List Mgmt. 2023 Draft Thread - Part I

There’s a discussion, then once agreed on a player SOS calls it out.
Who ends up saying the name at the end isn't really what we are talking about though.

You were implying that the decision to draft him would be SOS's. As I said, I hope that's not the case.

Toce has a good record of finding quality players from different parts of thr country.

Won't happen but would love to see it.

Gold Coast would be stuffed because they have traded in all these picks for points and would need to go ahead and take him.

Can't believe North didn't bid on Daicos, that was a joke.
Daicos going at pick 4 was ludicrous, a real free hit for Collingwood

Toce & his team are the ones that do the leg work, so I dare say they’d have a list of a hundred or so players that would be split in different abilities & draft range.
I asked Chris Toce who will be in the draft room, he said himself, Ross Lyon, SOS, Gubby & likely the president Andrew Bassett (who has a keen interest in the draft).

Because Toce has built a strong drafting record over the last few years and deserves to continue to do his job

SOS should get a say in it but I dont think it will all be up to him and rightfully so

Toce and his team complete all the player reviews and rankings.

SOS is in charge of the overall list management. So cap and needs base requirements plus asset management.

Ross comes in and then applies a coaching lens. So personality querying. Positional needs. Etc etc.

They then rank on quality v need and scenario based.

Long story short.

Toce will advise who is best available.

SOS will make the decision if we trade back in or trade down or up.

Ross will ultimately support the decision and it won’t happen if he doesn’t.

how does the order go in teh HS? Sydney take Green? Can someone do the list ?
Every mock has Sydney taking Green.

Sydney also have a habit of going against the grain and they very much could trade with North and you imagine they grab Wilson.

The other play that will impact us is a potential Essendon and Adelaide trade.

Essendon trade 9 for 14+20

Crows then Have 9+10 and really like Wilson

So in this scenario we could have:

O’Sullivan crows
Wilson crows
Tholstrup Melbourne
Leake sydney

And we are left in no man’s land holding our dick having missed out on all the top tier targets.

Still hope Leake gets through to us. Darcy Wilson looks pretty vanilla to me. Is he quick?

He's quick and not vanilla. He likes to sell candy and blind turn. He's moves like Lenny Hayes at times. He's one that has high potential but might be more vanilla in the seniors where he doesn't get as much time. I still love Edwards and Simpson but not upset with getting Wilson. I think he's lower bust factor than Windsor who is a bit more pure outside and would probably need a lot more feeding.

Yep, to the point of a numerical list early and then perhaps listed in order by type later on. Go Tocey!

Windsor looks a gun but he won’t get to us so it’s a moot point. Obviously we’re at a point in the draft where we need a little luck but it won’t take much for us to land the players we really like. It only needs a deal like WC trading back into the first round with GWS getting a future 1st for things to get very interesting.

Being the draft nerd I am, I’ve had a look at some recent mock drafts to see who’s got us selecting which players for our picks in round 1.
Well, there’s a hellava variance!
Surpringly, Tew Jiath & Koltyn Tholstrup were listed most with 3 of 9 mock drafts, Charlie Edwards, Lance Collard & DeMattia twice…Archie Roberts, Ollie Murphy, Cooper Simpson & Darcy Wilson once.
Just reinforces how interesting draft night will be for us saints fans!!

Reinforces how delusional some people are as well.

I'd like Jiath.

Yeah, he's meant to be like his older brother so would definitely like him. Not sure we have enough picks for all the players I was too. Ari Schoenmaker as well has some rebounding back weapons.

The only mock that matters drops today.

Twomeys

His kicking is an absolute dream.

But outside of that it’s a huge red flag that someone at his size seems to project as an outside half back flank.

Not a huge 1 on 1 or intercept game

He's probably like Jiath from the Hawks in that regard. Great intercept player, not as great one on one.

AS likes to run and load up on his kicking which clears the midfield when he gets it right. To me he looks like a Sam Gilbert with better and longer kicking. Has a Daniel Rich boot though.

If he works out he's the type that makes a massive difference. Imagine Nas dishing it out to AS in space and Shoenmaker booting it to the top of the square without having to go through the midfield. The less touches these days the less chance of turn over.

Essendon are super keen on O’Sullivan so would be reluctant to trade down…unless he’s gone by they’re pick
