Personally i think he plays a bit like Adam Treloar, wins his own ball and is equally as damaging on the outsides…
Quick smart carries and creates and runs both ways…
Kicks goals too…

What’s the knock on him then to not be in the first round?
They’re first rounder qualities

So the rumours about us being focussed on Moir are true.

The talent and skill level are obvious. Club obviously believe he has the fire and effort in him

Hope he develops an engine that can play further up the ground. If he can he have a genuine talent
If he can develop to play a similar role to Martin (albeit more offensive to Jack's defensive efforts) then it'd be a helluva 1-2 punch up forward. Has tricks to be great in other areas, but if we see him as the Heeney-type in our forward line... there's 100% a place for him and has a point of difference. No more forcing Matty K to play half forward, thank you very much.

Would Schoenmakers be of any interest if he didn't have a superboot?
Think so; he is a playmaker, has a rapport with Cowan and appears as much as I hate to say it to be a bit of a Dustin Fletcher-esque type. Also can pinch hit in ruck and as a Tasmanian we may lose him, but will get decent compensation if he comes on.

For us my preferences are:

Jiath
Lual
Roberts
Simpson
Sanchez
Edwards
Schoenmakers

The backmen I think actually have good comparison to our current ones

Jiath is a Newman type, tall and small interceptor with rebounding.

Lual is the Saad like pacy rebounder. Not as good defensively, but Adam is truly a standout there.

Roberts is a Docherty run and gunner, who would be best suited to an apprenticeship learning positioning as a zone defender (his one on one stuff is... Not his best suit)

Schoenmakers is very similar to Lachie Cowan, which is why I think we should miss.

I like Tew, good time to bring in a defender to learn the system and take over in a year or two, building rapport with Cowan, Boyd, Weitering etc.

Cooper Simpson has impressive points of difference as a mid which are worth a punt.

I like Koen as a half-forward mid type, but he'll need time to build the AFL physique

Mitch Edwards is talent, but 5 primary ruckmen is too much

I guess our future 1st is insurance. We have no idea how far the twins might rise in the rankings next year. We may need to trade that pick for more points, or we may be able to keep it and use it if they are expected to go lower.

Very likely to get more for our future first by trading it next year vs trading it this year.

I think Ashton has a lot of attributes which could lend themselves to midfield bursts.

Strong core, agile, great kicking, good movement.

Questions are how well he reads the play and running power. His hip issues will have affected endurance more than anything IMO ( I have had a similar issue and I just couldn't do my endurance running because of the soreness and slow recovery)

Lot of question marks about Ashton's development which o think is why he slid despite the obvious talent

Cal‘s mock has a few falling compared to others.

I would not be adverse to taking Stevens. I know we’re looking at run and carry and Fwd craft, but I think it would be wise to invest in a Cripps succession plan also. That big powerful extracting mid type and this guy is ready to go. Simpson and Stevens would be an excellent haul IMHUO.

If we’re talking Edwards and going big, I’d rather a hybrid ruck/KPF like Archer Reid. 200+cm super mobile with excellent disposal for a big man.
Reaching back to this post to avoid retreading the same ideas, I like the idea of balancing (now) Moir with George Stevens. Sure, we don't need a big bullocking mid right now but we will in no time at all plus Stevens has that massive leadership/character tick. I believe he was HB of the year in a rep team, too, so has a few positions.

Seems like he has what I've been talking about in spades: intangibles.

If Moir is the high upside pick, Stevens is the high ceiling pick. Worth noting that beyond Carroll, we don't have any/many guys who could play a full VFL season in the guts. So a great depth, future pick that could end up being (as he's compared to) our Jack Graham equivalent.

In saying this, I'm also keen on Simpson, Edwards (think HOK is super raw and Mirkov will be gone next year) and Jiath as our backline could use a guy with his skills in years to come as the older gen are moved on.

Not sure about that. Is "only" 194 cm so not really a key position. Played mainly as a third defender/winger this year. Pinch hit in the ruck? Can't see it.

This guy is my 'hope'.

Simpson
Roberts
Schoenmaker
Reid
Murphy

This kid has some SERIOUS AFL traits. Can imagine him playing next year very early for whoever he's drafted to.

EDIT: Just ready the piece about him from 19/11 in the Dandenong Community rag. His intangibles catch the eye as well. Particularly these quotes:

Does the Team Stuff
"During preseason, Dandenong midfield coach Leigh Stewart anointed the nickname ‘extras king’ for Cooper Simpson."

Stands up in the big games
"Simpson last year skippered the Stingrays for a game, kicked a match-winner to cap a polished best-on-ground performance in a crunch match against Gippsland and was consistent throughout September."

Loyalty and being a good person
"If I’m lucky enough to get drafted, that’s where I’d envisage spending the rest of my life at. I want to be a one-club player wherever I go and I’ll give my all to that club, Simpson said. I’m a loyal person, loyal to my teammates and loyal to the (Stingrays) and I’m an honest person, so I love seeing blokes develop and get great joy from seeing people get better as a human".

Kid is clean, has fought through injury and is apparently the last one on the training track so his dedication can't be faulted. Not sure where he plays but seems he might be someone you can plug and play just about anywhere from HF to HB.

Rapt we got Moir but a tad shattered with Collards as we got SOS'd a pick before ours :/

Plenty of talent on the board wouldn't mind either of Roberts, Schoenmaker, Simpson, Edwards

Love to know our thinking. We have Moir who is another mid sized forward. Do we go another?

If Edwards is available do we take a developing ruck or so we go some more run? Simpson?

Archer Ried is available? Lual is one I like

Key could be if we have a mature "role" player in mind as a rookie.

The question I would like to ask Austin is why did we only go with two picks? Given the eveness, and that we have the Campo kids next year should we have looked at another pick in the 20s by trading our F1? Did we put all our eggs in one basket trying to get a Top 10 pick?

We signed a few players on one year deals this year that are injury prone and/or are role players. Would another kid been better especially if we could have added a developing tall.
See, I reckon we have ample run.

Organic improvement from Williams, O. Hollands, Binns, Cotters.

We've added E. Hollands and Orazio....

Walsh is Walsh.

Next year the Campo boys....
