We would have been wasting our time and never a realistic shot, used for nothing more than leverage like the Raiders last season as GG correctly pointed out.
Also pretended he wanted to return to Chicago for a shot at his dream NFL gig which was absolute bollox

Panthers completed an interview with ex-Lions coach Jim Caldwell for their head coaching vacancy.

Caldwell has so far only been linked to the Panthers this offseason. Last offseason he had two interviews with the Bears, and the season before that he interviewed with the Texans. Caldwell still remains the last coach to take the Lions to the playoffs and had plenty of success with Indianapolis before Peyton Manning's neck caused him to miss an entire season. He makes an interesting complement to the mostly younger field of interviews the Panthers have that includes Lions OC Ben Johnson, Eagles OC Shane Steichen, Bills OC Ken Dorsey, and Giants OC Mike Kafka.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Colts have requested permission to interview Broncos DC Ejiro Evero for their head coaching vacancy.

The Texans and Broncos have also submitted requests for Evero, whose unit shined for most of the season toiling under the conditions that Russell Wilson set up for them. The Broncos finished 10th in defensive DVOA despite notably getting pantsed by the Rams on Christmas Day. Evero and DeMeco Ryans are the hottest defensive candidates on the head coach interview circuit this time around.

Ex-Giants GM Jerry Reese interviewed for the Cardinals' general manager vacancy.

Reese didn't get brought up in last year's silly season, but interviewed with the Panthers and Jaguars in the 2021 offseason. The Cardinals have now interviewed in-house candidates Quentin Harris and Adrian Wilson as well as Reese, and appear to be focusing on hammering down a general manager candidate before they search for a new head coach in the wake of dismissals for Kliff Kingsbury and Steve Keim.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that Rams head coach Sean McVay has permitted his coaching staff to search for other jobs "without resistance."

Rams beat Jourdan Rodrigue chimes in to note that not all coaches on the Rams staff would be guaranteed to get their jobs back. McVay did not want to block his coaching staff from exploring opportunities while he made up his mind on his next step. It's possible Raheem Morris could get snatched up as a defensive coordinator elsewhere, assuming Morris is unable to land a head coaching gig. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen already took an offer to return as University of Kentucky offensive coordinator.

CBS Sports' Josina Anderson reports that there's "still uncertainty surrounding the current front office situation" with the Texans.

To put this in a more blunt way, Nick Caserio said multiple times in his Monday presser that a new coach might not desire his services and that he would have to live with that. The Texans are currently casting a wide net on young coaches in their search for their fourth head coach in four years. It's not completely off the table that the Texans hire a new head coach who wants to move on from Caserio, and Texans owner Cal McNair told reporters yesterday that he would take a more active role in this coaching search. Caserio's Texans have won seven games in his first two seasons as general manager.

If we were to keep Wilks id hope Caldwell is someone we seek out as OC.

Serious? He's in his late 60s and hasn't been a OC for nearly a decade...hasn't had a job for a few.

Deadly serious. I dont care about age. Of recent times, Wade Phillips was a beast DC well into his 60's.

Caldwell's record with QBs is very good

With Peyton? I could have coached Peyton. Or Flacco’s miraculous 4 game playoff streak?

He’s had several interviews last few years but unfortunately for him for the wrong reasons

Flacco was garbage after he left, Lions went nowhere before or after he left.

He has deserved far more opportunities than hes had. Should have never been fired from the Lions to begin with.

Caldwell's record as Lions coach was 36–28 (.563), making him the first non-interim Lions coach to leave the team with a winning record since Joe Schmidt, who led the team from 1967 to 1972. His .563 winning percentage was also the best for a Lions' head coach since Buddy Parker in the 1950s.

id take Vic Fangio back in a heartbeat as the bears DC in his mid 60s.

49ers assistant GM Adam Peters declined interview requests from the Titans and Cardinals.

Both teams requested interviews with him earlier in the week. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Peters' "focus is on supporting the 49ers during their playoff run." Peters has been a popular name in league circles in recent years. He earned two interviews with the Giants last offseason, though New York ultimately opted to hire Joe Schoen. Peters could revisit the idea of taking a general manager role in the offseason, but he will remain with the 49ers through their playoff trip.

Panthers have requested permission to interview Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for the team's head coaching vacancy.

Moore has been a head coaching candidate during his four years as the Dallas OC. Last year he interviewed for the head coaching gigs in Jacksonville and Miami. He coached the Cowboys offense this season through a two-month absence for starting QB Dak Prescott, leaning heavily on the run game before shifting to a more balanced approach upon Prescott's return. Dallas finished the 2022 regular season with the league's tenth highest EPA per play. Carolina has also requested permission to interview Giants OC Mike Kafka and Eagles OC Shane Steichen.

Panthers are interviewing former Colts head coach Frank Reich for the team's head coaching vacancy.

Reich played for Carolina for one season near the end of his career and has ties to the Charlotte area. Unceremoniously fired by the bumbling Jim Irsay in November, Reich is certain to land a head coaching job sooner rather than later. He profiles as the kind of coach who could finally bring stability to a Panthers organization in constant flux. Reich should be considered the favorite to land the job, if he wants it.

Former Lions and Colts head coach Jim Caldwell is interviewing for the Broncos head coaching vacancy.

NFL insider Josina Anderson broke the new about Caldwell landing an interview with the Broncos as they replace disastrous former head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Caldwell, who went 62-50 in seven years as head coach of the Colts and Lions, is one of several re-tread candidates who will vie for what could be the least attractive head coaching gig in recent NFL history. Five of the Broncos' seven head coaching interviewees have previous head coaching experience.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms the Jets have fired OC Mike LaFleur.

This was first reported by KPRC2's Aaron Wilson earlier in the day, but the team didn't confirm it until later in the evening. LaFleur's dismissal was inevitable after the Jets finished the 2022 season with one of the worst offenses in the league. In addition to having the third lowest EPA per play, the Jets also finished 29th in the league in points per game (17.4) and 25th in yards per game. Whoever takes over as the next offensive coordinator will have their hands full figuring out the team's quarterback position, but enough offensive weapons are in place to make for a potentially less painful turnaround.
