In honor of Big Cry Baby, thought I would remind everyone:

1) record in playoffs against Cleveland 0-1 .000

2) record at home against Cleveland in playoffs 0-1 .000

Adios you Appalachian hilljack!

The hate is strong in this one padawon.

The Athletic's Tashan Reed notes that he expects the fifth-year option for Josh Jacobs to be "a tough choice," this offseason.

"Jacobs has been productive, but he's already shown wear and tear and plays a very replaceable position," Reed adds. The fifth-year option would be for $10.1 million. Jacobs hasn't played a full season in any of his three campaigns to date, and has been notably worse from a yards-per-attempt standpoint since his rookie season. The Raiders don't have a GM at this point, but it wouldn't necessarily be surprising if they decided to not invest more money in Jacobs.

NFL reels in a record $1.8 billion in sponsorship revenue

Posted by Mike Florio on January 27, 2022, 8:09 PM EST

Sponsorship deals literally generate money for nothing. Nothing beyond letting a name be tied to a product.

For the NFL, allowing others to invoke Big Shield has generated more money than ever. Via CNBC, the league brought in more than $1.8 billion in sponsorship revenue in the 2021 season.

The bulk of it comes from the ongoing spike in gambling money, with a goofy (but lucrative) “tri-exclusive” (i.e., not exclusive at all) partnership with DraftKings, FanDuel, and Caesers, along with so-called “secondary deals” with BetMGM, WynnBet, FoxBet, and PointsBet.

Most of the money comes from Microsoft, which pays roughly $100 million per year to push its non-iPad product. The gambling deals come in second, with the league’s beer-and-booze sponsorships landing third.

Still to come? Agreements with wine and champagne companies and the crypto pyramid schemers.

It currently works out to more than $56 million per team. Which is a nice chunk of change, for doing absolutely nothing at all.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said the Eagles "could look into" D.J. Chark this offseason "if they need a deep threat to complement DeVonta Smith."

Chark broke out in 2019 with 1,008 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 73 receptions but has since struggled in the horrendous Jacksonville offense. He missed most of the 2021 season following a fractured ankle he suffered in early October. Chark, 25, an unrestricted free agent, should see significant free agency interest from teams offering short-term prove-it deals to the big wideout. Chark would offer almost no fantasy appeal in the extremely run-heavy Eagles offense.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said Allen Robinson would be "a good fit" for the Colts.

Robinson, 29, coming off a terribly disappointing 2021 with the Bears, is unlikely to re-sign with Chicago and could make a sensible addition to a Colts offense without a true No. 2 receiver behind Michael Pittman. An AFC coach told Fowler that Robinson still has some appeal as a reliable pass catcher, though he lacks top-end separation ability. "He is great at contested catches, but there's a reason why he has to make [them]. He has some trouble separating," the anonymous coach said. Robinson's fantasy appeal in Indianapolis would be limited with the Colts centering their offense around Jonathan Taylor and Pittman headed into 2022 as the team's clearcut WR1. Catching passes from Carson Wentz would be something short of ideal too.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said "it wouldn't shock" him if the Chiefs pursued Odell Beckham in free agency this offseason.

Fowler said Beckham returning to the "cash-strapped Rams appears difficult" since the team has committed so much money to Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp for the foreseeable future. That could leave Beckham -- after restarting his fledgling career in LA -- to seek a contender this offseason. "Most agree Beckham fits better on a contender with a strong culture," Fowler said. "Going to the Jacksonville Jaguars or Chicago Bears for the biggest check could backfire." Kansas City expressed interest in OBJ in 2021 and could woo him as a much-needed third option in their highly-concentrated passing offense.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Bucs have "higher interest" in re-signing Chris Godwin this offseason.

The team doesn't seem spooked by Godwin's late-season ACL tear, as many players who suffer ACL injuries are able to return for the start of the next season. Fowler said Godwin -- who played in 2021 on the franchise tag -- likely won't be slapped with the tag in 2022 following the December knee injury. Though Godwin's fantasy value would largely hinge on whether Tom Brady returns to Tampa, it's worth noting Godwin was an elite fantasy option with Jameis Winston before the Brady era. Fowler mentioned the Patriots and Dolphins as potential free agency suitors for Godwin. Jaylen Waddle paired with Godwin would make for an intriguing receiver duo that could elevate Tua Tagovailoa as a fantasy option if he remains Miami's starting quarterback.

Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline reports Aaron Rodgers has “told people in confidence” he wants free agents Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling wherever he plays next season.

The report comes after Rodgers said “everything’s on the table” when talking about his future on the Pat McAfee Show. Rodgers had the Packers void the final year of his contract (2023) as part of last season's holdout and there’s rumors the Broncos hiring of Nathaniel Hackett as their head coach was made as a play to land the soon to be MVP. The Packers’ front office missteps — from drafting Jordan Love to balking at Rodgers and Adams extensions — are the driving force behind Rodgers wanting out. An NFC Divisional run and second consecutive MVP increases his chances of staying, but with a negative cap situation and GM Brian Gutekunst returning, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if 2021 ends up as Rodgers’s last season in Green Bay.

The dude has lost the plot.

Packers WR Davante Adams is “looking for a contract near $30 million per year.”

It was already reported Adams wants to be the league’s highest paid receiver. The $30 million average per year would place Adams ahead of the DeAndre Hopkins ($27M APR) and Julio Jones ($22M APR) deals. The Packers, who are $40 million over the salary cap, aren’t expected to offer more than $25 million annually, making a long-term deal unlikely this offseason. With Aaron Rodgers signed through 2022, Green Bay’s most cost-effective way of keeping its offense together is to franchise Adams, which would count just $22 million against the cap.

Salary caps are irrelevant according to Aaron, should be able to fit both he and Davante in the same team easy peasy.

Report: Tom Brady retirement announcement likely coming soon

Posted by Mike Florio on January 29, 2022, 7:25 AM EST

Logic and common sense point to Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady retiring. A new report indicates that the logical, commonsensical decision will be announced soon.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, citing “several sources who are within Brady’s inner circle,” explains that these sources anticipate Brady “most likely will reveal his future plans in the coming days.”

As one unnamed source explained it to La Canfora, Brady wants to give the Buccaneers a full opportunity to make post-Brady plans. Brady also doesn’t want to upstage the playoffs, as the Super Bowl teams prepare to become locked in.

La Canfora writes that there is “growing anticipation” that the official announcement is coming this week.

The possibility of a sudden Brady retirement sprang up out of nowhere in the days preceding the playoff loss to the Rams. But few seemed stunned by Brady’s abrupt reversal; he’d said on multiple occasions that he’ll play through the 2022 season and then decide whether to stick around for a year or two after that.

Just before the 2021 season began, Brady said, “Hopefully, I’ll be here a long time. For many years.”

Retirement makes sense given that Brady recently confirmed longstanding beliefs that he doesn’t want a farewell tour. If he plays in 2022, he’d get one — whether he likes it or not. Indeed, it now seems that years of saying that he’ll play through the age of 45 were aimed at least in part at preventing a farewell tour from ever happening, with Brady knowing his last season would come before 2022.

Will be amazed still, Brady not wanting a farewell tour while making doco's on every moment of his career would be one of the strangest things ive ever seen. If he retires id guess it more a case of Giselle putting her foot down, cause if it was up to Tom I firmly believe he'd want one. He lives for legend status and the praise, its part of what makes him so good and drives him.

Gisele and him will have an argument one night....next day, Brady announces he's coming back mid-season to a contender to win one more.

Tom will do as he is told, Gisele holds the whip.

As TB once said to New England beat writers when he commented , on the status of his and Gisele's relationship.

When he told them....... and said, they should remember

" I am not the Primary Income Earner in this family."

Would be sort of funny ............ if it wasn't for the fact ............that the statements actually true.

It's not really a marriage it was always more like a corporate merger.

Speaking of things: Money & Pretty Women ......and by extension..... Good God that heady, euphoric and sometimes dangerous mix of both.

That reminds me of a couple of " pearls" of wisdom that my Old Man managed to share with me, before he departed these mortal shores:

Number 1. A very important concept that I needed to understand, if I ever wanted to become successful in life and become rich.

Where ever there is money, there will always be plenty of tidy pussy & where ever there is a gathering of tidy pussy, you will always find money close by.
Don't marry for money, marry for love..... but don't love where there ain't money.

Number 2. A Cautionary piece of advise.

Be very careful as the downfall of many a great man, is the lethal combination of, fast women and slow horses.

Apologies I digress. ;)

Can understand why women (not all but the vast majority, like 95%) think like that....where money trumps....because humans are still bound by instinct. The woman, to secure her future and her children's well-being = money. A broke guy is not gonna cut it...for a reasonably decent woman. You will always get women who marry for love, despite the man's lack of wealth...and either, stick with him true despite no wealth, or, push and inspire and encourage (and nag) him into being better, better job, or work harder, to bring money in....might not be rich man's money, but as long as her future is secured and her children's well-being is serviced, guy making reasonable enough of money to live a decent average life....women will accept that.

Of course other things may play a part....like being tall, strong, handsome, well-connected or well-known.

It's a complicated mix that can't be properly encapsulated in a short post. And by all means, I do not belittle women for having their instincts, the list of haves for a man, a man to marry, and often that is passed down from grandmother to mother and mother to daughter.

Also, there's a different set of factors working for a man to date, and a man to love and marry. As well as different factors for a teenaged woman, a 20-something, 30-something woman. Different stages of development. Teenaged/20's....fun, experience, fantasies, superficial crushes, etc. And of course, there is also women (and men) who are less attractive and as they get to that age, 25-28, will settle for the "best they can get".

For men....we always want a slutty version of our mothers. Someone who will nurture the house/children, cook, clean, etc. Not always of course. Men too over the years have changed with the times, but as always, the instincts are always there too.

$30 mil a year for any position that isn't qb is just stupid.

Thats what 40 mil for Rodgers, 30 mil for Adams, plus whatever MVS costs that be easy to fit under a cap. Can any team do it or want to do it.

It's impossible. Unless a team thinks they can carry those two and scythe away at the rest of their roster, trade away good players for picks, cheap vets and rookie contracts across the board. And that would be a bad move.

More likely Adams ends up at Las Vegas to reunite with Carr say. And Rodgers at Broncos.
