He sets up more goals than anyone in the competition - that's his role.
Breust plays closer to goal in a team with less competition for goals so of course he'll kick more.
**** me if I'm picking aa small forward who's kicked 7 goals FOR THE WHOLE YEAR!!?!?!? Jesse Hogan kicked more goals in a single game. Anyone who who has Gryan Miers in the AA is a ****wit

Finn Maginness is comfortably the best tagger in the comp. That's his role. No-one, including Hawks fans would have him in the AA squad. Playing a role isn't enough.
Tagging is a hard one to mark on stats though. If you're easily the best goal assister AND top 10 for score involvements in the league I'd argue your case as a forward for squad at least is pretty clear. Likewise if you were the top goal kicker and top 10 for SIs. I'm pretty sure this is the first time a player has met one of those criteria and not made the best 22 let alone the 44.

Having said that, Bolton, Miers and Martin weren't all going to fit the squad. I'd have dropped a back flanker and had two of these three players, not one. Redman's been the resident AA selectors car wash attendant.

You're not.
You'd be picking a half-forward with the most assist and score involvements outside of the midfield.

Breust Goals + Goal Assists = 53
Miers Goals + Goal Assists = 48

Geelong kick 63 more goals than Hawthorn, Miers contributed 15.7% of Geelong goals compared to Breust 21.7%, I'd say it's pretty conclusive
Reckon the other forwards in the AA team have the kicking goals part covered, wouldn't hurt to have a bloke who can kick it to them.

Oscar Allen a bit lucky to be in the 44 imo, but not going to complain.

Otherwise a pretty solid list imo.

Its the AA team - you pick the best in the position and if your a small forward you have to kick goals

You cats supporters crack me up

I remember in 2008 there was that BS competition between Chapman and Mooney to see who could get the most goal assists

COUNTED FOR **** ALL ON GF DAY

Fair dinkum - he pops it up in the air and Cameron and Hawkins mark it and goal because they are two of the best marking forwards in the game with a thousand goals between them that's a reflection on the marking forwards not the middleman.

Miers has 7 goals and 41 assists.
Breust has 47 goals and 6 assists.

You're at selection committee picking players in the forward line. You're telling me you'd pick Miers? Is that you, Bevo?

There’s way more to it than just goals and goal assists. Seriously, Francis Evans kicked 3-goals for Port yesterday… was he better than Martin with a goal and a goal assist? Evans had 4 x SI. Martin had 12. But on your metrics Evans was better ….. really?

Miers v Breust:

Disposals: 19 v 10.7
Inside 50’s: 4.3 v 1.8
Clearances : 1.8 v 0.6
SI’s: 7.2 v 5.1

I’m not saying Breust was a howler of a squad selection, but on balance of all factors Miers had better claims than Breust IMO. It’s an opinion business and there’s no right or wrong. FWIW I didn’t think either of them would make the squad.
