Need to take 2 tall defenders imo with now both Mccartins worries
I'd go one tall defender (Phillips) and one tall ruck / forward type (Buller) then back these two selections up with more at season's end. Should be able to stick Reid and Paddy on long term injury list.

The problem with Reid is that out of the trio of himself, Amartey and McClean, he was - by far - the strongest performer last year and is much more versatile, particularly down back. His back half of the season was outstanding.

If the medical staff reckon he's got a year or two left, I'd rather keep him but it's certainly a risk.

It's hard to compare - I think we think of those players at their peak but half our midfield is yet to reach their peak. I'm not sure which season you're comparing that midfield. Given that it contains ROK can't be later than 2014. Parker is the equivalent of ROK these days. Errol is the new Hanners (and even better if you ask me, I loved Hanners but I LOVE Errol). Chad and Rowy and Mills are less experienced than Macca, Kizza and JPK but could well be as good as them by the time they finish their careers (although I'll be pleasantly surprised if any of them are as good as JPK).

I feel warm and fuzzy looking back on the halcyon days but I don't have a problem with our midfield except that they're still lack some maturity and experience.

I think we maybe forget how good JPK really was.
The man was an absolute beast and it took 3 blokes to tackle him which left two men free. Dude was an athletic monster.

My current concern is we are easy to play against. I doubt opposition players lose any sleep when they see us in the fixture.

That Buller looks as though he could play a similar role to Reid

Also has anyone seen him play defence?
I’ve seen him play one WAFL game. He spent most of the game forward, with a few stints in the ruck - so no, haven’t seen him in defence.

It’ll be interesting to see if West Coast select him. Apparently he’s done a medical with them.

West Coast medical would be unusual.

If you are injured you get 10/10.

"Welcome aboard son you will fit right in"

Totally agree with his performance last year. He was outstanding. I guess it depends on what other options we have. I would rather us delist him than sacrifice a younger player or not recruit a KPF. But if those options arent there - we keep him understanding the risks with his soft tissue history. My hope is that one or 2 of McLean, Amartey or Logan show enough this year (when all back on the park) to give us confidence that we don't need to rely on Reid coming back.

Academies assessment for the upcoming draft

Are any of these Swans academy players likely to be low picks? Ie Are we seeing any future Mills, Blakey, Gulden, Heeney types coming through? Given the strenghtening of the junior comps in Sydney - theoretically we should see more quality come through Sydney over the years to come.

Chad Wingard is going to get traded for sfa at the end of the year.

Like Mitchell, O'Meara, and (to a lesser extent) Gunston was.

None of them will be first round selections. Mid 20's and beyond is where our academy lads will be landing this year. And we're still criminally short of high standard talls at Swans academy.
