Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Fair enough.
Still, he wasn't able to stand up to the rigours of the game, despite performing exceptionally well.

In any case, there's a player analogy to support any argument.
I still think an underweight KPD will be more exposed than an underweight mid/flanker.
That is true too, and when we draft McCabe, I'm sure he'll have a pathway mapped out for him that will aim for a debut in his 1st season. How that comes about will only be known once he gets through the door. Based upon this season, he'll have to earn it, which is only fair.

We've put him out to pasture and hidden him well, of late.
Similar to what Dodo did with Munkara.
Wasn’t there a picture of him at Hawthorn training with a moon boot on? By memory it was a grainy pic but someone did confirm it was him. I’m sure he takes the moon boot off when all the cameras are gone though 😂

Day spent most of his first season at BH but showed enough to play in a peripheral role.
Second season injured.
It took until his 3rd season to settle in...so I guess they were right.

Different Will.
Different positions, and different type of accountability as a KPP.
People forget the facts when they get excited by the potential.
There was no Box Hill in Day’s first season

Playing as a KPD?
I can't see it happening in his first season tbh.
Not ahead of Serong, Blanck, Sicily, DGB as other KPD options.
And I can't see him playing as a rebounding type.

He will have to spend time getting bigger and stronger first.
Not against him as a draftee, I just think he will be a long project.

There is nothing controversial in expecting a KPP draftee taking a few years to develop in the VFL with an occasional cameo appearance in the AFL team.
Most 18 year old KPPs are not ready and are recruited with that expectation.
Short term needs are best addressed by means of trading or free agency.

I watched that champs game and couldn’t help but wonder why he had been playing in defence!

Which position/s did he play in those games?

He's a 192cm KPF who had to play KPD at the champs in the 1st 2 games and did well, had 1 game where he popped off as a forward and another where he didn't, he played forward for Werribee and looked at home at the level despite playing only half the game or so kicking a couple of goals and dealing with the bigger bodies well imo(from someone who actually watched the game and not a stat sheet), the last 2 years he has been one of the best KPFs in the CTL in a poor to average team, the western jets, he could be an option mid draft? possible bargain?

from the afl channel on youtube, just to get an idea of how he plays

COVID. The VFL season was cancelled.
It was 14 v 14 scratch matches made up of several teams for each game.
Yeah i know but he did play some practice matches before the season started and they stopped the VFL

Colby was delivering another banger of a game, but ended up having a bit of a torrid time with injury. Had his bell rung from an awkward collision midway through the second after which he got up shaking his head and spent a period on the bench. Was noticeably quieter after that incident. Finally had his afternoon ended by a nasty looking ankle injury early in the third which required him to be carried from the field.

The more I watch this lad the better he gets, have changed my opinion and I reckon he should be a first rounder.

Dyanmic, skilled, fast, classy.

Draft him and play him in the forward pocket if you must. A gun is a gun, let's not mess around here.

That makes our list management even more interesting. First round pick, maybe a second bd first round pick, second round pick, maybe Tew and any free agents. That’s a lot of delistings, and doesn’t include trading players in.

I thought the whole idea of these next-gen academies was that clubs bring in young talent from diverse backgrounds that wouldn't have otherwise played this code of footy or wouldn't have received the same development expertise afforded to players in the traditional pathways. In exchange for investing in these kids that clubs would have priority access to them in the draft.

So I don't understand why this "officially being approved and listed" stuff is only happening now. Surely the eligibility is confirmed when they join the academy in the first place. And if a player hasn't joined an academy until this point because the club in question hasn't invested anything in them, then why should they gain the benefit of priority access?
