Needs to make Sheezel feel like he is actually at Hawthorn

As much as it would be great for sheezel come to HFC, can’t see it happening anytime soon.

Gonna need north to continuously be bad and for us to give up a first rounder or an established A grader (which are few) Perhaps in a few years when we are up the ladder and presents as a destination club then it may be possible.

Nash on one wing with Amon on the other. Nash to rotate a bit with Day in and out of the stoppages. Amon to rotate a bit with Morrison. I know it sounds crazy but I reckon Meek could do cameos as a centre clearance mid, as Roughead used to do.

Our best teams have had three players capable of wing or outside work

We really need some x-factor though.
Cyril, Buddy, Roughy, Burgoyne, Breust, Gunston, Poppy - these guys could pull some goals out of their arses when you least expected it.
This is what we badly need. Xfactor forwards. Forwards will be the focus of the next two Trades/Drafts periods. Remember Bruest has to be replaced.

The forward six of Buddy, Ruff, Bruest, Jack, Poppy and the incredible Cyril, won’t be matched but I hope we can get close. That is what Premierships are made of.

Not that I didn’t enjoy it, but they were mostly specialist forwards and didn’t grow to be specialist mids, so we had to go shopping when our midfield aged

I think the coming squad will have potential mids filling forward spots, so will be flavoured differently

There aren't many fullbacks going around at 197cm - he'd be amazing to watch if doing it.
Well... not really, because you'd have t watch rugby league to watch him, which would remove a lot of the intended amazingness immediately.

He’s union background right?

O'Rourke was effusive, suggesting that Nash could easily thrive in professional rugby. He has already played for the Leinster U18s at full back.

He is a superb player and we were just glad to have him while we did. He has all the makings of a most brilliant footballer...
I’d love to see him playing for Simonstown and centre-field for Meath, but he could play rugby for Ireland, he’s had offers there, and now he’s got the offers of Aussie Rules, so we wish him well.
I hope he does well down there but at the same time I hope he does come back to us too. Him in the middle of the field in Croke Park would be something I’d love to see.

Yes but being that I’m not determined to be frequently miserable I’m able to enjoy multiple sports even if Aussie Rules is my preferred option.

He’s union background right?

Gaelic and Union yes. His size and speed would easily see him translate to league though.

As a group they were just about our greatest forward line of all time.
Change my mind... :)

Angelo Lekkas is a manifestation of my Hawthorn fandom as a young kid.
I was 18 by the time our 08 flagged was won.

The idea of Lekkas being around for that premiership would be like the Dinosaurs walking with modern man.

Ben Dixon missing out by one year is already strange enough to think about.
Dixon, Joel Smith and Vandenberg all missing out by 12 months. After the terrible years they had to endure it seemed harsh they missed out on the cream.

Homesick?

He was recruited from Colac and the Geelong Falcons.

He has moved because of opportunity. He saw himself behind several players, at a reigning premier, that just made two big moves for players that will also be competing for the same spots in the side.

Players don't just move from reigning premiers to a bottom six side because they supported them as a kid. He's moved because he believes he will have a better chance of playing senior football for us, and he does.
Or he'll be paid double.

I think he played for fullback for Ireland age group too, considering Leinster is the strongest province not surprising. At that height he's got an advantage under the high ball, which especially in Ireland they use to test the nerve of the oppo fullback.

Stynes, Keneally and Tuohy are the only genuine Irish successes (Wight was Scottish).

Stynes played purely as a ruck who then followed the ball everywhere. There were far less complicated midfield plans in the 80/90s. Tuohy, Keneally and Wight were simple basic play behind the ball and on an opponent defenders, who then run off when they get the chance.

We have spent 6 years trying to teach an apple how to be an orange, mainly because he’s been the only big athletic player capable of running through the middle and dwarfing opposing players.

Our approach to developing Nash has been ordinary to say the least. Now we have finally drafted / recruited some taller mids who have played this game since they were 5. Will be interesting to see if Nash stagnates or continues to develop / play catch up with the natural football players
Conor Glass stiff

I miss the days when Gunston was our fifth best forward

All fit and firing - Wingard, Breust, Moore, Brocky & Butler off the bench, are going to make a mess of many defences in 2023.

Lewis & Jeka are my preferred tall combo up forward but it looks like it will be Lewis & Kosi with a rotating Ruck resting forward.

All the same, we should be kicking 15 goals a game. 10-11 from our forwards and 4-5 form our midfielders/Rucks.

Jai, Worpel, Frogga and Amon are all capable of kicking long goals along with Ward, CMac, and the Rucks who can also hit the scoreboard.

Special Note: Would love to see CJ & Day given games as forwards. Their ability in the air and their attack would make them a difficult match up. They both also have X-factor in spades.

We've got a finals list - the boys just have to believe, coz once it clicks we’re going to be a nightmare to play against.

Just add Nash.

I’m really hoping Jeka makes CHB his position.

Blanck has FB locked in.

Sicily and DGB are tall intercepting defenders (Frost as well). Or at least that’s their best position IMO.

He don’t have a legitimate CHB…yet. If Jeka can make it his, then that’s a massive bonus.

Man you speak a lot of shit

Only three successful Irish players??!?!

If you play more than one season of AFL that's some measure of success

So for you a player needs to play in a premiership or win a Brownlow! Laughable. How successful do you rate your own life ??

Similar thoughts to mine, my interest is in the third tall.

I did ask in another post the thoughts on Kossie and where his instincts are: either fwd or back. Going back a couple of years we were needing some height and weight in he fwd line, and Kossie showed a glint at the right time. Gut feel though is that he is a born defender, so not sure trying to manufacture a fwd version of him is going to bear fruit for our current needs ... Fast fwd two years and Sam is addressing the issue of being undersized across each line, especially now that it appears we will station a ruckman up fwd. That said - I don't think we can have a second 'non-natural fwd' down there. That is why I am sceptical around Kossie, and probably have more interest in Jeka and Green for the role of third tall at this stage.

I am also mindful that delivery into the fwd line will be a lot more precise with Amon, Ward, Frog (Richie Cunningham) and co. This is why I am thinking about Jeka and Green being able to naturally manufacture space. I feel the need to say that I felt sorry for Jeka back in the day where Clarko just had them bombing the ball in giving him little chance to show his ability on the lead. I'd like to see him given the chance to use his natural attributes under a more precise and aggressive game plan.

I also agree with CK that we have a raw finals list if we can get all the parts in the right order.
