This is a rumour - take it or leave it 😂 que leemas, horses mouth, ‘what’s you sauce?’ jokes etc.

I have heard a RUMOUR from someone who I know for a has a personal connection to someone at the club - that Dan is gone (no surprises there).

And… with the free’d up cap space we are keen on Degoey and have already had discussions with him.

The club would like to use Dans salary for Degoey, with the view of him adding that Xfactor to our midfield set up whilst obviously playing forward too.

Dans replacement with the ability to play 50% midfield , allowing us to play Fort and Oscar? Is it that crazy?

Doesen’t make much sense to me and it’s the role we are devaloping Rayner in and already seem to have A lot of X Factor type players, but this is what I’ve heard.

It may or may not have substance.

Could be another Fevola moment for our club.
Not sure which way it'll go. Hard to say.

It makes sense to me to replace McStay with another midfielder rather than a KPF especially with the way Fort has played when given opportunity. Not sure that player for me would be De Goey however if the club is confident and comfortable with turning his off-field stuff around I would back them in. I think when De Goey was at his best he was playing nearly full time midfield and having a massive impact so I don’t think it would be unexpected if he turned into one of our main 3 mids. Would still prefer Hopper though.

We have the likes of Rayner and Bailey who play that x-factor forward-mid role. I’m not sure De Goey addresses our deficiencies. I don’t know if we need an A grader. I think a consistent, B grade mid who compliments our stars like Neale and Clug and helps them play at their best would improve our team just as much if not more than adding another match winner like De Goey who at his best would make us formidable but at his worse give us another inconsistent player who fades in and out of matches just like the likes of Daniher, Charlie, Rayner and Bailey are prone too.

I do like the idea of playing two rucks, however, instead of the 3 talls and having Rayner/De Goey rotating between forward and mid. One positive I can see is if De Goey comes up here and goes to another level under Fagan like Neale, Charlie, Lyons ect. have AND Rayner starts to really hit his straps next season, we could all of a sudden be borderline unstoppable. I say AND in caps lock, however, as we’d need a fair bit to go right in order for that to happen. Exciting thought though. I’m not too concerned about De Goey’s off field dramas. Sometimes premiership teams need some players who are on the edge a bit e.g. Aker and Pike.

Edit: One thing I will say that I forgot to mention, if we were to get De Goey and got him playing at a level close to his best, Rayner and/or Bailey take the next step and Ashcroft comes in and has a similar debut year to guys like Walsh/N.Daicos, it completely changes our midfield overnight. Even more so if Dev becomes best 22 next year as a clearance winning machine.

And then you also have to consider how dangerous a forward line consisting of Daniher, Cameron and De Goey could be if we got all three firing at once and cleared space for them. That would be so dynamic. I can see the appeal for Fages and the footy department despite the off field baggage.

It'd be a bad omen for us if we unveil him at Wet n Wild.

Something video game related I would say
Apparently BigAntStudios have the rights to the new AFL game that is coming out, possibly by next year by the looks of things now.

Or unless De Goey’s new management is BigAntStudios and they are announcing his trade to Brisbane :p

footscray apparently offering liam jones a 3 year deal. interesting offer to me for someone who is 32 at the start of next year with an entire season out of the system.

no love for our boy dizzy from the vic clubs it seems. maybe we can keep him for unders

I think the teams interested in key defenders are looking for someone that can play on the wave of ~200cm KPF players, hence the interest in Jones (though I agree I'd be a bit nervous about that contract given his age). Most clubs have undersized KPD players, so Dizzy is probably not high up on their list.

Gardiner's injury history will be another deterrent. While he may have got a decent contract last time around putting him at restricted free agent level this time - market appears to have cooled off and we could retain him at reasonable range.

It also looks like club may have had the same thought process around McStay before they got spooked by the interest and offered a longer contract.

An in form Jordan De Goey is a gun, if our coaching and recruitment staff think they can turn him into a consistent performer I would be 100% for getting him on board, maybe he would be better suited out of the footy bubble in Melbourne... not on huge coin though, around the 600K mark maximum.

I also think that Starc could be a great defensive midfielder as well. I have to think it would be cheaper and easier to bring in someone ie a ready made lockdown defender/hbf than finding a two way running mid. I also wonder if that is the type of role they may be trying to get Cockatoo ready for? Nakia IMO has looked better in defence than up forward and I dare say based on his distance travelled per game and top speed Starc is up there with some of the best runners in the game. Not really surprising when you consider who his uncle is and how some of the threepeat team marvelled at his running ability even when he was pushing 40.

Which is wild to me, he’s had a down year and a half sure due to injury, but back in 2019/2020 I rated him as almost as good as Harris (just without the praise). Would love to keep him, if he gets back fit he’s the piece we’ve missed in defence

I thought he was underrated for a while but the last couple of years haven't been great from him. So much so that I'm not convinced that he is playing any better than Payne is at the moment.

If Brisbane and Collingwood are basically swapping McStay for De Goey, neither team is getting a compensation pick for the player they lose.
Which would be fine, if we’re confident we can clean up his off-field behaviour it’s unlikely we’ll bring in a better player than De Goey through the draft or trades. Ashcroft potentially but we’d be getting him either way if he nominates.

The only thing I can think of is if mcstay goes through and then we package the compo pick for de goey as a trade with points back our way.

I personally don't see the De Goey trade happening. Too many parties needing to do due diligence and potential of losing tge Mcstay compo etc

Obviously completely hypothetical, but I think it makes sense for the clubs to do one transaction via the FA system and the other via trade. It manufactures a pick that the two clubs can utilise courtesy of the AFL.

De Goey is a restricted free agent. We don’t need to trade for him.

De Goey just doesn't seem like the type of risk, the club in the way it's managed now would take. I'd be all for his footballing ability but unfortunately there's a bit more to it than that, and whilst he could be the type of player to take us the next step, he quite possibly could also be a player who blows up the joint. I just don't see the club the way it's run at the moment, with the people in charge taking that type of risk (rightly or wrongly).

He is a FA, no way we could trade for him with Ashy and Fletcher on the cards - that’s also why I think we MIGHT be looking at it.

Potential top 10 players don’t come for free trade wise and at a discount ($600-700k per year) without some baggage - can see us backing ourselves in to turn him around.

I agree.

If JDG wants to come here as Brisbane is seen as "off-Broadway" as an AFL city and he's not going to be recognised every time he steps out, then it's a pretty good indication he has no intention of mending his socially indiscreet ways. If he wasn't such a ratbag you'd have him in a heartbeat.
