He barely had a preseason after having OP for most of it. That's a pretty decent excuse most of the time, especially if the main criticisms are fitness based like lack of workrate and not getting to enough contests.

He's also battled an ongoing ankle injury and has just gotten over glandular fever whereby he missed a heap of work. Let's see how he is in April '23

I hope they give Kuek another year. has the athletic traits.

With the exodus looming we are looking at 6 leaving inc Mundy with perhaps LJ, Ronnie and Sharp coming in. That leaves 3 list spots available even before delistings.

Hope the delistings are kept to minimum this year

Many forget it has been a long season for some of these kids and they have mentally checked out a little.
Claremont chipped the ball around well and many of the Peel based guys do not have the confidence or class to do this, so kick long to a pack continually - too many passengers here - You need 22 good players in finals. Peel does not have this.
Raz was good in the clinches and has a good eye for a goal, will develop nicely with good coaching. Johnno was ok against far stronger bodies.Worner was clever releasing players continually with handballs just gets to the right positions and gives off first option.
Treacy and other forwards just did not get a fair bite at it - poor kicking and not enough entries they were starved of opportunities.

Have you played footy before? No footy players check out during finals, especially young proffesional athletes.

Peel really got smashed in the contest at the ball ups and when there was a loose ball to be won around the ground. When Peel got first hands on the ball they couldn't handle Claremont's pressure to get it outside and when Claremont won it they got it out to a free man way too easily.

Also five changes from last weeks winning side is too many, and apart from the changes due to the Fremantle listed players going out - they also lost a bit without the skill of Thorne and T. Bennell and some of the ins that had last played in the WAFL reserves a fortnight ago weren't up for the leap in standard.

Feel for the forwards as they were starved - even the consistently good Bell hardly touched it until they put him on the ball in the 3rd quarter.

Was impressed by Erasmus though I think he had a niggling calf injury. Injury free, he's one that can start in the AFL next year.

Crowden also slowed down by that early corky but made a good 4 quarter contribution. Wilson still good enough. Worner's decision making is quick - marred by a couple of kicks were overhit but usually when he got it he put another Peel player in a better position. Meek and Hamling were in battles where you could argue their opponents had their moments.

Everyone else seemed below par. Henry and Hughes gave Peel nothing on the wings for most of the match until they eventually made some changes there. Henry's contest shown up and he appears too light even against WAFL opponents but doesn't use his body well. Hughes more suited to the backline. Western starved of opportunities. Johnson did a few skilful things but didn't show the poise from earlier games with Claremont players closing down his time and space. Blakely beaten and had little influence.

What happened to Treacy? 4 touches isn't a lot

Too short , too slow and not much chop in body on body contests

Chases hard but never catches anyone which leaves him out of position and out of gas a lot

Chris Mayne mk2

Give him a go down back to see if he does better with the ball in front of him

Jack Buller at least looks like he could take a contested grab in the AFL , very dubious about Treacy doing that

Maybe as a McStay / Mioceck workhorse type with another 3 or 4 preseasons

Shows a bit as a back up ruck but again his height is an issue

Played plenty of football over the years. Most of these players are aspiring to play for Freo not Peel.
How they play for peel directly affects their chances of playing for freo. The only type of player who could possibly be checked out would be a senior guy like Hamling who is considering retirement. The idea that a young hungry teenager wouldn't be fired up for this final because they are on an afl list is madness. If that's the case then there's something seriously wrong.

We’ll find out what Henry is made of in the off season. You need players of strong character to play AFL footy.
If he’s got the mentality required, he will knuckle down and improve, and stop talking to his manager.
If he doesn’t then he’s a bust.
This is fair call. It’s up to Henry and he definitely needs a big pre-season.

He actually has good footskills but the skills turned to poo the last two weeks. Someone said he had tonsillitis/illness last week. If that was the case not sure why he played last week - easily the worst he played all year. Still again today seemed to lack his usual energy.

My biggest concern with Henry is the lack of depth in his kicking.

I understand your sentiment and ideal but realistically I think my point was more than proven today when u look at that performance. They were simply were not overly invested in going another 1 - 2 weeks. However there was still a handful that were checked in just not as a team.

Agree. I rolled my eyes when Schofield in the commentary suggested Henry to half back. It’s why, if he’s going to make it, he has to play at half forward. He is Mundy-esque hitting up a short lead. From a mark 70m from goal, there’s probably nobody on our list better equipped to kick it inside 50. But at half back he’s never going to be able to take the 50m pass to half-forward, it’s always a short switch to the middle or hit up lead on the wing.

There is no power in his kicks I don’t believe he can kick the ball 40m.
The distance is not that easy to improve via coaching but the power and trajectory of his disposal by foot should be easily improved with a good AFL coach, and we have plenty down at Cockburn.
If you look at thre way players like Jack Crisp are able to kick the ball with genuine power i50 while running at full tilt, this is what we need to see from Henry. Kiddy coleman of brisbane is another he could learn a lot from.

Liam is heading towards bust material..just gets confused when he gets space, doesn't run to the contest..
Needs a massive pre season or it will all be over in 12 months.

Throughout the year even in the last regular season games hit up forwards with some very nice passes.

I remember one against Swans in the last regular season game he was on the boundary and spotted a player (Colyer from memory) about 50 metres away on other side of the centre square wing. Perfect kick which Colyer ran on and was able to hit up Tabs from memory.

The past two weeks the grounds haven’t suited our Wingers. Henry was playing on Declan Mountford who managed 14 possessions as compared to Henry’s 13. Henry got moved forward late in the third for the reminder of the game and the ball didn’t get forward much but his second efforts weren’t great.

HFF and Wing is his go. He needs a big pre-season full stop. He can battle out with Jeremy Sharp. I’d expect Worner to put pressure on them as well.

Hughes was quite good last week but worst of all Wingers from both teams today.
