Maybe because the people here are paying closer attention than the randoms at the ground and your mates?

Yes, he's still a work in progress, but if you can't see value in his ability to cover the ground at speed and his ability to hit flat passes up to 50m, then I'm not sure what it is you expect? Even the criticisms of his attack on the ball/man have dried up this season, because all it took was a bit of confidence for him to improve that as well. Have even seen him starting to welcome contact in order to give off to a loose teammate in the last couple of weeks. Literally the only flaw at the moment is consistency - not really a surprise given he was playing Mickey Mouse Covid-reserves football most of the last two seasons.
I'm very happy with Setters and LOB. Both can improve further but defending their wings well, impacting contests well. Have taken strides this year.

Nuffies at the ground tend to just pile on whipping bois no matter what they're doing.

Potentially, but I don't think it's going to be an automatic swap in like some people think.

Stock is going to have to earn it. I don't really think Newman has put a foot wrong this year....by my recollection he's played 3 solid games.

No small forwards have kicked a bag on us and his kicking has been fine.

The fact that both stayed in the team with Cerra coming in and we chose to leave Martin as sub says a fair bit about how our coaches think LOB and Setters are doing in their roles.

Both seem to be playing well according to the role they are instructed to play.

They clearly see the growth over the first few games and they're not losing their position. Probably beat their opponents each week so far.

Huge to have two competent wings with obvious options for Walsh and Cerra to play there too.

In: Saad, McDonald, Dow, Motlop
Out: Boyd, TDK, LOB, Fisher

Bit ruthless with the outs, but we've gotta be if we're fair dinkum.
I'd keep TDK in. He did some important stuff but needs to impose himself on the game more.

Fisher and Boyd out for Motlop and Saad

Setterfield was really good yesterday, he's been the surprise packet of the year IMO.

I'm excited to finally see Walsh vs Rowell for real.

Been waiting for years and it admittedly has lost some sparkle. It was exciting potentially in Rowells first year as it was Walsh's second and the battle of the no.1s.. but alas it didn't happen then injuries stopped it. I know they played last yr but Rowell really never got fully fit and it wasn't he matchup as it should be.

Finally seeing the 2 great instant impact no.1s going head to head fit and firing will be great.

The GC is humid and there are showers about almost daily at the moment. Chances are even if it's not raining there may be a shower or 2, even without that it will be humid and beyond that the extra sweat from the warmth makes the ball slicker. It will feel like a wetter game than usual.

We may want to go slightly shorter as a result. I wouldn't be surprised to see TDK out, though I'm not sure I support it.

Yep. Has become extremely reliable as a defensive winger. Playing within his strengths as well and surprisingly covers the ground very well - either he had zero fitness or endurance last year or he’s found a reason to care.

TBH, I think the complete opposite is more likely true.

Feel like we've always been a good wet weather side. Pittonet, Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett would be right at home. Fisher, Durdin and Owies could run amok. Backline looking organised, so hopefully they'd be able to cover the chaos entries their way too. Repeat stoppages likely to work in the favour of our mature mid bodies.

Wet weather wouldn't help Fishers fumblitis, even Owies isn't 1 touch.

But on the whole I agree with your point, we do seem to be good at wet weather games. Iirc in wet weather games isn't Kennedy an absolute beast? Not sure if I'm making that up but I feel like that's a trend.

Well done on not responding to the actual comments about LOB...lends great credence to you belief that people in the stands are paying closer attention to a given player than people who spend half their free time discussing the game when they should be working ;)

With all due respect, I've spent enough time on here to know that it's as much a social forum as a forum for genuine footy analysis, which is fine. On top of that, it is plainly obvious that for many, the analysis of AFL extends as far as Carlton, and that is also fine, but I consider the limitations regarding analysis and views on account of these factors.

Yep, because the randoms at the game don't get distracted by hot dogs, screaming kids and that dude three rows forward with a massive plumbers crack, nor do your mates ever discuss anything other than football...

Where are you even going with this?

You claimed that people here see something in LOB that some randoms and a few of your mates don't, that he's not an AFL grade player and doesn't offer much, and despite being afforded some pretty clear indication that he has AFL qualities you just flatly refuse to respond to those?

Less that they're ultra clean in the wet and more that their fumbles are going to be balanced out by opposition fumbles too :p

More opportunities at ground level would be good for Owies and Durdin, and Fisher in particular has a knack for paddling the ball to advantage and gaining ground at the same time, which I think would be par for the course on a slippery deck.

SPS had a few great games in the wet, not sure about Kennedy as we really just haven't seen enough of him at the top level in the midfield. VFL viewers may have some more insight into how he performed in wet conditions at that level?

IMO the we should be looking to get Dow in asap - the new approach to clearances where we use multiple handballs to release player rather than dump kicks plays to Dow’s strengths and he could potentially be very very damaging from centre clearances (much more so than VFL level)

The new approach to defense also requires the mids to get back in numbers and help out - something Dow certainly needs to improve on.

No rush, he's not getting traded in Round 6. Let him dominate the ressies for a while so the message about defensive workrate can really sink in.
