Even with a good chance that he can't get on the field?
Yeah take the risk. He went to that magician German hamstring guy then stormed home a couple good late games + more finals experience is awesome. Also he's a similar bubbly cheeky type like Ellis and those dudes are just awesome for morale.

Let me start with, this is not a shot at Gold Coast at all, because I wish every club success at the draft.

Ginbey is not a high production mid. And I don’t believe he ever will be.

He was successful this year as a big bodied mid, because he was bigger and more athletic than everyone else he played against.

Yet he didn’t rack up big numbers, because he’s doesn’t have a natural feel for the game of a genuine midfielder.

I believe he’ll end up similar to Starcevich, that he’ll find his home in defence, as a lock down defender, because he doesn’t have the natural high possession game of a genuine mid.

Everyone’s looking for the next Elliot Yeo, instead of focusing on what the kid actually is.
IMO, probably too early to say Ginbey will end up similar to Starcevich and not a genuine mid. According to his interview he spent last 2 years down back and moved forward only in the last couple of months. It looks like he did pretty well there considering he did not play there before. He does seem a contested beast and got good speed.

I think we could take both Hannebery and Anderson. But then Blakely seems to be also joining Suns. Max 3 rookie spots available, I believe.

That Gotham Penguin bloke you keep shouting at was suggesting that. I recall reading something about it when he left Hawthorn too, could all be BS though.

Don't think it really matters who we take, ideally they won't be playing much AFL. Hannebury seems like a waste of time to me.

Don’t we have 3 rookies and 1 main list spot available? I think we will only take 1 pick in the draft and probably upgrade 2

Currently, 35 on senior list according to Herald. If we use pick 5 and do two rookie upgrades (let's say Moyle and Brock) that's senior list full and it would leave us with Faulkhead, Casboult, Tsitas, Constable, Uwland (5) as cat A and Oea as cat B.

We got probably max 9 cat A and 2 cat B. So that's 4 cat A and 1 cat B still available. But we will probably take at least 1 academy kid (possibly 2) or could leave one spot open for later.

I shouted at him? Interesting. My volume control must be off.

Would really like us to take a punt on Lloyd Johnston. He will be positioned to thrive with the other Darwin lads around him and Harbs as a mentor.

Think you guys lost the second category b last year , may only take one NT kid and no academy kids from what I have heard

I don’t get how we have 35 main listed players… 38 last year less, Rankine, Bowes, Corbett and Markov gives me 34. Then add Berry and Long that’s 36…

100% correct.
Clarko fell out with JA very early on in his Hawthorn days after Jed had not been the brightest by getting very sick in the off-season.

Who knew if you trekked through swamps in the NT for a week then you were very likely to get bitten by bugs, and drink bad water.
Jed came back in a terrible state with very bad pneumonia IIRC and was ruled out for a couple of months and missed pre-season training.

That was enough for Clarko - line drawn, off you go son.

Clarko made it very clear that JA would not play in any Norf best 22 - so no new contract was offered.

JA has grown up a heap - good father, hard trainer, as tough as they come when it comes to putting his head over the ball. Tackles to hurt. Has a good tank, but not a great acceleration over the 1st 5 m

But he will cruise at AFL speed for the whole game, and not fade out. His kicking under pressure isn't stellar, but handpassing under the pump is good, and he kicks the odd goal.

The benefits outweigh the risk IMHO.
He's 28, fully fit, and has something to prove. For me, he is in the best 22, and frees up Matty Rowell at long last.

Give him a go - can easily play 100 games for us with luck.

And he fills a pressing need - someone to do the grunt work, to free up MR and let DS go to half-back.

I can't think of many other DFA who fit such a gaping hole in our list?

He won't let us down.

Got to be better depth than Constable or Tsitas. I wouldn't want him to be getting midfield time ahead of Davies or Flanders though.

Tbh most of these guys discussed are fine if they are cheap and happy to be back-up.

IMO, not best 22 when we are healthy but I would like him to be picked up by us, can play, is tough. I certainly hope Flanders, Davies progress and are played ahead of him. DS (David Swallow?), I don't want anywhere near half-back, should play a role he played in second half of the season when he was mostly great.

Dew mentioned that more players will run through midfield (Flanders, Ainsworth). Let's hope that's the case. A full uninterrupted pre-season for Rowell is another wish.

Getting someone who can play a role in the AFL is a great result for a DFA.
Whether that role is a best 22 player or a good replacement player is mostly up to the player, but either is still a great result.

At the least, Jed would be a good replacement player. Certainly ticks the toughness box for Dew.
