Thoughts,

Dumping mid premos to fit the rooks in my team.
Tim English looked rock solid the other night, i must have him.
Defender rooks look thin with three decent possibles that i can see, being Mccartin, Kemp and maybe Wanganeen/Milera if picked so stacking the back six with known talent.

Big watch on Brodie, Horne/francis and Stephens today.

Don't know if Ratten concurs but i see Owens playing round one after the two injuries last night.

I don't think you can compete early without 3 mid premos personally. The likes of Oliver, Steel, Miller, Bont, Mitchell, Neale are all potential 120+ early on, not all will but there will be lots of teams with the right combo of 4 or so of them and they'll be churning out big numbers. Not a bad side overall, just think it's one step too extreme in the mids. If you could find a way to make Caldwell or JHF a mid premo, you'd give yourself a stronger chance.

My instinct is to say cull Brodie and Hewett down, yes you need to find rookies in place but while Hewett has some strong arguments for, I don't think Brodie quite cuts it yet.

Caldwell is staying but i could change Crisp to Sicily and Hewitt to WM and then upgrade either Brodie or JHF to Neale. How confident are you that Neale goes 110+?

Very.

5 years in a row, well technically one was 109, and that included seasons of 121 and 134. And then 1 injury affected season.

Thing with Neale is he's not a Mr Consistent like Jack Macrae necessarily, his peaks are higher and he scores circa 80s. When he's priced at a 110-130 average I wouldn't pick him in the hope of getting him after a couple of 80s, but at 99, without fact checking myself, I'd say he has the most or close to most 140s+ out of any current mid. He could easily be unachievable to get in pretty quickly imo.

I think 110 is his floor, mainly scored when he was 2nd banana behind Fyfe, and I think 120 is his peak as the Lions do have a good spread in the midfield.

Why is 2022 going to be like 2017-2020 and not 2021?

Injury affected pre season in 2021, and played obviously hampered early on. Run of luck continued into the season even missing a game through illness the week after he played 75%ish game time (v Hawthorn, well down on his normal game time of 88% or so) and he still averaged 105 post bye, despite these factors.

Injury free he's able to score at will and most of the time teams let him accumulate, Geelong probably the main side that put a hard tag on him, and I'd be confident he'd break most of them when fit.

You make a compelling case HT, thus i am sold!

Changed my structure from 4/5/1/1 to 4/4/1/2. Hard not seeing 5 in the mids. I'm also thinking uf upgrading Sic to Rich.

Rich has taken 100% of the kick ins when he's on the ground. I also like Heeney if he plays in the middle today.

Thoughts anyone?

Comben not even emergency for North, Curtis an emergency.

Hard to read into it, as North have gone for Larkey as the only tall up forward, with a Goldstein/Xerri ruck combo - no Comben, Coleman-Jones (knee injury, severity not reported) and also McKay not playing so Josh Walker is named down back when he may be a swingman.

Comben probably a very last choice rookie as I'd expect him to do well to average more than 30, but I expect him to be close to the team, if not named, come round 1. Just a matter of whether we get other rookies to avoid a raw KF as a warm body at F8.

Personally think likely to have more structure if it's a Larkey/Comben duo up forward, Xerri 3rd tall and 2nd ruck.

Comben also had food poisoning during the week and conditions are wet so makes sense to leave him out today.

I'm making contingency teams.

My base team 3/5/2/3 structure

No def rooks 4/5/2/2

No forwards 3/5/2/2 (3 midpricers forward)

Oh shit we're gone 4/4/2/2 (3 midpricers forward) (another in mids)

I probably just need 1 or 2 more rooks for my base team. A lot of the change in teams is dropping my M4 and D2 to much cheaper options, generating around 150k.

Also formulating a disaster team just in case we're left with only the realy expensive mid rooks and nothing else.
There isn’t a single starting mid rook under 130K is there? Weird start to the season.

Hawks MacDonald a decent shout

Norf Goater might be a chance as well, hopefully does well today

I reckon $168k Stephens at M9 might be required

Yep forgot him (McDonald), got him parked on the bench atm. Looked good although not completely locked in r1. Cant see Goater starting, really really hope I’m wrong…for all of us!
