I highly doubt this is a stat kept by anyone, but would there be anyone with a better possession-per-minutes played ratio in the AFL than Kennedy right now?

My goodness 30 possessions in only 66% game time is ridiculous!

But this is completely irrelevant - if Kennedy spent more time on ground - let’s say 85% - his disposal count would probably be lower that it is now because he wouldn’t have the stamina to go at it 100% of the time. I think it’s because he is being managed on the bench that allows him to attack each contest as if it’s his last and is what is making Kennedy 2022 spectacular. So while it’s nice to point out that Kennedy is doing more with less - it’s also intentional.

Some guys just maybe don't have the tank - or at least need regular rests to be able to go their hardest when on-field. Another example is young Will Brodie over in Freo, who is not a dissimilar player to Kennedy and getting big stats numbers in low TOG.

Kennedy's ascension to full blown, proper AFL midfield is massive for us, though. Having more guys who can get big numbers in the midfield, be the prime mover on their day, is so key to being successful at the pointy end of the ladder and season. Kennedy will never be the opposition's top priority or focus against the Blues, but that gives him the opportunity to be the one doing the damage whilst they're hanging off Cripps or chasing Walshy around.

Well, yeah...

I think you've taken my post the wrong way mate. I didn't suggest we should be giving him more playtime. It's just a cool stat to top the league in and it indicates what you just said. His impact per minute is excellent, amongst the best in the league.

Dow in, Walsh to wing, LOB out?

He was too shaky again today imo and those fumbles are costing us...

He wasn't alone, Boyd too was pretty bad at times....

Same with Williams... had an overall decent game but there were kicks missing the mark, efforts that could have been much better etc.

Maybe go with:

IN: Dow, Stocker, Saad
OUT: LOB, Boyd, Fisher
LOB is doing his job..yes he has his moments but then so does everyone..Crippa has a few costly errors during a game .

Whilst Stocker is getting fit in VFL and in the absence of Saad, Boyd was worth a shot because I can see he has all the attributes required to play as a defensive small who can also kick the ball - his #1 attribute on display was leg speed and a willing contested attitude. However he is a bit of a roughie in terms of skills and was found out in a couple of contests fumbling the ball in front of goals. Saad in for him is a no-brainer at this stage - but obviously, he has got a tick next to his name as far as the coaches are concerned. Williams too was a bit fumbly for a player of his class he had an ordinary game. Young didn't embarrass himself. on Saad I reckon Hawthorn would have had their scoring stopped a few times by his leg speed and spoiling ability.

Suspect the only change to backs will be Saad in Boyd Out - Plowman will be looking over his shoulder at Stocker's VFL performances I would think.

Martin was the medical sub - a nod to the existing small forward structures - will be interesting to see whether Voss continues with this thinking. Hawthorn were given a fair bit of rebound run space for far too long in the game - it seemed like Voss may have let the flood do its thing to stem the tide for them - but I was a bit surprised at how well Hawthorn were able to execute the long kick to space forward of center square from HBF as often as they did - that was a really bad look and very much spoke to Carlton's lack of defensive interecepting mark capability with teh absence of McGovern - neither Pittonet not TDK featured much in plugging those holes....

The midfield was ok - but Cerra was kept quiet and a few of his kicks were pretty ordinary.

I think that the players went down too many gears after pushing to a 40 point lead and Hawthorn exp[loited the inability to cover the centering kick very well.

We don't know whether Pittonet comes up ok for the game or whether McDonald has recovered - so a couple of tall question marks to be answered.

Can't see LoB or Setterfield losing their spots - Lob's kicking ability is a weapon and his run would be even more useful if he improves decision making in contests. I think he is developing nicely. Rotations for both are covered by both Walsh and Cerra anyway during match play. I think teh Club is working through finessing the optimal bench rotation formula.

Docherty is much more of a weapon running as a receiver than as a lockdown defender - he seems to have his leg speed back which is great to see.

Out. TDK and Boyd
In. Saad and Martin
TDK looked absolutely spent after half time. Does not look fit enough at the level. Love his potential upside but, at the moment, may need a rest. He was a liability late on. Let Pitto grind it out in the ruck.
Boyd tried really hard but looks below the required standard. Saad replacing him is an easy swap.
Is it worth noting that the forgotten man, Dow has posted 30+ touches 3 weeks in a row???? Fogarty racked them up and good to see Motlop snag for.
Long story short, realistically, Saad and Martin to replace TDK and Boyd. - Agree! :)

Totally agree. Not sure if there is a better one grab mark for his size than our matty.

Another couple of points. Congrats to matty for turning his career around and congratulations to the coaching/fitness group for working out the best way to use him to get the maximum benefit from his skillset.

Agree with your sentiments but it is important to remember that is was Boyd's first game of afl football. Was a touch off the pace but that's to be expected. The coaching panel have given every indication that they believe that he is AFL standard and will give him opportunities.

I struggle to see us going into the game with an unchanged list.

Saad coming back would most likely see Boyd miss.

Inside midfielder - Dow
Defender - Parks/Boyd
Forward - Martin

Those look like the most likely in's based on needs requirements.
Saad in Williams out. Sad to say he is a scared footballer at this level.

Is his reduced playing time due to fitness? I find that a bit concerning.
Fitness has long been his concern, it appears as though now we're utilising him in a way that best suits him and generates the most impact.

~30 disposals a game is a good return for someone who plays 85% gametime so if he's managing it at about 70% I've no problem with it.

He dropped his head twice, was pretty bad.

I'm all for second chances though.

Stocker in for Plowman (sorry guys but our back 6 is just so much more fragile when he's there), Saad in for Boyd. Martin replaces Fisher who is the sub.

Motlop to dominate 2's for a bit longer.

Not the first game he's done it either tbf.

Seems to be marking contests mostly, head over the footy is ok, he charges in.

After last week getting abused for comparing Newman to Williams and wondering why one gets abused weekly... I did find it funny that Williams fumbled and second grabbed a heap of ball on the weekend.

Could it be that he had 4 score involvements to Newman's 0?
Or that Newman gave away 2 free kicks for goals?
