There seems to be a pattern for both Port and us of staying out of a lot of things we should be into this offseason.

Not really. Adelaide went big game hunting for Rankine and Port are just having one of those offseasons where they're the bridesmaid. There isn't even a coincidence there to say "oh x might be happening".

Lets be honest, Port desperately needed Rankine. Its a major coup for us to get him.

With Slops and Gray bowing out, they needed a good replacement for them.

Probably given up on Fantasia given how injury prone he is.

Doesn't take much for his inherent combativeness to come out. It was what helped him fashion a Sheffield Shield career despite suffering from cystic fibrosis. Gets his back up easily which is when the Port v Crows stuff comes in. A scrapper, a fighter.

I'm sure who he supported

I think it's just a sports role that came up rather than a particular club he sought out. He was beaten out by Jamie Cox for the director of cricket role at SACA a few years previous
