I'm sure you watched but for others that may be interested - I watched about 2/3 of the game. I have seen a handful of GC academy games over the past 1-2 years, but certainly not a 'draft watcher' or super familiar with all of the players appearances - so may have overlooked some things.

Swans won 66 - 60

Finn Brown - clear best player for the Suns IMO - explosive shortish but solid mid. Kicked a nice set shot with man on the mark at 45m.
Jed Foggo - big boot - 60+m kick, tough around the contest.
Lockett - Smooth mover and played a bit through the middle.
Stevens - athletic and looked dangerous in the F50 but didn't get on the end of too much.
Bella - Didn't do a heap.
Eckersley - involved but not super clean with his kicking.

Big wraps on Corbett but didn't notice him much.

NAB League Sat 2nd April

Northern Knights 95 def Swans Academy 26

Calder Cannons 56 def v GWS Giants Academy 52

Western Jets 89 def Brisbane Lions Academy 66

Geelong Falcons 68 def Gold Coast Academy 67

Meanwhile in Victoria, the NAB League started up again with plenty of Victorian and Northern Academy prospects finally getting to show their wares. The Swans Academy took on the Northern Knights in less than ideal conditions at Highgate Recreation Reserve, making for one of four academy appearances in Craigieburn.

For Sydney, the player to really take the eye was Indhi Kirk – the son of Swans champion, Brett. He looked classy in the wet conditions, showing great composure and skill while also hitting the scoreboard. Despite his lighter 179cm frame, he was able to impress in conditions that suited the bigger bodied midfielders

Actually, 5.

HF: Jason Gillbee (BP) is GWS Academy apparently.

How does that work? Was it a misprint?
No, not a misprint, he plays for a Victorian team. We often have kids who start in GWS Academy from the rural NSW areas end up in Victorian boarding schools, but (depending on circumstances) remain eligible for the academy and often play some games for the academy team during the year as well as their Victorian NAB League (and school) team.

Examples of past players who were GWS Academy aligned but playing for Victorian teams in the NAB League include Jacob Hopper and Will Setterfield. This year Jason Gilbee and Angus Curry are in that circumstance.

Obviously, it depends on what you meant by "academy players mentioned" - if you meant players from the northern academy teams from the games played, well you are correct it's only 4. But if you want to consider any player available to be selected by northern academies, then you can add Jason Gilbee.

I guess Sydney doesn't have many who fall into that group because most of your kids would come from metropolitan Sydney and there's decent schools to go to without needing to board in Melbourne. But GWS has a lot of its kids in rural areas, and it's pretty common for families to send them to Melbourne boarding schools (often being closer than Sydney) for their education, and often the private schools will throw a scholarship their way if they're good at sports.

Thanks for clarifying Giant Strides. If Gillbee is available for academy selection then as far as I'm concerned he needs to be called out within the context of the academies. I've updated my post accordingly and feel free to point out or update anything I've missed.

Wouldn't want to be accused of us hiding them away somewhere;)

The reason why I used the word "apparently" in my initial comment is because his name doesn't actually appear in our Phase 2 squad list ... all we've got is the article on the announcement of the AFL Academy Squad that links him to GWS (which makes us think he's NGA rather than standard academy). So, I'll believe it if/when there's further confirmation ... but I can only go off the information available at this time.

Overall not a great weekend as all Academy teams without a win.
