You know what would be the most Melbourne move ever? We lose JJ, Dunstan and Harmes so we chase a midfielder. Who's the best VFL midfielder in the country? Jarryd Lyons.

Dees player 24' lock it in

He's young and has lots of clubs interested. Could see a team offering him 3 years at 400-500k.

Would be robbery for us but compo tends to be like that.

Yeah, Toby Bedford playing well for GWS might work to our advantage here.

Would be pretty funny if he became a good player at another club too tho. Id be giving Goody even more of these eyes :cautiousv1:

So why are we keeping Ben Brown and Tom Mcdonald. Surely they're both gone. surely. regardless of contract

Never seen a club pay out a player just to free up a list spot let alone two.

He'd be a fine player for a bottom team. Hell he might even be decent for Essendon with their soft midfield. He's not a starting player in a top 4 side tho

I think hes rubbish, but im all for him becoming good when he leaves us just to highlight another player being held back in our crap system.

Turns out he was a superstar mid forward being held back in our defensive system. He's gonna be like Taranto for Richmond after he left the shit GWS

Similar to the draft pick tracker above, do we have a list number tracker? I've lost track of the numbers, but it's something like up to 38 on the primary list, 4-6 rookies and 2 Cat B rookies yeah?

So far we're potentially looking at Hibberd, Dunstan, Grundy and Jordon definitely gone, with Harmes, Tomlinson and Brown a bit of a watch. Then Deakyn Smith gone from the rookie list. Assuming all of Melksham, K.Turner (is he classed as a rookie?) and AMW stay, and McAdam comes in, Disco and McVee go to the senior list, then it's something like:

32-35 on the senior list (Up to 6 spots available)
2 on the rookie list (Up to 4 spots available)

We won't use more than 4 picks at the draft absolute max. So potentially there's another 1-2 spots for traded in players or free agents, pending what happens with those last 3. This would explain why we've been keen on holding on to Jordon and Tomlinson apparently. With Harmes contracted, I wonder if they force him to stay should nothing come up at trade time?

I'm not 100% sure on the list numbers these days as I know there's moving pieces and flexibility there with the makeup, but paints an interesting picture for those suggesting we delist contracted players etc.

I heard Ben Brown is going to retire

Would be handy to free the list spot. Can’t see him being much use for us next year.

TMac, Schache and Jefferson left as the KPF depth..
Who cares about KPP depth. If you have really good KPP depth your either wasting money or gonna lose one to better opportunity anyway.

Tomlinson is staying. McVee 's getting promoted in 25. So we have 3 senior players (Hibbo, Dunstan & Jordon) either retiring or leaving due to free agency. More to come with Grundy heading to Steak'n'kidney. We'll get compo for Jordon probably 3rd round 50-60 and a much better pick for Grundy under contract probably 20ish or better. Harmes will have to be a second round pick as he's under contract.
So we'll get in McAdam for a late 3rd/4th pick and Daniel Turner promoted. There's so much wiggle room that JT and Lambie can work their magic and rise up the draft board. We'll reap a good haul.

I will say whoever runs our trading and list management is a genius. Think it was Mahoney now it's Richo? We've done brilliantly at identifying trade targets and getting it done as well as being very proactive at trading in good picks. Grundy was a miss but that's on the coaching staff. The price was still fine

Don't tease me Ed.

In all seriousness I hope we keep him so that he can focus on the AFLW program. Maybe be Mick Stinear's understudy.

The intent was sound just that the execution was terrible.

Problem is that whatever we get it’s almost certainly attached to our draft order - so even a second rounder would end up into the late 40’s after all the NGA/compo/fatherson concessions.
2nd round compo would pick 31. Thats not getting pushed back 15 picks.

You have to spend your picks to match bids so the draft order gets pushed back less as a result.
