With links to Lual and Roberts would be pretty surprised if at least one of our picks doesn't get used on a half back. Links are pretty strong there.

Lual the higher ceiling, Roberts the higher floor

Hopefully, as our 2nd pick

And, Lual out of the two for me

Yeah me too
Disagree here. Lual is good but not as accomplished or well rounded as Roberts. Roberts is the better kick and better interceptor. He also is a couple cm taller and is about 12-24 months ahead in the gym. Roberts also accumulates much more which is probably down to being a better runner.

Lual is quicker and a better tackler but that's about it for me.

I think Roberts ceiling is a along the lines of a Sam Docherty and Lual is more like a Hayden Crozier or at best Aaron Hall.

Just for future reference..Please confirm that you preferred to keep pick 17 and take 40 from North or pick 22 and 26 as we ended up doing.
Not that you were asking me but I didn’t think and still don’t think there are enough good players in this year’s draft to slide back. I wanted us to upgrade 17 to North’s 15 and then hopefully do the same again with the Saints for Dow.
Hope I’m proven wrong but this is with 17 years of draft watching behind me. I like Austin and don’t think he’s wasted a pick yet unlike the bloke before him, I can see why they’d be after a half back too as there’s bugger all else available around our picks but there’s only a small handful of players outside the top 11 available in this year’s draft that I’m that interested in.

Looks like Austin agrees with you. Unfortunately Fisher and Dow were never going to have enough collateral to get up the draft order especially with our second and third rounders already gone.

But you can almost guarantee that there will be players picked after the top 11 that will end up better players than most of them. We always hear that it drops away but every year there are diamonds to be mined.

In 2018 Oscar Allen, Noah Balta and TDK were all picked after 20, in 2019 Bobby Hill, James rowbottom and Kieran Briggs,. In 2020 Chad Warner, Trent Rivers and Kedean Coleman.

They're always there. Just harder to pick right.

Austin most likely has 6-10 players on his list at our current picks in the 20's.
Whilst those two may be on the list, still think another mid fielder & key position player is more likely, also not discounting him being willing to trade our F1st & 22 to move up to a better position, Geelong or GWS who have two 1st rounders being possible options.

It was up to North to make the deal, wouldn’t have done either

If North wanted more than give straight second, then give ‘em our next pick in line whatever number that is

If the club thinks we are close to a flag why wouldn't they pull the trigger on Mannagh? Immediate impact prospect, with Fantasia and Williams back also.... Can you smell what the Blues are cooking?!

Easy to talk tough but Carlton were never going to keep someone on $500k a year on the list for 2 years who was surplus to requirements

Not sure if it’s been mention on here yet.
But heard a few times we are quite interested in Ashton Moir.

A draft watcher from the North board posted something cryptic the other day insinuating we are into him.

Would be happy with Moir. Probably the most talented guy left in our draft range and fills a need. Aside from Jack Martin we have no medium forward on our list. Maybe E.Hollands but the goal will be for him to push into the midfield eventually.

Just need to understand what went wrong this year and whether it has long term implications.

One of our phantom drafters selected him. Also saw someone from another team say they don't want their team to select him.

Taking a guy that was a touted top 5 in underage year who went on to do very little as a top age due to form and/or injuries is so Carlton.

Thanks for the info.

Strange player. Obviously touted as a top 5 pick before the year started but seemed to fall off a cliff body and confidence wise this year.

I wouldn't be opposed to it for our second pick but also would probably have 5 or 6 ahead of him at both those picks (e.g. Hastie, Shoenmakers, C Edwards, Roberts, Freijah, Demattia).

Thinking Hastie and De Mattia will be well gone before both of our picks.

Don’t understand all the love for Mannagh. Had a good stretch in the VFL this year but is a very exposed commodity.

I’d be keeping our Future 1st now and using our two x 2nd picks we currently have on whoever we have on our list of likes…

We certainly can’t compete with other clubs in a position of having better draft picks for any middle first round deal picks, unless WCE trade out to NTH for a great deal then all clubs with 1st round picks might be very satisfied in using what they have…

Geelong is certainly looking for a deal that heavily maximises valuable multiple picks for next year, i think they will most likely use their pick anyway…

Can’t see too many surprises within the first round of players being selected, just a shuffle of positional landings for a few of them, later few handful of picks in the first is where there might be where something a little unexpected happens…

Whoever we’re looking at and select, hopefully they have some combinations of the qualities we are lacking a bit in and help strengthening us as a list…

Few i like that possibly might not, probably will and hopefully still around our picks are…

Charlie Edwards : midfielder
Cooper Simpson : midfielder
Angus Hastie : defender
Billy Wilson : defender
Phoenix Gothard : forward

Will Dawson : key defender
