Surprised not a single mention of Luke Foley in this thread yet. I'm not about to rush out and trade him in, but I'll be watching him this week to see if he can back it up. 99 in a losing side. $245k def.

Nope, only got injured in the last 5 minutes of the game. Just didn't get near it
Rowell will be a keeper, Berry won't, so it's a solid trade.
Will you have any cash left in the bank after that trade? You want some cash in the bank for rd3 rookie correction trades. Are there any cash cows that did well in rd1 that you don't have that? If they do well again, you'll need to bring them in, so just be mindful of that. I have $54k in the bank for rd3 rookie corrections and I'm panicking.
I'd do itWould have 37k leftover. Already have the main cash cows in Martin Hayes Rachele

You're no funNo trades for me
Ok 2 trades and a trade boost this weekYou're no fun
Crisp/Ridley/Shitfield?Almost hoping Shitfield gives me an excuse. Could restructure and bring in a rookie for him and move Owens to Cripps. Regretting spending so much on the backline - worked for me last year, but feel I've overdone it this year, especially with three >500k defenders going under 75 with question marks on their roles.
Hinge to Foley in R3Surprised not a single mention of Luke Foley in this thread yet. I'm not about to rush out and trade him in, but I'll be watching him this week to see if he can back it up. 99 in a losing side. $245k def.
Which is why thinking 35 trades is ample can come unstuckTouch wood this may be the first time I don’t hit the post R1 panic button. Especially with Hayes and Murray on the pine in R1.
Whitfield didn’t exactly set the world on fire, but I’ll give him another week. Chopping rookies can wait until next week.
And there are temptations around. Danger, Cripps, Trac etc. But using that Optimiser thing my current forward bench is Coniglio and Brodie. Going to be interesting who I eventually leave out!
But back line and midfield benches are much thinner. DK out, Owens, Ward not great and I have Voss as a loop in the back line. Sounded like he might get a game eventually.
Injury and Covid never far away I guess.

Yep, those three plus Short and Hewett. Have all five of the forward rookies mentioned but only two that can be fielded. Will see how this week goes, but a restructure may need to be considered if we get much of the same this week.Crisp/Ridley/Shitfield?
TBH I still think going deep in the backline was probably the best play. We have 3 genuine options under 200k in defence playing this week and the cheapest of them is 157k. One of them has the loosest AC joint in the southern hemisphere and other 2 are KPDs.
Forwards have revealed themselves to be a rookie paradise (after 1 round but still - all of Brodie/Xerri/Rachele/Durdin/Martin/Hayes going 70+ with 3 100+ is insanity) and all of the mid priced options in the midfield seem to have gone really well with the exception of Berry.
I think you’ll come out of it alright.
He might be but both he and Maginness would both be my bench players as my midfiend is set atm unless injury and l have Rachele to swap if needed.. So l could have him sitting on the bench and not get Petracca or reomove him...l have chosen to take the gamble atm. maybe later on if l need to..Sorry, i mean that i think Ward is going to be a much better scorer than Maginness.

Sounds like we’re in very similar positions - I have exactly the same conundrum with the forward rooks and our back lines are very similar except that I went one premo shorter (didn’t take Crisp) and went one premo deeper in the mids.Yep, those three plus Short and Hewett. Agree on most of this.Sounds like we’re in very similar positions - I have exactly the same conundrum with the forward rooks and our back lines are very similar except that I went one premo shorter (didn’t take Crisp) and went one premo deeper in the mids.
Whichever way you lean mate, hope it works out well for you. I’m also considering a radical-ish restructure that never would have been an option before the “trade boost” and it’s hard to say which is the “right” way to use said boost given we’ve never had it before.
It will depend on covid/injuries. Blow them early you're vulnerable to injuries. Won't matter how early you go full premo if covid strikes rounds 15-19 and you haven't got enough trades left. Sure most of the players will only be out for a week or two, but throw in normal injuries and it will be donut city.Agree on most of this.
Saving trade boosts for post bye time when teams are complete would seem to be a waste.
Having them during sc finals would be no help as most wont have 3 trades left to use it on.
4 trades during the byes could be useful but I suspect those that use them rounds 7,8,9,10,11 will be pretty much compete before the byes.
That would give you 8 weeks in a row of three trades if required.
Either 2 down + 1 up for big upgrades
Or 2 down + 1 up one week and 2 up + 1 down the following week. This would give you 3 upgrades in two weeks and potentially a complete team earlier.
I think the goal should be to complete our teams earlier this year.
But as you say it is all new so no one knows for sure.
Agree on basically all of this - especially the 2 down/1 up followed by 1 down/2 up the following week. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve planned to upgrade in certain week but then there’s 2 “unmissable” rookies on the bubble so you either have to pick between the rooks or compromise your upgrade (I remember having a situation like this with Zorko last year, chose the rooks and then could not get in a position to get Zorko all season).Agree on most of this.

Of course if you avoid injuries/covid you will be near the top of the rankings, but that's always the case.

That is the balancing act.Holding 3 trades and a trade boost for a prelim or granny would likely win you the match. Those in cash leagues who get off to a flyer need to strongly consider this. Basically just convince yourself you only have 32 trades and 4 trade boosts.
Whitfield groin?I’m not sure of the severity of the “injury” but a star defender could be in some doubt.
That’s all I can say otherwise I’ll turn into Tom Morris.
