HUN 'Late mail'

It has suggestions for our '3rd pick', so either they're very wrong, or maybe we didn't end up adding Duffy to the list?
But we've already announced Cottrell's elevation, so if we had an extra spot we'd be adding a rookie?
Hope this is right

De la rue would be great if we have a 3rd pick I would look at Lloyd also. Rudd and torrent not the worst options either

I have confidence Austin knows what he is doing
Our list manager could be Sherlock Holmes or Winnie the Pooh and still my opinion on the matter wouldn't differ. With the league making the draft increasingly uneven, we should be stockpiling higher picks, not bunching them together. We could even trade our future first for a pick the following year if at least one of the Camporeale twins will demand a bid before it. It's seems like putting all our eggs into one basket to try and hasten the process instead of trying to make it surer.

I would be pretty surprised if it is.

Reckon the only chance of us taking a later pick is if we trade our 1st & 2nd for a higher pick.

I wonder if we would trade next years first for another pick this year if we can't upgrade?

I'd be bloody happy to bring in Moir, Simpson & DiMattea or Jiath ;)

We can always dream

I'm sure that if we traded F1, then the deal would include at least one of our picks (currently 22 & 28), and then getting a later F pick back.

I would be absolutely shocked for us to take 3 picks in this National Draft.
Assuming that we didn't actually put Duffy on the list, so that we do have 3 vacancies, then there would be no reason to elevate Cottrell if we wanted to be able to take a 3rd ND pick instead of a Rookie pick or SSP.

Didn't say he was.

He's not as fast as the elite smalls in the league. Papley, Cameron, Picket, Bruest, Bailey, Daniels, Frederick, Rankine all faster than him.

He's more akin to a Higgins. Which is not bad, just not quick. Confidence doesn't improve speed.

Agree Mots’ foot speed is not elite, but also not “slow”. Mots is quick enough to create separation in most attacking efforts. Unfortunately his speed when defending does not seem as effective.

Yeah we would need too. I doubt we go into next year with just a future 2nd rounder. I think it would be F1 + 28 for a current first + F2. Probably with a team like Adelaide or GWS who have multiple 1sts if the player they like is gone at their latter pick.

I'd still prefer not to as I don't think the calibre of player available justifies the risk of trading our F1. Definately don't want to package up our F1 with 28 just to move up a few spots.

I have been consistently told we want a spot for pre season or mature rookie.

If Duffy was the one we listed as Cat A, then we can get a spot by putting him on the Inactive List. But that happens after the draft.
Alternatively, I guess there's a chance that we didn't put him on the list at all.

Either way, I can't see us using 3 picks in the National Draft.

Way better odds then a late pick. With SPP you essentially get to trial 3-4 guys all who would be on a similar level to that late pick anyway and pick the best one.

Any word on whether we actually listed Duffy before his incident? Is his now a vacant list spot or do we have to move him onto the LTI list?

I agree he's just an inside clearance mid. I don't think we need outside run as such. We just need midfield pace, wherever that may be. Stevens doesn't have that.
Are we really going to get a quality pacy inside midfielder with picks in the mid 20s? I just don't see it, not in this draft anyway.

Just watched some footage of Simpson for the first time. Burst speed out of stoppages, kicking penetration, hits the scoreboard. Exactly what we are missing in our midfield. His cons are composure and versatility. He doesn't need to play anywhere else but midfield with his pace being his point of difference so that's not an issue, and composure can come with experience.

His strengths are agility, character, clean hands, kicking penetration, scoreboard impact and speed. Reads like a dream.

Boy does this write up sound familiar.

Roberts and Western Bulldogs NGA defender Luamon Lual are potential draftees for Carlton to end the first night, but the other possibility is South Australia’s Ashton Moir.

Moir, a talented forward, started the year as a top-five chance but form and injury issues – potentially connected, at least in part – saw him tumble on most clubs’ draft boards. Many recruiters would not contemplate him this early, but he is linked to Carlton, whether at this pick or their next one, early in the second round. Cooper Simpson is another player the Blues could consider.

Gold Coast look set to bolster their draft points haul further with impending trades early on Monday night with the Brisbane Lions (picks 30 and 39) and Fremantle (34 and 46) that are likely to see them part with selections 24 and 26.

Here's a compilation of the latest players rankings from the various media outlets put together by a poster on the main board. I was about to do something similar, but thank gawd someone else has already done the heavy lifting.

I took the liberty of deleting the Academy and F/S picks because they just tend to mess it all up - but below the red line is where our first pick (22) currently sits, and the yellow our second pick (28).

It's not a phantom draft - but just a bit of a guide to the players who may still be on the board on and around our current picks. If nothing else, it could be handy on draft night/s to show the players who will still be available with each of our picks.

Great work BH, makes it a lot easier to track who might be available around our current picks.

Is it really that shallow of a draft…?

How does Simpson compare to Clay Hall and/or Josh Freijah whom others have advocated for?
