Let's get a little perspective. He's having a very good year, but he not had a winning season since 2016 (his only winning season for his career).

I'm not sure how many winning seasons Gary Ablett Jr had at the Gold Coast. Or how many winning seasons Tony Lockett had at St Kilda.

I'm also not sure as to the relevance of your comment.

Edit - Lockett 3/12 winning seasons at St Kilda. Ablett Jr 1/7 at GC.

Bont, Petracca, Daicos, Curnow, Butters, Rozee and Greene are all better right now for sure. He's in a similar position to the likes of Merrett, Walker, Neale, Gawn, Taranto and English. So fringe top 10.

Sicily is better than anyone in that second group right now. He's absolutely in that conversation with the first lot too.

Nah. He's at the same level as the second group.

By your logic anything GAJ did at GC should be eliminated because he was the standout player in a garbage team. Yet his achievements at Geelong stand up?

Can you not see the flaws in that argument?

James Sicily is the best all round defender in the AFL. He has been for about 5 years now (minus his 12 months out with the ACL) and it's not even close. Right now he is arguably the best player in football. Full stop.

I do agree that both Stewart and Sicily should have been in the AA team last year. Stewart is a wonderful footballer.

1 That is not my logic or argument, I didn't say anything about anything being eliminated or GAJ v Geelong or Hawthorn, get a new arguing technique please. I said being the best platyer in the best team for the year suggests that player played well.

2 OK if you think so.

3 Glad we agree on one thing.

It seems he is arguably the best player in football...you know given that there are quite a few making the argument.;)
And many others (without brown and gold glasses on) who think otherwise.

I definitely wouldn't say Sicily is the most influential player in the comp, but he definitely should be a lock for the starting 18.

His suspension really hurt the Hawks against my mob (for example)

Personality wise, he probably doesn't come across as one of the more likeable players in the comp, which I suspect why many non Hawk fans don't give him enough credit for his efforts as a player.

Very rarely plays a bad game, even at a very young and rebuilding team

If Sicily doesn't qualify as an elite player in this league, I don't know who does ..

Clearly he doesn't influence the intellectually simple.

You're wasting your time with this dimwit. He's the same bloke that refused to concede our midfield might have improved this year despite having got rid of Mitchell and JOM, repeatedly drawing attention to the fact that we were further down the ladder so the midfield must have been worse. He is either a massive troll or a massive dullard (or perhaps both) who refuses to acknowledge individual performances and performances in different parts of the ground might not always be aligned with game results. Good luck trying to get him to concede that a very good player might play in a poorly performing team.

I probably wouldn't go quite that far. I'd probably have Petracca and Greene ahead. But he's right up there, and that's from a Geelong fan with well known love for all things Hawthorn.

Thank you, Sorry I don't agree team success is irrelevant. One player is the best player in a team that wins 16 and a row and the flag. That would suggest that this player played well to me. That is very different from being a standout player in a bottom 8 team.

I don't know why Stewart was picked and Sicily wasn't but if I had the choice I would pick them both in the team. If Stewart played for the Hawks do you think he would play VFL while Sicily is in the team?

What this is, and has always been, is just another thing for bitter tinfoil hat Hawks supporters to complain about for years. Because Geelong and the illumunati etc etc. And still nearly a year later they can't let it go.

You realise that All Australian is just a popularity contest, it doesn't actually determine who's better. The same with the Brownlow.

He's a ranga with a horrible case of white line fever mate. I can see why opponents and opposition fans can't stand him. I feel the same about Toby Greene.

Why were GC rubbish when GAJ was there? Did he suddenly become less influential?

Your argument is trash and easily dismissed.

They were building well and on track to make finals for the first time before he injured his shoulder, which then affected him for quite some time. Your points are self serving and shallow.

Including AA selectors. Which is why it's more of a popularity contest than a proper who's best 22.

I have no doubt if there was an AFL World Cup, the last four or five years, Sicily would be one of the first picked by the coach.
