Discussion on Matt Crouch situation

Rendell really has lost the plot, reckons we could get a second rounder for Brown.

Raises a point though, what happens if no other club wants Crouch, do we pay him out?

Have we gotten to the bottom of whether he is actually guaranteed a contract for 2023?

What club tells a player they won't be offered a new contract a year ahead of them coming out of contract?

He plays SANFL. That's it. If he chooses to crack it, then he does himself a disservice and has no chance of playing AFL again. If he dominates the SANFL and averages 40 a week, he just might get another look in at another club.

Matt Crouch remains frustrated at being out of Adelaide’s side but has not been told the club wants to part with him at season’s end.

The Crows midfielder has been dropped three times this year, raising doubts about whether he will stay at West Lakes, even though he is contracted for 2023.

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks keeps stating he wants the 27-year-old to stay at the club and privately is understood to not be forcing his exit.

This story has all the hallmarks of significant disagreement and discontent between the club and Crouch. I would think this has been instigated by the Crouch camp complaining about his treatment this year at selection. Family history is likely an emotive factor as well. In short, the Crouch family feel betrayed by the club and particularly, the coach.
Things seem to have deteriorated to the point the club no longer want a relationship to continue probably because of the seepage out of negativity and favouritism into the playing group. Matt Crouch, whether rightly or wrongly, looks to have become a "rotten apple". If this is in fact the case, the club has correctly brought this to a head by choosing to be clear about the players future. Matt might have some support within group but I suspect, not much. The recent signature of Tex might have been his last hope for any leverage against the club and now he's alone in his discontent.

Matt Crouch has been a club champion and a hard working and valued member of our club. I am sure that the club and Nicks had hoped he would remain that player. Unfortunately for him, his form warranted him being dropped. He just doesn't recognise his reality however.

The club has said "it's over now Matt" and he has the choice of leaving in one of two ways. Either on the back of a Hilux doing a lap of honour, or skulking (and sulking) out the back door like Talia did.

His legacy will be defined by what he does next. I hope he has some good counsel.

Yeah, I forgot he’s getting on a bit. But he’s still an excellent, lock down defender for a contending team looking for a plug and play option

I don’t think late 2nd round is out of the question in the right circumstances
I just can’t see that happening, older players have very little currency at the trade table, especially one with the recent injury history of Brown.

Look, the odds are you’re probably right. But a senior, plug n play with 3 years left to a contender, without huge $ seems a bit light at pick 50

And I don’t see us doing it.

Pick 38-40 maybe we do

Depends what else we’re doing and what Luke wants to do. If he wants to spend the end of his career at a contender, and we need to free up a list spot, or that late pick is what we need for a pick swap that gets us a second rounder we’re keen on then it makes sense.

We royally f..ked up .
WE can only assess, after Turner has played AFL ......not reading much into Carmichaels early games, but 20% DE a bit alarming
