Who would Day replace? Not questioning his talent, he looked great in his first year. But every year he got injuries, still skinny, played 33 games in 3 years.
Hawks play him now on wing. I am pretty happy with Hollands, Ellis, Powell, Weller, Luko there. No need for Will :p
You couldn't say no to 2 Wil Powell's?

Will Day would add gut running and class on the wing.

Would prefer to see Hollands play the Petracca half forward role, the kid knows how to kick a snag.

Weller is pretty flexible could play anywhere the team needs

He does play like Powell.

I think we have the role/position covered. He does seem prone to injuries and would cost a lot of money and a good pick.

Would he be a difference maker? I would rather save money and pick on someone else.

As I said, somebody would miss out on the best 22. Curious, who in your best 22? If you move Hollands to half forward role, what would be Humprey's role down the track, what happens to Flanders who seem still to play more forward, Davies still rotates between forward/mid, etc. We still got Sharp as a winger, kept Faulkhead to see if he can make it there too.

What a good problem to have where our list is that stacked that we are debating whether or not we have a spot for Will Day. I'm loving this!

My best 22 would have Hollands currently at the wing position, but in the future (maybe even the second half of the year) i would like to see him move forward and have more shots on goal. He's strong overhead, can kick left and right over 50m each, ability to accumulate and has a strong endurance base already.

Of course we're all big on Flanders to break out this year, and with all his hard work over the preseason hopefully he does.

With the pool of powerful mid forwards we have in J.Anderson, N. Anderson, Davies, Flanders, Hollands, Humphrey, if they all show their potential we win a flag simple

A player like Will Day may not cost much money. He was draft to Hawthorn during peak covid lockdown years, he may just want a fresh start... O'Meara style

If we're prying Day out of Hawks who have tonnes of cap space we are paying top dollar. People getting way too excited at him saying he was a Suns fan as a kid (presumably cos Sam's his cousin). He'd have a far greater affinity to Hawthorn now I'd guess as he was stoked to get there.

As for Hollands too I think it's best to leave him in one spot. He needs continuity.

Well if we are paying top dollar its not too bad i guess, Will Day started in their 1's centre bounce for match sim.

I'd personally rather spend that on keeping our current cattle or a superstar if opportunity arises. Decent player but if it's me I'd rather not pay top dollar for him.

Always keen to add a player of need but retention is our main focus now. Think the list is looking in really good shape, just need to keep them together.
The thing with Day is hawks will offer more $ than us aswell as a starting mid position. I'm guessing he would be a wing/half back for us. Our selling point would be the chance of success (feels weird saying that). This is assuming he would even entertain the move.

You're asking the wrong questions.

You really should be asking only one question.

Does Will Day make your best 22?

If the answer is yes, then it doesn't matter who he pushes out, because he's better.

As for Hollands and Humphrey, geez it's tough having the problem of how do you fit Petracca and Dusty Martin in your team.

You're really getting to the point where you're overloaded on too much young talent, and it's only going to get worse with the amount of genuine talent coming through your academy.

You're going to start losing one or two players a year from just outside your best 22. Not from go home factor, just from opposition teams offering these players more playing time and possibly more money.

Hollands and Humphrey are better players than Flanders, playing the same position. If I was Flanders, I'd be looking for more playing time elsewhere.

Sharp isn't a big loss, despite what was given up to get him originally.

The big thing for me is, Gold Coast should start pushing first rounders in to the future, and keep doing it season after season, until you come to a point where your academy has a down year or two, or you need to refresh your list through the draft.

Thanks for telling me what my questions should be. That's great.

Yes, no point to bring in someone who is not best 22 and who we really don't need, IMO. As Suns say now, re-build is done, the list is good enough to play finals. Now it's time to bring in players to complement, strengthen the list and continue maturation process.

I don't think we are overloaded with talent but yes we are in good shape. We lost Rankine, started sorting players out - Bowes, Brodie, Wright - and it will continue. A lot are still mostly in potential category - Andrew, Humphrey, Hollands, Rosas, Jeffrey, Davies, Moyle.

So yes, we will lose more players, especially players outside best 22 lacking opportunities and getting offers.

Yes, Flanders I would expect to be one of them but surprisingly he seems committed to Suns. Let's see how he goes this year. He had underwhelming 2022, IMO. He needs to rotate through midfield more, not suited to roles Hollands, Humphrey will play. Although Holland and Humphrey could end up full time midfielders FWIW. Way early to say.

Yes, Sharp leaving would be my guess too and not a big loss based on up to now performances.

We will probably also try to use first rounder to bring in top prime player, in next 1-2 years on top of academy kids.

Fair enough, just don't sleep on Will Day too much. Big future
Definitely not sleeping on him but there's plenty players with big futures in the AFL. We're only talking about him because he said he liked the Suns once and his name is Day. Otherwise he's just another talented kid at a Vic club.

And that he's holding contract talks off for the rest of the year.

Hawks fans were discussing Noah Anderson's future, this is no different.

They might get the chance to trade for 3 first rounders this year
North have enough good young players now, they should take Reid.
WC might entertain offers if they consider him a flight risk.
Hawthorn (my favourites for the spoon as they are clearly tanking for it) are the interesting ones. They could probably use 3 high picks more than one gun, but time will tell. i'd looking for them doing a Bowes style trade to get another first rounder too, maybe GWS will want to offload Whitfield for example?
