Watching that clip made me realise what make our game the most exciting in the world. There's just no other game where the crowd gets to scream and get progressively louder as their team builds that momentum.

In soccer, there just aren't enough goals. In basketball, there are too many goals (and especially just goals scored "turn about" by teams). In rugby, the ball just rarely moves fast enough, so after a score, things settle back down again. In grid iron, the crowd noise is much more about disrupting the ability of the visiting team from calling plays. And even when it is about the home team scoring, things again go back to being quite sedate for long periods.

But in AFL, when a team gets a run on, and scores a lot in a hurry, the crowd noise crescendo is simply amazing ... and when a game is tight, and it's goal for goal, it's still amazing, as each team's fans try to spur their teams on.

I know AFL games can get boring at times and things can be a slog, but that just brings AFL back to the pack, none of the others can elevate to the levels that AFL can.
brilliant post

Dunno if anyones mentioned it but it’s so refreshing having a transition plan better than ‘boot the ball to a pack down the line’

When Walsh is back, I wonder who'll have to take less midfield time out of the other 4? I think Walsh is the only one truly capable in a secondary position (wing).

Cerra and Hewett can also do stints on the wing

AFL app says Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett had 22 CBAs and Cerra 21. No cameos from anyone else.

It depends on what Walsh’s wing:mid split is. He could play predominantly wing, and then Cerra (rotate wing), Hewett (rotate wing/fwd) & Kennedy (rotate half forward) all give up a couple each. Or it could be more 50:50, which would involve more positional rotation from the other 3, but not necessarily an equal amount for each.

Personally I’m leaving towards Walsh starting on a wing, let him get a heap of ball on the outside and the fringe of the contest. Also less chance of someone landing on his ankle. I’m assuming that his tank is still good, as his running base level is astronomically high to begin with.

But could also see him being equal or more mid than wing, with the others moving around to accomodate him, aside from Cripps of course.

I was firmly in the camp of not believing we are a serious team until we beat Richmond in round one. So many false dawns could you blame me? I heard second hand a comment made by Tom Williamson about one month ago: “Voss has saved us”. I can only assume this is how everybody inside the club is feeling and our win is a huge step in the right direction. Thursday night was 100% required for the team’s self-belief. Hopefully this can be the start of something special.

Hope everyone who was bagging Cripps last year and cursing his 6 year contract see the error of their ways. Absolutely dominated when the game was in the balance. However it was such a pleasing team performance where everyone played their role.

Our new pieces all did extremely well. Such a sense of calm when Cerra and Hewett had the ball in their hands, both are extremely evasive in traffic with the ability to open up the play with their possessions. Kennedy looks like breaking out. McDonald and MCGovern down back were solid. We’ve also found one with Durdin.

SOS built our spine and now Austin just might have fixed our midfield.

Now we need to back it up next week. If Walsh is fit then surely he’s straight back in. Will be interesting to see who comes in: I’d say Philp Carroll or Motlop would also be deserving.

Especially since the art of persuasion has been replaced with abuse and ridicule. This thread is a perfect example.

Do you have an example of one of these occasions when he backed out of a contest?
Which quarter or minute mark?
Genuinely interested.
I mean I saw him drop a simple mark and stuff up some kicks which is what he's got to work on but I don't remember "pulling out of contests". I know he got a goal from charging straight at the ball with his head down.
Yep, No problems. If you have Kayo sports ill even give you the timestamp 3:04:53 into the game. Last qtr, 50/50 on the wing, pivotal stage in the game he absolutely crapped his pants. Commentary says he "Over-run" the ball, he didn't, he deliberately avoided contact and then gave no attempt to chase as Richmond waltz off with the ball. It took me literally 5 minutes to find this one event. There were plenty of others.

How exciting would it be to see Motlop run out

A problem that could occur is that we could throw our entire structure out by wanting a wingman like Walsh getting a heap the ball. Accumulators like Walsh just don’t seem to have a place on the wing atm

This claptrap would explain why your not the coach mate
LOL, and nor are you champ. This forum is for people to post their opinions, don't get precious because you don't agree with someone. I am happy to have someone disagree with me and have a discussion, but this just makes very little sense.

Nah not precious. All a bit of fun. As to LOB hes going alright according to Voss. Walsh will come in for him I imagine but that is no disrespect to LOB

Harsh on many of these players as far as not recognising their roles and the team things they did. Gov was better than 6, Martin worse. Weitering, Durdin, Silvagni and McDonald better than 5s. TDK way better than 3. See his clearance work in the last? Williams did a great job on Martin. Owies pressure in the forward 50 was fantastic. Just not understanding your scoring system.
sydney mod gives george a 10 game...........

Every game is the best to the person that follows it.
And every game has good and bad aspects.
Australian rules itself these days is not the game I followed for years.
I love Carlton far more than the sport it competes in.
It's the AFL version of the game that gets further and further away from being the Australian Rules Football game that we knew and loved.

My only real interest in the AFL version is that a Carlton team plays as part of the league.

I still love the game itself and my Club, pretty much detest most things to do with the League.

Tigers have a few players who look like they have gone on a season too long.

JR - is there ever a time he is not looking for a cheap free. Just doesn't want to take possession.
Cotchin - the fire looks to have gone and isn't prepared to work hard
