The average Sydney fan's opinion about the rules of the game should be entertained on same level as a 3 year olds answer to 'what is Quantum Mechanics?'
I find quantum mechanics easier than the annual AFL rule changes and interpretation

Whateley & co's 9 rule changes for '19 to "increase scoring & open the game up" led to the lowest scoring season since '67. Instead of simply saying "we got it wrong" & revert the rules back they went for further changes. F1 has been making the same mistake for decades.
Mission accomplished,stopped a Richmond flag.

I reckon last year we were the best, or close to the best everywhere bar the midfield. So to overuse my old analogy, we're a race car that had a dodgy engine. If the engine keeps breaking down you won't win races. We've just got ourselves a brand new top end engine to go with everything else. We can match or beat anyone anywhere on paper now. Hope that on paper become on field. Cause this could be a great year
We were...it was only a dodgy 'anti-richmond' goal call that kept us from proving it to one and all!

I thought the 2017 Norm Smith could have gone either way to Houli or Dusty. It's not like he didn't deserve it.
My knee jerk reaction was Dusty BOG in the 2017 GF
then when a saw people crying foul saying Bachar should have got it
I had to dig thru the stats and pay more attention while watching replays
Bachar had a very good game , excellent stats 25 disp 5 tackles and a goal , I think you could call it a very good body of work , certainly worthy of BOG

Dusty had good stats too , 29 disp , 2 goals , but there was a sprinkle of magic about some of them
he inspires his team mates and supporters , he demoralises the opposition , that changes games
the waves of emotion and sheer crowd noise was a big part of our finals run and Dusty magic ignited a lot of it and thats not on the stats sheet
but the people that voted saw it and felt it

At the ground I thought Bachar but it's harder to see Dusty's clearance and contested ball work (6 clearances, 22 contested possessions) from the forward pocket. After I watched the replay I thought Dusty was the most influential player on the ground.
However if Bachar kicks those goals he missed and ended up with 3 then he may have won it.

At the ground I thought it should have gone to Jack Graham. He totally nullified Sloane who was the only person keeping Adelaide in it and then kicked 3 goals on top of it. That, along with his 2 way running and tackling, was more influencial in the final outcome in my book.

I had no idea he was tagging Sloane until after and I doubt any of the voters would've paid that much attention either.

His first Norm Smith is probably the only contentious one and that's only because most people who think Houli should've won have never watched the game back.

Just challenge anyone to find a single article or reference anywhere at all that didn’t have Dusty BOG in 2019. They won’t find it and shut up pretty quick.

And Houli, Edwards or Rance would have been worthy NS medalists in 2017. Martin was also a
very worthy winner … and as you say, watch it back and you will realise Martin played an almost perfect game of midfield football. 29 touches with 22 contested at 86% efficiency - it’s unheard of to go at 86% with 22 contested. 2 goals and 2 direct goal assists. He was clearly BOG.
