NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms the Jets have fired OC Mike LaFleur.

This was first reported by KPRC2's Aaron Wilson earlier in the day, but the team didn't confirm it until later in the evening. LaFleur's dismissal was inevitable after the Jets finished the 2022 season with one of the worst offenses in the league. In addition to having the third lowest EPA per play, the Jets also finished 29th in the league in points per game (17.4) and 25th in yards per game. Whoever takes over as the next offensive coordinator will have their hands full figuring out the team's quarterback position, but enough offensive weapons are in place to make for a potentially less painful turnaround.
He will either end up in Green Bay or back in San Fran. When Matt got the job in Green Bay the 9ers blocked him from taking Mike.

Nepotism is a pastime in the NFL.

i wouldnt want him, there is talk the Packers might being back Hackett. not sure that is much better.

I think id rather Hackett than LaFraud.

As for the Panthers, I wouldnt mind Reich, dont want any piece of Moore. Think Johnson is too inexperienced but maybe hes just one out of the box, hope he stays in Detroit for one more season.

Still think Wilks is the fav if he has a plan in place to get a quality OC.

Cant believe youre reportedly keeping Barry 🤦‍♂️
Sadly i can. we kept Capers for about 5 years too long, so Barry has another 1-2 before he hits that 5 year overstay.

Reich would be good. Moore would be hilarious for all the wrong ways.

49ers assistant GM Adam Peters declined interview requests from the Titans and Cardinals.

Both teams requested interviews with him earlier in the week. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Peters' "focus is on supporting the 49ers during their playoff run." Peters has been a popular name in league circles in recent years. He earned two interviews with the Giants last offseason, though New York ultimately opted to hire Joe Schoen. Peters could revisit the idea of taking a general manager role in the offseason, but he will remain with the 49ers through their playoff trip.
I wonder what exactly an assistant GM does during the season that they can't take a day or two off?

Or is his ego so massive that he's one of those deluded people that think their workplace would fall apart of they aren't there?

Payton is the only coach to have back to back to back losing seasons and not be on the hot seat.

and only made/won his superbowl because of bountygate.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is part of the succession plan for when Lynch moves on. It also wouldn't surprise me if he is happier in his current role than he would be taking on a new role in an organisation he is not familiar or as comfortable in.

Edit....Peters also has a very big role in drafting, with the word being that much of the later round drafting success has been because of him.

Broncos requested permission to interview Cowboys DC Dan Quinn for their head-coaching vacancy.

Quinn was a hot name last offseason but ultimately opted to stay in Dallas. After the Cowboys turned in a borderline dominant season in pass defense, Quinn is expected to be among 2023's most sought-after coaches. The Denver Gazette's George Stoia noted that Russell Wilson specifically mentioned Quinn when asked about potential head coaching hires. “Dan Quinn, I know him personally, too. He's an amazing coach as well, an amazing person, an amazing soul, great leader." With the Broncos committed to Wilson for next season, it would help to have him fully on board with the head coaching hire. That certainly seems to be the case if the Broncos go with Quinn.

The Broncos have requested permission to interview 49ers DC DeMeco Ryans for their head-coaching vacancy.

Ryans was a hot candidate this time last year, too, and his star has only risen with the 49ers once again having one of the league's very best defenses. A Pro Bowl player, Ryans also has a strong coaching pedigree working in a Kyle Shanahan system that has churned out coaching candidates on both sides of the ball. Only 38, Ryans' age might have worked against him in the past, but coaching candidates have begun to strongly skew under 40. There's a real chance Ryans lands a gig this winter, though Denver will surely be tempted to hire an offensive mind with an eye toward "saving" Russell Wilson.

The Broncos have requested permission to interview Rams DC Raheem Morris for their head-coaching vacancy.

It's going to be a strange winter for Morris, who could be in limbo in Los Angeles as Sean McVay mulls his future. A Rams departure for McVay would instantly make Morris one of the favorites to take over in L.A. He's going to have to navigate those odds as he decides what to do with other teams' requests. The long-ago Bucs head coach is still only 46, and has become an annual head-coaching candidate since saddling up with McVay. The Rams' defense remained strong in 2022 despite depth and injury issues.

Broncos need offensive minded head coach to fix Russ Wilson cos otherwise they’re just wasting next couple of seasons until they can cut him without taking massive cap hit.

Rumour is John Lynch is grooming him to take his job sooner rather than lately. So doubt he leaves
