On Kirk specifically, he's pretty much the exact type of player I fall for every draft, natural smarts and effective with every kick, he's certainly not as strong on the inside as Gulden but I don't see why Sydney couldn't find a spot for him on their list if it's just a size concern, he played a lot more forward last year so that could potentially be his role at the next level but his kicking going forward is just chefs kiss good.

Nicholls was a midfielder last year and a pretty good one at that, but I've liked him more out of the backline where he can get the ball in space more to cover up that decision making, but I don't think he looks overly draftable in either role at the moment
I was actually surprised to see that Kirk wasn’t selected for the RAMS side last year? I only took note of Nicholls as his name has been thrown around in Sydney AFL circles for a couple of years as the Academy’s next golden boy. He’s been all over their social media in the past so I took note of him hoping he’d be the next Campbell. It’s looking as though this year is going to be a bust as far as draft prospects go, for Swans anyway.

Kirk just didn't win enough of it as a forward last year, on quality of disposal he would've been in, but didn't hit the scoreboard heaps either so I can understand that as an omission, combined with the fact GWS beat Sydney by about 30 odd points on average across their games. Not sure either team will have an overly high representation in the Allies squad this year, Suns and Tassie have a lot of quality in comparison so will be interesting to see who gets the nod, at this stage I'd have thought only Angus Curry, Luke Lawrence, Harry Rowston and Nick Madden from the GIANTS, and Kirk, Cleary, Cabor from the Swans would be 'locks', could see some of the 19 year olds like Miller, Grace, Anderson, Endemann and Giacometti getting in but not sure if it'd be worthj putting that many 19-year-olds in that haven't necessarily added much since missing out last season

To be honest I never understand how selection for Rams/Allies works? I note that Sabolch was in Rams last year and has since been dropped by the Swans Academy.

Generally it's just a collaboration from the heads of Academies/ Tasmanian and NT talent managers, with input from AFL Recruiters as well. We see kids drop out a bit, it happens quite often in Queensland for example, and that can be due to a variety of reasons, with Sabolch in particular, without having any inside info I'd guess he just didn't want to do it, we rarely see Academy's make cuts from a players U17's to U18's year, so around that period is usually a player decision

Noice, two Lions father sons.

Are they both this years draft? Could be interesting if they both get bid early.
Bradshaw was in last year’s draft and missed. We retain the father son rights to him.

Bradshaw is probably a rookie selection at best.

I expect Ashcroft will be bid on in the top 5.

Fletcher is possibly a top 30 bid.

And Bradshaw late.

As long as we have the points to cover the Ashcroft bid and Fletcher is bid on in the second round, I believe we’ll be fine.

We can always carry a deficit in to next year’s draft on our second and later picks from the Fletcher bid.

After the 4 rounds of Northern Academy teams has ended we walk away with 3 victories in total. Good opportunity for the boys to get some exposure but I'm not sure many have really pushed their stocks up from last year. As it stands, Fletcher (Brisbane) remains the top prospect and probably the only one taken in the top 25, but Corbett, Eckersley, Harrington (Suns), Kirk (Swans), Lawrence, Rowston (GWS) are others that played for Academy sides that I think remain in the draft conversation

And then to cap it off, here's an early guess at what the Allies squad could look like for the Champs, asterisks denote bottom agers (2023 eligible). Didn't put any of the 19 year olds in the starting 18 but would think most would play a major part, don't take note of the 'EMG' here, best 18 is what I put most thought into and then just put who I expect to make it below. Also not certain whether Davey Jnr will be NT or Metro eligible, he'll walk into either side really

That sounds about right for Swans from what I've seen.

Round 4 has resulted in the academies finally getting some wins on the table. Hooray. Unfortunately, the Swans was not one of those teams.

Lions 9.10.63 def Eastern Ranges 9.9.63
Giants 14.7.91 def Bendigo Pioneers 13.11.89
Suns 10.9.69 def Western Jets 8.13.61
Greater Western 13.9.87 def Swans 7.14.56

A question re the GCS Academy access to NT players. If say a 20 yo has been passed up by GCS in previous drafts are they accessible to other clubs in the mid season draft.

Not a bye. the Northern Academy teams only play the first four NAB League games this year (or 3 of the 4 for Queensland sides). Will likely be an another academy series to help decide the Allies side, but mostly will be VFL/ Local for them now

Gah! Thanks PM. I need to make sure I get the entire fixture up somewhere next time for reference. I know we've got postponed March games on Sunday coming up but thought they'd flip back to more NAB games. Pity - the kids need more exposure and competition.

Good list but I’d have one of your boys you haven’t mentioned there and close to the top 2 - Ethan Grace . Think he’s mid season draft eligible too as wasn’t listed by giants early enough so falls into the pool

Anybody got the live stream link for todays academy games ?
Apologies I've been out for most of the day and didn't catch this one - all the links are on pge 2 of this thread when they were originally posted in March.
