Adelaide 2022 National Draft Recap

Pick 29 Max Michalanney (matched bid)
Pick 55 Jonti Schuback
Pick 61 Will Verrall

It can be tough to get too excited about a draft when you don't have an early selection, but I think I've been able to get guys that have a genuine chance of nailing down a role at AFL level. Michalanney has the scope to be one of those really unheralded guys down back that does everything pretty well, but nothing tremendously outstanding that would elevate him to that star level. Schuback has the tools with line-breaking speed and scope to be a handy user at AFL level. Role and opportunity will be critical for his development. I really hope wherever he lands, he's used as a rebounder and overlap runner across half back in the 2's and given the best opportunity to make it in that role. I think he has Adam Saad level potential if developed in that capacity. Verrall is a minimum four year investment, as are most talls, but with his athleticism and follow up ability, I believe he's got the tools to be a number 1 ruck at AFL level. He's not the traditional ruckman that the Crows tend to run with (ie Sauce, ROB, Strachan etc) but one that can be a real POD at stoppage. There's probably no stars in this group, but a couple of guys who have a chance at being above average role players.
Verrall, has a terrific running vertical jump, so that should make up, for being a tad undersized in the ruck.

RICHMOND TIGERS NATIONAL BIG FOOTY DRAFT RECAP

PICK 51 - Phoenix Foster - Fwd / Ruck assist
PICK 59 - Harvey Gallagher - Def / wing
PICK 74 - Luke Teal - Def

Phoenix would be my pick of the talls left in the draft at this late stage, as his agility and athleticism outshines the others IMO. Very strong hands when contested marking and marking around the ground but also has a very good set shot routine and can kick bags of goals. Good when assisting in the ruck but that cold improve, and would with a few preseasons and tutelage from the big Nank and Soldo. He is good with his hands gets clearances and tackles, has a little bit of mongrel in him.

Slim pickings in the real draft but stoked that Harvey Gallagher and Luke Teal dropped our way late here in the big footy draft.

Rioli and Short can take Gallagher under their wing and he would be a healthy addition to the defensive unit with his run and gun game, taking metres and using his foot skills whilst staying in the chain of play to become a dangerously attacking, goal scoring option who is also a very dependable lock down defender and interceptor using his ball/play reading skills.

Luke Teal is a very talented footballer who had his injuries this year, he has skill, neat hand and foot skills but also a very calm composed head in the contest and away from the contest, good 1 v 1 defensive skills that can only get better with strength training and plays a Vlaustin type role which will come in handy in the next few years, also adding strength to the defensive unit.

In the real draft Richmond will only take 2 so it will be different to here, but we all know that they are after a tall and then best available talent, hopefully in an area of need.

Smythe
Watched the highlights, of Phoenix Foster. Was impressed with his kicking, strong & brave marking & good mobility for his size.

Hawthorn
Pick 40
Anthony Munkara
188cm 77kg
West Adel/Tiwi/Westminster

Just in time to steal an absolute beauty, tall, quick, agile, goal sense, if we had more exposure he would be in top 20 contention imo, Essendon NGA but in the open pool inside the top 40, moves like Cyril Rioli, even when he takes difficult shots or the ball falls short, it's nearly always online, if he works out could be a huge steal here, kicked 6 goals in 2 sanfl u18s games, looked the best forward and super impressive in the AFL Academy, kicking an opportunist goal and then throwing off a tackler like it was nothing, had a poor champs game where in the first half he looked disinterested and tried getting into a fight on field almost, came around in the 2nd half to contribute a little then disappeared for a bit and returned to school footy for Westminster where he kicked a 9 goal haul, highly talented, highly athletic goal scoring champ.

eDPS You're up

I really hope your club aborts this decision and let's him play alongside Walla and Davey boys.

And when combined with adding Izak Rankine via trade, it represents a promising group of additions to the side (should it play out anything like that of course)
