What's the saying: Spare the rod and Spoil the child?

No doubt some parents are to blame, there is no denying that, but the Gen Z fall back is to always blame someone or something else.

The good old days when you could flog your child in the middle of the supermarket for acting up needs to come back.

Can't wait for Simple Simon to play JVR 3 games next year only for him to request a trade to WA due to lack of opportunities.
He won us a flag 12 months ago. Some people's attitudes towards Goody ****ing stink. Its fine to discuss him, criticise him, laugh at some of the shit he says (see my avatar) but have some respect.

This is why we need to draft 6 KPFs. Hes already gone.

I think it goes both ways. it was mostly Roos that gave us the 2018 success but alas respect goes to Goodwin for getting us to a prelim. But the next 2 years were unforgivable with such a talented list. What was it 17th and 9th? This talented list was confirmed when we won the flag last year, despite the help of some new coaches. Then we follow up this year, being flag favourites, only to finish 5th with a horrible game plan as well as horrendous team selection decisions aka Ben Brown. Goodwin is under the pump next season as far as I'm concerned.

JHF was always going to be the Number 1 draft pick, since the father sons had been wrapped up. In fact he was always going to be picked so he had no concerns about getting into the AFL system. Makes you wonder how clearly North understood how keen he was to come to Victoria leading up to picking him then. In saying that Jackson is heading back to W.A, but not just after 1 season though. So he saw his contract out. From memory Adelaide made a pretty big offer for that Number 1 pick.

Pick details here: Crows Offer

Which was Pick No 4 and the two first-round selections in 2022 plus a possible future second rounder.

I watched some early games of North and he was actually putting an effort in unlike a lot of his team mates. Perhaps being dropped for Adelaide vs North also contributed to this (even if it was the right thing to do based on the reasons supplied). He also might not have any interest in being part of developing a Grand Final winning team but would rather be in a system ready to challenge in the now. Though I think both S.A teams are miles off that happening.

At this point he is coming across as someone who is not putting the effort in as well. So North are not going to get the same kind of offer they knocked back which is even worse as 2020 Pick 3 Will Phillips and Tom Powell Pick 13 have not shown signs of being elite (from my limited viewing). They are losing years on recruitment here.

If North did not have their finances in order I imagine the AFL would have leverage to move them to Tasmania.

Typical Gen Z blaming anyone but themselves, its mum and dads fault.. :tearsofjoy:

I shat on Barlett for not wanting to leave WA, there is a difference you realise. He didnt go to Brisbane and turn around a year later and say I want to go home.
I'm not blaming anyone lol I'm saying it's flipping stupid to shit on your own kids generation especially for reasons that have been there past, present and future.

Like I said , players have been moving clubs or going back home forever , this isn't some new generation thing.
15-20years ago out you had Judd, Farmer even Nick Davis all going back home after a few years at their clubs, all off the top of my head.
Arguably the best player ever in Ablett Snr was at Hawthorn for a year but hated the city life , had a year off and then went to a more country club in Geelong, how's that not similar?

On the flipside, you've got high draft picks like Cripps, Curnow, Weitering, Serong, Mcgrath etc. Staying loyal to their clubs despite no success, and some are away from home too.

I'm not ragging on the generations before me either, I'm just saying this shit is nothing new.

Believe me I'm pissed about Jackson and JHF too, it's especially harsh on struggling clubs like Gold Coast and Norf.
JHF seems like an absolute flog as well

Hey I gave you a like but Serong is not a good example of staying loyal unless I misread your comment.

Yeah you're probably right, that one was bit of stretch. All those names I just thought of off the top of my head
I put him in there cos he's pretty much Luke Jackson (Same draft year, playing for a club on the other side of the country) but on the flipside. Idk how long he'll stay there, but he's outlasted Jacko

No I am a complete idiot I was thinking it was Cerra you mentioned who went from Freo to Carlton. Serong is contracted to 2023, god if he leaves the Dockers fans would have a complete meltdown.

Yeah it flipping bizzare. For some of these fellas, everytime something good happens, it's the playing list, Choco, Yze, Paul Roos's legacy etc.

But when something bad happens, its all his damn fault and he should get sacked

Nah I get mixed up with them too, deadset I almost wrote Cerra down but then remembered he went to Carlton😂

well when Simon decided to stick with the same dumb game plan of kicking it long, slow and high to our key forward spuds then he needs to own that mistake. It wasn't just one mistake, but 24 weeks in a row that he persisted with it. It's especially dumfounding when most savvy supporting were screaming out for change. It was ironic when he played Petty forward for 5 minutes to keep our season alive and it took him 24 weeks to think outside the box. That's not a smart coach.

Getting so bad it's nearly time to add a no trade clause to new draftees contracts as standard procedure or add trade/draft concessions if they leave early.

O

Or make so that under contract players can be traded where ever the club chooses. The real ****ed part is north can only deal with one club. It they could say sure you can leave but have an actual bidding war then it's not that bad.

An simple solution to the contract is adding no trade clauses if the player is absolutely set on staying in a certain place.

This could only happen if the AFLPA agreed to it and they never would cause their contracts is the only thing they care about.

This is what needs to happen. Players are going to move but it is totally unacceptable that players now just select the club they want to go to and the club has a choice of either complying or keeping a disenfranchised player for a year before they leave for next to nothing the next year.

You think Horne-Francis requests a trade after 1 year if Norf can say ok you’re off to West Coast for their pick 2 and a future pick?

Norf should have taken the offer.

Quantity over quality when you are talking multiple first round selections for them - they need volume of talent, retaining a top 5 pick as well. Jeez.

George wouldnt be able to cope with danster.

This off season for North is worse than any of our bad years. Imagine if at the end of 2013 Roos got accused of this kind of shit and Viney demanded a trade.

He wasn't there but it would be more like Petracca requesting a trade lol. It's not even funny
