Tunstil coming in and looking like 1 of the better players, fairly consistently in the 2nds should give people a decent measuring stick of the quality of play in the ressies.

B.Coleman has been better than I have seen him before, like the look of Lane in the ruck, Matho, junior Berry and Robertson our best, Tunstill showing great glimpses as far as potential AFL quality is concerned. Harry Sharp was quiet.. BOG for me Dev Robertson, he shades T.Berry due to his calmer disposal and really good hands in close.

Tunstill is a while away with his lighter frame I think but has some standout qualities.

I also think Wilmot looks really good when he doesn’t try to do too much. At the moment he seems to attempt the high risk option way too often. I’m hopeful that’ll improve.

There’s nothing particularly about Dev or Berry which makes me think they’re immediate ins or likely long-term players. Berry seems a little more versatile. Dev perhaps a better true mid but if Ashcroft comes in next year I’m still not sure where his spot will be.

Agreed with all this, thought this was probably Wilmot's best game, had a real good change of direction and pace, took the simple option more often than not and just seems to get into good positions to get the footy. I think giving him a lot of kick-ins early is a good move to help him learn what he can and can't do.
Agree on Dev and Berry as well unfortunately, their best way into the team is to replace Lyons which is probably another year or two away. Ashcroft coming in will only make it tougher as he is probably more versatile while also being a great pure mid.

I don't understand why Buzza ever rucks when we're trying to develop Lane, Smith and Fullarton
Just wild speculation but is Fullarton at risk of being delisted and to save a few dollars Buzza might be able to gain a rookie or lower paid contract. No doubt club is desperate to keep McStay and Gardiner

I doubt Fullarton is on enough money for that to be considered saving dollars.

I like Tunstill. Natural footballer and looks like he has the frame to bulk up.

I don’t think he will have a very high ceiling but could be a very good role-playing foot-soldier at AFL level.

would he be on $170 to $180K? Just a wild guess
No idea but he wouldn't be much more than minimum would be my guess. I don't think we're as tight for money as we have been the last couple years. Haven't been any articles or anything suggesting that we've got no wiggle room.

I think rejigging Joe’s contract may have bought us a little breathing room.

The players that impressed me the most were Robertson, Wilmot, and 42 who I think is Cox (the lions website seems to have butchered his profile).

Robertson was a class above the other mids, he had time when he had the ball, and was clean with his ball use on a day where few were. We appeared to lose a lot of centre clearances when he wasn't there.

42 was a class above as well, playing on the wing mostly, clean hands, ran to all the right spots, good ball use, and won his share of the contested footy.

Wilmot took the game on out of defense with his run and carry, for the most part made good decisions and kicked well.

Tunstill covers the ground easily, tidy user of the footy, and gets himself in the right spots. Berry worked hard but unfortunately his disposal let him down all day. Sharp was quiet, and Madden almost looked lost out there, and provided very little rebound. Senior fringe players Lester, Cockatoo and Matheson did their jobs.

I probably have his ceiling a bit higher. I'm blown away by his rate of improvement thus far. He stands out already at VFL level and he's not even half way through his first season at senior level.

I could easily see him having a career the equal of someone like Lyons.

Me too, although I see his ability to kick goals as a real standout. If that translates to AFL, watch out.

I don't get to see the 2nds. After reading thru this thread the way I'm reading players form is

Dev- injury interupted start to season. Been played fwd, to develop goal sense, still getting good mid time. Form now good enough for firsts.
T Berry- big improvement this year, more midfield time, disposal under pressure can still be a problem. Has nearly earnt a firsts call up.
Madden- gone backwards a bit. Is there a lack of interest? Did the extended time home in Ireland make him homesick?
Ely- had some good games but not consistent enough.
Tunstill- showing some real good signs, coming on nicely.
Lane- good signs in the ruck, worth persisting.
H Smith- had a few injury niggles. Shows good signs as ruck/fwd. Worth sticking with.
Wilmot- going well, tries the remarkable to often. Needs to settle and play the percentages a bit more.
Carter Micheal- steady, consistent without being flashy.
Payne- ready, willing and able to step up.
Matho- still Matho.
Lester- steady, been a very good role model and onfield coach for the young blokes.
Fullerton- slight improvement in fwd craft, but his one appearance in firsts not convincing.
B Coleman- not there yet, can get lost.
Mcfadyen- been good fwd, 3rd tall/med fwd. Bit of mid time. Up n down.
Uosis- unconvincing.
Cox- could well be a handy player when his fitness hits afl level.

Is that about right? Just going on what I've read here from others assessments.

Havent managed to watch all of every game yet, but that lines up with what I've seen
