List Mgmt. 2023 AFL Draft

2017 AFL Draft our first pick was 47 and we took Sam Hayes because he was the best available, wasn't the type we were looking for but couldn't go past him. Took Kane Farrell at 51.

Funny enough Sam's poor aerobic testing at draft camp was said to be the reason he slid so far.

He's got a ciggy butt brain. Can't be helped

We have to delist 3 players from here. It is the rules. Our main list is at maximum capacity and we must still bring in or promote 3 players in the draft.

Unless something unlikely happens with Clurey, all 3 will be delisted. The only way any stay on with us is if we rookie list them. At the moment it seems highly likely we've said farewell to Hayes and Lycett. IMO I would suggest that unless we decided a firm no on Orazio, that he has probably been offered a 1 year rookie deal by us, but GWS might've offered 2, and if that's the case we'd let him slide to them in the rookie draft.
Called what was happening with Orazio. He might've been offered 2 by GWS on a rookie list, but has taken an offer of 2 on a main list with Carlton over a 1 year rookie deal with us. Makes sense. Annoying for us, but he wasn't worth risking more.

Patrick Hughes.

Moorish Medal winner.

Lacks outside game the knock by accounts.

Will argue that you win the Moorish Medal you are good at something and lack of pace or outside game to one side he is a very good inside mid who is going to be sitting around without a home at the end of the draft.

Henry Maerschel (191cm, 76kg) Defender
  • impressively quick beat Luca Slade in the 2km time trial
  • rookie me central has him at 189cm but as grown since
  • "Showed his elite endurance capacity with a time of 6:15 on the 2km time trial which was ranked fourth best overall among State Draft Combine participants."
  • has a booming right kick (60-65metres)
  • good intercept mark and run
  • our current pick 112 will do nicely which will be a pick in the 70s

Caught a game with him earlier in the year and he tickled me, if we had a few picks he and Lord at Sandringham could have added to our young midfield mix. However with only a few picks I think the Cricketer come forward is a higher ceiling prospect and fits multiple needs better than Hughes and Lord, unfortunately. This Maerschel looks and reads very intriguing…

Looks ok, but we have a few 190cm defender types on our list atm, so don't necessarily see him as a need.

If we delist Lycett and Hayes, a 4th ruck becomes a necessity.
A quick Houli/Saad/Harbrow type small defender is a hole in our list.
Need nippy, creative small goal kicking forward (or two).
A pacy, running wingman needs addressing, unless we plan to move the likes of Bergmann or Burgoyne or Jones up the ground.

Maerschel definitely has the attributes to be developed for the wing role as his secondary position which would make him versatile.
Gives us depth if Bergman decides to leave for Vic after his 2 year contract ends.
Gives us enough time to develop him in the SANFL.
Fast, athletic, can take contested marks and has a good leap.

Noticed Stanley Waistcoat kicked 5 goals for The Crocs in the NT league yesterday.

If we wanted to spend a bit of time on a really good kid we could get him down here maybe with the Magpies next year.

Im all in. We need Stanley Tweedjacket just for his name

190cm half back, no. 190cm Quick line breaker with penetrating leg may develop into a Half Forward or wingman. Another growth spurt and he hits 195-197cms then we may have a CHB on our hands…

With Fantasia leaving it looks fairly certain we’ll have 3 picks split in some way between the national draft and rookie draft.

Surely we are only looking at midfielders, small forwards and maybe a ruck.

Wing and small forward are the spots we need filled.

Wings we probably already have better than we can draft with our picks.

Id be happy with 1 18 year old small forward, 1 mature small forward and the best available mature mid to teach the kids in the Maggies and provide depth.

edit:

We must take 3 picks. It is the rule.

You'd expect we will promote Williams and McEntee, meaning only 1 pick is required in the main draft, and we have 2 picks in the rookie draft.
