** did they see that" or "how did they manage to wriggle out of that stoppage" moments are just as exciting to me as any flashy goals or marks. Moments like Sam Mitchell seeing a bloke coming to smother on one side so he changes foot mid ball drop and drills a pass right to a team mate.

Exciting in different ways IMO. I think the average kid or punter is going to get a lot more wide-eyed with the athleticism/power of a Dusty or the freakish skill of an Aker.

I love watching the more 'cerebral' midfielders who just happen to be at the right place at the right time or release the ball at the very last second to someones advantage. Jack Macrae for the Dogs is one of my favourite midfielders going around.

We really need some x-factor though.
Cyril, Buddy, Roughy, Burgoyne, Breust, Gunston, Poppy - these guys could pull some goals out of their arses when you least expected it.

Sam Mitchell had a superhuman level of balance and lateral awareness.

The way he would step sideways out of a pack and those little shimmies before disposing of the ball on either foot were just beautiful to watch.

And Nash!
Yeah I’m a wait and see on Nash. I have him as depth.

There's only 4 spots available each week and I have them as Jai, Worpel, Stephens and Finn and I think Mackenzie, Ward and CMac are next in line and will be given the games in the midfield before Nash.

Unfortunately for Nash he can't play anywhere else. Maybe that changes next year. He seems a ripping lad, hope it works out for him and the team.

Can't play anywhere else....apart from ruck, ruck rover, centre, wing, hff..
Sam sees it differently to you.

Nash hasn't played on the wing nor HFF.

The result of him (and Kosi) being forced to play in the ruck was the reason why the club went hard at recruiting Meek.

Ruck rover and Centre are the exact same position these days.

He deserves a chance at playing in the middle and not being moved around, but he will have a group of youngsters and the likes of Worpel and Stephens competing for limited spots. Only Newcombe, Ward and maybe Maginess would be safe at this stage.

Very much doubt Sam sees it any different. Nash isn't a starting mid and given we've just recruited another 4 youngsters to play in the midfield he's chances are limited.

Played 21 of 22.
Contract extension under Sam.
Nash is a starting mid who has played ruck, ruck rover, centre, wing, HFF and floated into the back line too.
How do you spell versatile?

The same Sam who identified Nash as being a midfielder as opposed to a forward as Clakro was trying? Same Sam who played him 21 games last year? Same Sam who while playing under gained a 2 year extension with the club?

I am all for the young kids coming for his spot - if a few of the draftees surpassed him this year it would be a boon for our team. However I think Sam rates Connor much more highly than you do at present.

Then why is he in there when we have specific stoppage drills, as a mid?

This 100%.

Its why I'm big on Watson next year.

Time to start adding some excitement machines to the 22.

Totally random but I saw Nash at the Killers concert last night. Towered over most of us walking there.
He is in my 22.

Also he has better legs than most girls I've dated.
You never quite realise how tall 197cm is until you see it in the flesh
