If you're getting paid at least $1.6m over a few years why wouldn't you try and enjoy it rather than asking for a bit more cash

How long has everyone been saying that for though?

Unfortunately they're a well run club and like Sydney I would expect any rebuild to be swift

Every single non-Vic team should be screaming in the media about this. It is the most lop-sided trade in history, and favouring the reigning premiers.

The trade should be prevented.

I think to stop the reigning premiers and other top end teams the AFL should strongly consider for example the top 4 finishing teams f not being able to participate in a trade such as the Bowes trade. It would seem fairer to me as I don't think if Bowes went to North or us for example as well as pick 7 the deal would be so hard to stomach.

But as it is the reigning premiers it does not come close to passing the pub test. If the AFL are going to allow it then for example exclude the top 4 or 6 teams No real problem passing the pub test and I can't see a lot of opposition to it.

The AFL say they want an even competitive even comp allowing the top end strong teams in the case the premiers to participate makes the strong stronger and the weak weaker.

they wanted an even comp until bonuses got paid on crowd attendance to upper management in the AFL...and since that day...and this was when Demetriou was first in place...well you know the rest

It seems to me for ages Geelong don't ever need to rebuild a player goes or an older player retires and that just add someone/top up and the just kept powering on (no pun intended) from a supporters point of view how good as they never bottom out just top up and go again.

The way its set up for some AFL Clubs they dont ever need to really gut their list and rebuild.

Cats, Tigers are definitely flag chances next year. Unbelievable.

I won't even be surprised if Gold Coast take Clark with 5 so that Geelong can take another player at 7 so that in two years time they can get Clark in for a future 2nd round pick, and they would have rebuilt as easy as anyone ever has.

I think the footy clubs needs to spend some of it's cash and buy up as many farms as we can. Then we have something to sell and bring in an elite powerful quick big bodied mid just for starters. Maybe Reid is decent list manager after all and his problem in the past he hasn't had any farms to sell.

Unfortunately he’s signed multi year leases on farm land unlikely to produce fruit and now we can’t sell it

Agree. We got Dawson last year, Rankine this year, at this pace we’ll take 4 years to do what Geelong will do this draft period.

Not saying we’re doing it wrong just pointing out Geelong have achieved the impossible in 1 trade period

What we and most clubs haven't been able to do is get senior players to play for under their market value. Guys like Sellwood, Dangerfield and Hawkins are fairly unique in that way. It will be interesting going forward with Geelong if that continues.
