It’s ridiculous. Currently stonewalling a worse deal than was previously offered for Dunkley which is now off the table because it was also stonewalled; while also playing “hard” by refusing to offer anything other than a late 2nd round pick to Freo for their contracted leading goal kicker whom they actively want to keep.

See below. There might be some last minute fine-tuning, but given the lack of any further leaks from the Dogs camp, it's very likely the bulk of the deal is agreed upon. It's either being delaying to give the AFL the confected drama they desire, or some other smaller deals we or they have in the works are preventing it being finalised fully. Or both.

Spot on. Chances are the deal was done in principle days ago. The standoff between clubs is being sensationalised for some click bait.

As much as some of the Bulldogs posters have been frothing, there's arguably an equal number of Brisbane posters who are getting sucked into the drama.

Both clubs regret it if no deal is done but there is no doubt we are playing hardball from my perspective and the trading out pick 15 may have rubbed them the wrong way.

No doubt but if the ‘pony up’ posturing was handled better, we would likely all be in a better place. Remember, we needed points for Ashcroft and using pick 15 was our best way of getting them. The Lions have shown after recent years they are a very reasonable club to deal with so it seems unlikely to me we would be hard balling if we felt the Dogs were willing to play ball.

We will pony up today... 21, future 1st and a pick or 2 back our way and/or maybe some pick swapping.

I don't think McCluggage, Rayner, Bailey will be involved in the deal.

I wonder if North will consider 40 and 43 for one of our future seconds. We can keep 40, trade 43 for a Gunston + 52 downgrade.

I guess we won't need to worry about Dunkley + 39 anymore at that point.

Would north bid on 2 or 3 for Ashcroft?
I’d say 3. Surely you’d want one to believe north felt they were better than Ashcroft. If you’re north at this point …. You want to make the players coming in feel genuinely wanted.
I feel the same as everyone about GWS, seems highly unlikely they bid now. They’ve used so much draft capital to move up, it’s an easy to believe they actually rate Cadman so much high than anyone else. They probably need some form of positive PR out of this off-season as well. They also didn’t bid on Diacos because they had so much midfield depth, this has changed losing Taranto, Hooper and Bruhn though, still seems highly unlikely to me.

The appeal to avoid the pressure that JHF had would have been there if they held pick 1, different story at pick 2 IMO. Makes sense to potentially bid at 3, as they can sell the narrative they still got the best player in the draft, and the player they would have selected prior to downgrading anyways. Be a decent win for us, if it was to unfold like that.

A certain part of me hope Will is picked as No 1 - seemed destined for it in some ways. However there are many advantages of him not being selected as No 1 - points and perceived pressure.

He could go at pick ten and it wouldn't change the fact he is the #1 prospect in the draft.

Might add further fire in his belly to go out next year and prove he is the number 1…although from all reports, sounds like he is the type that would apply himself 100% regardless

If he doesn’t I hope he uses it for further incentive. As much as I love the draft at the end of the day it doesn’t matter if you’re picked 1 or last in the rookie draft. You’re on a list and it’s time to put in and see what you can do.

Fair amount of difference depending on where the bid is made, points required to match.

Bid pick 1- 2,400 points.
Bid pick 2- 2,014 points.
Bid pick 3- 1,787 points.
Bid pick 4- 1,627 points.
I suppose pick 22 is out of the question? ;)

It will get done but probably in the last 30 minutes before the deadline. There is no way we let Dunkley walk to the PSD for nothing. Pick 21 and a future 1st will be the deal with a few pick swaps thrown in along the way. Unders for mine but realistically he is no Bont and 2 first rounders was always a stretch, especially when he is out of contract.

It's probably safer for you to remain on our boards for a while ;)

Welcome Jack Gunston. Hoping he can stay injury free and we can benefit from his footy IQ up forward.

That sort of good sense has no place on BF and will get you Mofra banned on the Trade and Draft board.
