Oliver's contract is an absolute anchor here

Melbourne shopping him and that contract...

I still think Melbourne are really after a forward

Everyone better buckle up

Our pick 122 is too much for a $1m and 7 year sookie, lazy, talented, decorated, team unbalancer on it own. I would want at least half his salary paid too and even then I think we need future picks as well.

You saw through me. I believe there is less than 1% chance that Clarry or Oliver will be at the Swans next year. Beatson is not that stupid. Talent alone is not enough. Why is Melbourne fielding offers. Vultures are circling because the smell of demise is on the rise. The Swans don't like distractions because it causes problems in the club if not this year than next year. Team chemistry is very important and Melbourne's actions imply that he is having an adverse affect on the team.
So good luck and high hopes to you all and happy dreams for the next few weeks thinking Clarry will be a Swan.
But Beatson knows it will end in a nightmare. At some stage.
OK that's cool. The Heat missed out on Dame Lillard so I'm just going to soak in this hot tub of dreams for a couple more weeks. Catch you on the other side ✌️

The whole Oliver thing is surely nothing more than trying to make the trade period more exciting than it actually is. Melbourne have said nothing, Oliver has said nothing.

Yet the journalists have heard through his friends that he wasn't happy with the Melbourne medical team and he moved into Max Gawns house, this then means he's on the market.

According to fox sports Melbourne have been into Harley Reid for a long time, wow, so has every other teams recruitment department.

I may end up with egg on my face but I'm calling bullshit on this on one.

The Western Australian saying 2 hrs ago he has been offered an extension at Freo. Herald Sun saying he has asked to be traded to Sydney. If true He is an insurance policy for Melican's fitness nothing more.
He doesn't need to ask to be traded. He is an unrestricted free agent.

Zerk Thatcher is underrated.

He was played out of position at Essendon because they had no one else in key defense, but he is a good medium defender.
Oooo .. don’t agree here.

I see Zerk-Thatcher as an ordinary fringe defender in a dud team & Dodoro asking for a first rounder would be comical if it weren’t for the McKay situation making the whole tall defender market completely absurd.

I’m not , might sound like it.

He hasn’t nominated yet which is stange

Is there more happening behind the scenes
He hasn't nominated as he is still contracted to Melbourne. I believe all the players who have so far said that they want to be traded to other clubs are now uncontracted. This will all get done once trade period starts on 9th October.

I've already got Grundy tapping it down to Oliver handballing it out to Gulden who is kicking it long for a Heeney speccy, leading to our 65th goal of the game. Carn.
Ive already got Oliver having a sook that things havnt gone his way, giving other players the sh*ts, pissing the coaches off, pretending hes injured and therefore being a very expensive, list destroying pain in the ass.

Yes hes been and likely will be a fantastic player.. one of the best in the comp.. With Melbourne in the premiership window, why would they trade him?

$7m for 7 years!!!!!!
He can come here for a mid 2nd round pick and melbourne pay 33% of his salary. Otherwise he can stay melbournes problem.
Will be an interesting watch this trade period.. and over the next 7 years

I don't recall Oliver ever having a sook on the field. I don't think I have ever seen him lower his head in a match.

This one. from around 16min mark.

A bit earlier around 14:30 when he said he faked a hammy so he didn’t have to do most of the running tests.

Good to see he has a sense of humour. Before the Beatson talk etc, Clarry admitted he was fat. Beatson saying it & others alluding to it was just a reality check but Clarry called himself fat before the Beatson comments. I'm glad Beatson called him out for it & clearly he's matured since those days to become one of the most dominant footballers.

Realistically apart from Gulden, Tommy Mac & Mills. No one is at the level of Clarry or structurally as important to the team.

Melb would want a combination of gun fwd or fwd/ruck, picks & a skilled ball user imo. Clarry would also need to accept the trade, I can't imagine him going to a non premiership contender. I think that's where we have an advantage compared to other sides. We're firmly in the premiership window with Clarry & Grundy.

Paying a combined rough estimate of 1.7mil/year for Clarry (1mil) & Grundy (700k) is fair imo. I assume our difficulty in recruiting talent from a purely $$$ viewpoint makes targets like Grundy/Clarry more desirable, if they want a lifestyle change too.

I wonder if the delay in Grundy deal is tied with our possible interest in Clarry?

Fun times ahead compared to recent past off-seasons. We could get everything, we could get nothing. Who knows?

Hamling has only played 6 games in the last 4 seasons!
He turns 31 early next season.
Would be disappointed if we went for him.

Edit: After subsequently finding out he played most of 2023 in the WAFL (after returning from a long term serious injury), it appears the Swans are confident he’s now fully recovered and hence he could be a great 2-3 years KPD option for us 👍

Perhaps because Alex Pearce who is an AA defender is ahead of the bloke

It all depends on what he costs. He's going to be dirt cheap and will provide a decent backup at the lease. Seen him play live a few times at the end of the year and he looked pretty good all things considered
