I went on a bit of a rant that he was a GWS academy kid via Canberra (his family was from Wagga Wagga), and that his parents moved to QLD in late 2015.

HTF is Vic home?
Reminds me of the Melbourne media claiming WA's Jaeger O'Meara wanted to head home to Victoria when he joined the Hawks and Brisbane boy Tom Hickey also wanted to head home to Victoria when he joined the Saints. It's just lazy journalism but they get away with it because there's a natural bias down there that seems to propagate the idea the the best players in the AFL are Victorian and they all want to play in Victoria.

This is the same media that desperately tried to convince their people that Victorians weren't leaving the state in their droves (most of which ended up in Queensland) during and after the pandemic when the stats clearly showed the opposite was occurring. Very questionable journalism taking place down there.

Sneaky thought on a win win multiple pick swap.

Assume Eagles finish with pick 2.

Suns 1st is 6 or 7.

Jed Walter likely to go around those picks.

Eagles trade pick 2, 39 and 58.

Receive Suns 2023 picks 6, 24, 33 and 2024 1st. Likely pick 7 to 10.

Suns get to use pick 2 and then gain picks to pay for Walter say 1500 points.

Suns effectively upgrading two picks around 6/7 and landing another top 5 pick 12 months earlier.

Draft Curtin and Walter.

Watson and Walter.

What round are they expected to fall in?

Im sure the Suns will have other player movements that will generate later picks.

Also Ben King out of contract next season, if he leaves that would get the Suns back into the 1st round.

The deal really comes down to the Suns feeling bringing in two top 5 picks in 2023 is more beneficial to Walter's plus a player around pick 7ish next year.

May need to move around some of the later picks to balance the ledger.

What happens if read gets bid on at 25 and Rogers at 40. They’re pretty realistic/conservative estimates I believe.

I get the premise, but seems like a lot to give up.

Got to factor in that Sharp will also go back to WA at the end of the year. Maybe makes more sense if you take Sharp and leave 33 out of the deal.

I think in the end we’ll be happy to take our 3 academy kids in the draft.

Won’t happen, if anything we will sell our first rounder into next year

But I don’t blame you for trying as only the Suns trades team is dumb enough to give up 2 firsts and 2 seconds for 1x first and change that doesn’t get you the clear standout player in the draft

Suns don't give up two firsts and get nothing back.

They get dibs on pick 2 and another top 5 talent using junk picks.

It all depends on what the club wants and when. Do they want two high end talents now or 1 now and another next year.

If this draft is stronger and they want to accelerate improving the list then there is upside.

When do King and Lukocious come out of contract? 2024 and 2026.

Do you want to get ahead of them potentially leaving and have replacements already in the system?

Do you snap up another elite mid?

The way the Suns are heading you won't be getting many pick 2s in the future as the club should be playing finals in the next 2 to 3 years.

Having another top 5 drafted player wanting $400k in year 3 would only put more pressure on the salary cap in the years you are talking about key players looking to re-sign or leave

We have enough young talent, our picks should be used to secure elite talent in their prime to complement what we already have. Not gifted away to other clubs, we have done enough of that in the past

If we can move some pieces and manage to get either harley reid or Nick Watson on top of the 3 academy guys I'd be all over it. Very unlikely though, happy with the 3 locals even if we have to move our first rounder into next year.

I flagged him last year - James Jordan is open to a move to us.

Very, very good young player who is easily (IMHO) already a walk-up best 22.

Hopefully we have been in touch already.

The return of TGP! The Tarryn Thomas inside scoop king.

I actually would be a fan of James Jordon though. Hope you're right this time!

I was right last time.

Anyhow, not doing that dance again.

Friend of a friend - as you recall he was dirty about being unused sub in a GF - despite teammates offering to be subbed.

Lack of a guaranteed 'best 22' spot has left his agent asking question of list managers.

I was told that an interstate move was 'absolutely' on the table, if the right offer came in.

He's an unrestricted FA as far as I know.

Plus he doesn't drive with his feet up or throw furniture at women, so that's an improvement on the last guy who was open to a move to sunnier climes.

JJ has a lot of Vic interest though.

An absolute ripper of a bloke as well.

I hope you are well MLCS

Always a bonus!

Gresham would be very handy, if we could turn constable, day, Tsitas, sharp into Gresham, Walter, Read, Rogers it would be a successful trade/ draft period.

I heard Tom Browne mention the suns are into Jeremy McGovern. I know people will say he is too old, but I think a fresh challenge could have him back to his best and key defenders are a major list weakness.

I'd like to see the suns move from always being in this 'development of high draft picks' mindset, to getting the most mature and best list together possible to play finals. They can't always be in development mode forever.

I don’t mind you commenting here. But this post was a particular stinker.

In past 2 years we’ve picked up mature aged Chol, Casboult, Jed anderson,Connor blakely,James tsitas, Rory Atkins, Tom Berry, Ben long, Charlie Constable, Jake Stein, Brodie Mclaughlin.

11 players in 2 years. I’m sure we’d rather attracting higher level players but the reality - who actually wants to come!?

We don’t have the luxury of this kind of non salary cap side deal to attract players unlike the big clubs in Melbourne.

For what it’s worth, I’ve heard on triple m and official AFL.com podcasts for weeks that mcgovern is about to re sign at west coast for 2 years..they’ve all seemed to turn their nose up at that concept given he’s always injured.

I’d rather not pay someone to sit in the rehab group…

We probably needed him a few years ago. We've been patient in developing our own tall defenders in ballard, Collins, Graham, Andrew, Brock. Also would like to see how ethan read goes as a defender. If we were to take a punt on an ageing eagle I would rather it be liam Ryan.
