Ginbey, Weddle, Magor, and Phillips is an impressive haul for the Dogs. We've desperately needed a key defender for years, and the last three drafts we've all been tearing our hair out at the fact that we haven't got one. Getting two, plus one of my favourite players in the pool in Ginbey, would set us up.

And we're done!

Good effort to knock it out if the way in 5 days, if all list managers could get in their remaining write ups and a little summary over the weekend that'd be neat as

Please for the love of God someone else run this next year

Wouldn't want to swap you out now when you're doing such a good job 🤗

I made this for the mid-season one and it applies again here

Pick 17 - Sydney - Riak Andrew
192cm - Tall Utility

Andrew missed this year because of a meniscus injury and even without he may not have featured much due to being so raw but make no doubt about it this kid is a special talent. The younger brother of Mac Andrew, Riak was 192cm in March of this year and could grow even more and he shares the same elite athleticism to his brother with an insane leap and perhaps even quicker than his brother. A goal he kicked in a practise match this year was something special and although he is raw and will be inconsistent his talent and upside is undeniable and I’m going early but reckon this will be a bargain when we look at 2023 at this time of year.

Players considered: Ben Hill/Will Brown
Benny Hill What GIF

I can foresee Benny Hill sending Brian Taylor into raptures. God help us

Adelaide 2022 National Draft Recap

Pick 29 Max Michalanney (matched bid)
Pick 55 Jonti Schuback
Pick 61 Will Verrall

It can be tough to get too excited about a draft when you don't have an early selection, but I think I've been able to get guys that have a genuine chance of nailing down a role at AFL level. Michalanney has the scope to be one of those really unheralded guys down back that does everything pretty well, but nothing tremendously outstanding that would elevate him to that star level. Schuback has the tools with line-breaking speed and scope to be a handy user at AFL level. Role and opportunity will be critical for his development. I really hope wherever he lands, he's used as a rebounder and overlap runner across half back in the 2's and given the best opportunity to make it in that role. I think he has Adam Saad level potential if developed in that capacity. Verrall is a minimum four year investment, as are most talls, but with his athleticism and follow up ability, I believe he's got the tools to be a number 1 ruck at AFL level. He's not the traditional ruckman that the Crows tend to run with (ie Sauce, ROB, Strachan etc) but one that can be a real POD at stoppage. There's probably no stars in this group, but a couple of guys who have a chance at being above average role players.

Melbourne 2022 National Draft Recap

Pick 14 Matthew Jefferson
Pick 37 Nick Sadler
Pick 75 Harry Cole

Jefferson has been heavily linked with the Dees in a lot of recent phantom's and draft chatter. I think the match makes sense given Melbourne don't have a lot of certainty at that end of the ground. That being said, I really didn't want to leave Jedd Busslinger on the board and if I'd had literally any other team, I would've taken him. I wouldn't have been able to pass on Elijah Hewett either and although the fit for him is probably more questionable than with Jefferson, I just love his talent and would've had to take him. Nick Sadler isn't a real sexy pick, but he has speed and class and the versatility to fill a number of roles at the next level. Melbourne do a great job of developing these types of guys and I could easily see him playing a role for this team over the next few years. I think his ceiling is a player in that 16-22 range on a list, but I'm not upset with that at Pick 37. Harry Cole is a favourite of mine and is a worthy swing at Pick 75. He's a medium forward type that has the talent and class to be an impact player at AFL level. The question mark is application and whether he can be put in a position to showcase his talent and hide some of his flaws. I think Melbourne are as well-positioned as any club to do that.

RICHMOND TIGERS NATIONAL BIG FOOTY DRAFT RECAP

PICK 51 - Phoenix Foster - Fwd / Ruck assist
PICK 59 - Harvey Gallagher - Def / wing
PICK 74 - Luke Teal - Def

Phoenix would be my pick of the talls left in the draft at this late stage, as his agility and athleticism outshines the others IMO. Very strong hands when contested marking and marking around the ground but also has a very good set shot routine and can kick bags of goals. Good when assisting in the ruck but that cold improve, and would with a few preseasons and tutelage from the big Nank and Soldo. He is good with his hands gets clearances and tackles, has a little bit of mongrel in him.

Slim pickings in the real draft but stoked that Harvey Gallagher and Luke Teal dropped our way late here in the big footy draft.

Rioli and Short can take Gallagher under their wing and he would be a healthy addition to the defensive unit with his run and gun game, taking metres and using his foot skills whilst staying in the chain of play to become a dangerously attacking, goal scoring option who is also a very dependable lock down defender and interceptor using his ball/play reading skills.

Luke Teal is a very talented footballer who had his injuries this year, he has skill, neat hand and foot skills but also a very calm composed head in the contest and away from the contest, good 1 v 1 defensive skills that can only get better with strength training and plays a Vlaustin type role which will come in handy in the next few years, also adding strength to the defensive unit.

In the real draft Richmond will only take 2 so it will be different to here, but we all know that they are after a tall and then best available talent, hopefully in an area of need.

Hawthorn 2022 recap

Pick 7 - Cam Mackenzie - mid
Pick 26 - Charlie Clarke - forw/mid
Pick 40 - Anthony Munkara - med forw
Pick 46 - Brandon Leary - sml forw
Pick 48 - Jake Walker - mid
Pick 50 - Cooper Vickery - hbf
Pick 62 - Jerome Lawrence - kpf

In the real thing I think we're taking 4 or 5 picks, I think Lawrence might get rookie and potentially Josh Bennetts from Eastern another NGA we might pick up?

I think Mackenzie gives us something different for our midfield, good inside and outside game, performs in big games and has a good head on his shoulders under pressure, Clarke gives us a goal kicking small forward with good instincts in the forward line, a bit of toughness and midfield rotation, Munkara could be a star if he has the right attitude, he glides across the ground and his footy iq is impressive, he just knows where everyone is spatially and works through crowds with ease, his goal sense is also impressive, I'm hoping we get him in the real thing, Leary is a little gem, super quick, agile and dangerous goal kicker, was injured for 2 Allies games, but the 2 he played in he was influential, his Tassie season was also impressive with the Tasmanians finishing top 4, Jake Walker I think is a worthy late Pick, tough inside mid who showed some real class for SA at times in the champs, also won a premiership with glenlg u18s and could fit a system at the next level potentially, then I secured Vickery and Lawrence, both we might take late or as rookies? Vickery had some impressive games and might go in the ND, whereas Lawrence showed a bit of talent reminding me of Shoenmakers as a forward and he was a good squad player.

Tough one this. There's really two options for my pick here. One makes perfect sense from a needs basis. The other i've loved watching play for 2 1/2 years and would have jumped at the start of the year to pick him up. Genuine 50/50 call. "Gil, more time thanks" Both doubtful they will be there with our next pick.

Pick 36 - Port Adelaide

Kobe Ryan - West Adelaide - Midfielder

183cm / 73kg

Kobe is a ball magnet midfielder who excels inside the contest but has the running power to spread and find plenty of the ball outside as well. Whilst rather slender in frame, it has proven really to be no barrier to his ability to win the football time and time again other the last few seasons. Under 18s, reserves, bottom age, top age, he's consistently shown his desire to win obscene amounts of the football and has delivered one of the most consistent back catalogues of football of any player in this draft pool.

Whilst his kicking isn't elite, his running power, his inside work, his ability to read the play and get first hands on the ball time and time again, is elite. He's regularly found outside kicking inside 50 and is just as likely to be found wide in defense putting his hand up for the clearance kick.

His frame is something that will need to be worked on. If he can improve his kicking by 5% he will be a very handy player. Whilst he reminds me most of someone like Tom Mitchell in the way he plays, I can see him starting on a wing with short stints in the midfield, before becoming a full time mid in year 3.

Now to hope my other option falls.
Now the draft is done who was the other option at 33 you spoke of?

Pretty happy with this outcome, apart from I'm alittle meh on MacKenzie, beautiful kick on him and he accumulates, but nothing else really exciting about him. I'd more likely take Jhye Clark.

I'll do it, provided I can pick for a team.

Pick 44: Sam Gilbey

188cm 71kg

Strengths: Aggressive decision making, kicking, intercept marking, rebound from defence

Issues / areas to work on: Endurance, strength.

Reasoning: I think eDPS said it, this is absurd value for a pick 44, and surely would have come into consideration from the late teens onwards for a number of mock drafters. The days of jokes about drafting another HBF are over, with many team's strategies relying heavily on being able to move the ball very effectively from defence to attack swifty and efficiently and it is likely Sam can definitely bring that.

To hear Sam speak and watch a bit of his kicking action:

TDS7 your up.

Not sure if the Suns have the list spots to use 4 picks.

How many spots have they got open?

I like your selections Davo-27 given the restrictions created by the rules of this phantom Draft. We all know that the Hawks will be offloading most of their picks 41, 48, 50, 52 and 65 to either Brisbane or Essendon for a higher pick and later picks. But hey, you worked well with what you had. 👍

Mark McKenzie and Sam Mitchell are building a midfield in which Cam McKenzie will fit perfectly. Others on Hawks BigFooty would have you select Jhye Clark who we all know will be good, but I am with you on the McKenzie selection.

Charlie Clarke is a great get. I’d be very, very happy with him at pick 26.

Munkara could be anything or nothing. Definitely worth the bet on talent if he will be a happy hardworking Hawk. The fist pump is fun but that situation did not work out for any party and so I’d hate to recreate that at the Hawks.

Brandon Leary is the controversial choice for me. Seem like a lose / lose situation for the Hawks. If we take him and he is “no buena” then we lose but if he is “muy buena” then, after we develop him, Tassie take him for little recompense (the AFL have proven to take but not give when new clubs are created) and the Hawks lose. It is a crappy situation for Leary! which has been created by the AFL.

Jake Walker… a hard worker... at the least he will make the most of his chance.

Vickory and Lawrence are speculative picks and only likely rookies but I understand that this phantom’s rules made you take them in the draft.

Well done Davo-27.

Afl dot com did a nice little article on Leary, he could be a nice late pick up, i always back our culture over possible leavers.
