I signed up in 2015 so I have a long way yet unfortunately. Dad signed up in 1960/70 something - whatever the first year was and has platinum. Wish I got one earlier as I’m paying for it now

Do you guys just have access to purchase a ticket or is it free as part of the membership wi to AFL memberships?

I know of Richmond and Essendon AFL members that have bought tickets to our game.

Funny I now have absolute no interest in going to finals if Collingwood isn't playing.

Have been to two grand finals (92 and 94 with Geelong family members) over 35 years of membership and found it boring so never again.
This irks me. Theatre goers have the GF and should only get access when GA becomes available.

And, unfortunately, she is correct.
She is, but it’s quite dismissive.
I pointed out how times change eg, Anzac Day is now fully ticketed, (the 1st one was a lockout).
I know they have received a lot of feedback over the last couple of days.
Watch this space.

Agree, I think the issue stems more with the use of a system (Ticketek) where it feels uncontrolled in terms of access to purchase.

Some people get on before documented opening time, some people queue for only a couple of min others for half an hour. The randomness causes the anxiety of the process.

Scrap AFL members altogether.

A nonsense that the league undercuts clubs by offering a generic membership that sells itself on getting access to any and all AFL games, something clubs cant offer.

Even weirder that people who take up said league membership, as it is better value than just a club membership, then complain that any random supporter can also access a finals ticket...

The ticketing system is flawed.
You may recall the issues when we played Richmond in the 2018 PF?
Richmond supporters taking up “our” allocation?
My issue isn’t with the “randoms” accessing tickets per se.
Recognition of the team of support/years of membership is a common theme when discussing seating and tickets.
Regardless of membership type.

Long may those Richmond fans remember their heartbreak which would've been surrounded by Collingwood members.

And the point with "AFL" memberships is everyone purchases one as they are better value than a club membership, the league undercuts the individual club offerring, a key selling point being access to finals regardless of what team is playing.

Laughable that people then whinge about finals arrangements.

Just scrap AFL memberships altogether.

The Pies club support members can then pick which Collingwood membership suits them best and give their $$ to the Pies instead of the AFL.

And then with no AFL members, competing club members get to share a bigger overall allocation of tickets.

I have a different take. You can provide priority access to competing club members AND still allow full access to all AFL members because combined no two clubs can fill the allocation. The situation where people have attended 15 + Collingwood H&A matches and can wind up with an inferior seat to a neutral for a Collingwood final is rubbish.

How will the players be paid? Who will fund the football department of clubs? Marvel would not exist.

I had Collingwood social club membership for years, then when AFL was formed had both. Now only have AFL and apart from how tickets are allocated during finals am pretty happy that I can get to home and away games with a decent seat without too much hassle.

Pretty one eyed view.

AFL members exists for a reason and props up financial support for the league. It still has plenty of perks and most AFL members (at least in my circle) are paying club members too.

This is also true for example buying merchandise from club and attending functions.

Yes, very much aware of the perks and value...a big one being access to week1-3 of finals regardless of which team is playing.

These are perks that the clubs obviously cant compete with, and hence the AFL is able to funnel more money to the league instead of going direct to the clubs.

AFL members then jump up and down when other supporters get access finals...despite it being one of the big selling points and value of the membership.
How will the players be paid? Who will fund the football department of clubs?
The clubs.

Clubs get a TV distribution from the league, but return memberships back to clubs directly instead of competing with them.

There would still be "equalisation" as clubs who get poor TV slots deserve additional funding.
Marvel would not exist.
Is that a good or bad thing? 😜

Oh not disagreeing, if you put up AFL membership against a Collingwood club membership...the value for money is with AFL.

If Collingwood is chosen as club support, then they end up with a measly amount of $$, roughly equivalent to a 3 game membership.

And yep, you can go along to all Collingwood home games, plus a few other big games if you want.

And come finals this year, the big perk is that if you want you can roll along to the Saints v GWS, Carl v Syd game and Pies v Dees...tis great value.

Part of that value offering is accepting that it doesnt matter if you are a Pie club support or Carlton club support, all AFL members get the same access to any final at the G.

This is also true for example buying merchandise from club and attending functions.
Club members and even non members of any sort also buy merchandise.

Bugger off. I have a guaranteed gf ticket.

People are just asking for club support to be considered.

Lucky you, another perk of AFL membership.

Going AFL means get a chance at any GF once make it to Gold.

From an AFL members perspective they dont acknowledge club support or tenure (gold in the same bucket) at all for week 1 and 2, as per the membership T&Cs.

A bit rich for people to take up the better offering and ability to access more games and finals, only to then complain because you are competing with non-Collingwood fans for access, as per the stated T&Cs.

If there was no AFL members, you wouldnt have Essendon support members getting access to seats at the same time as a Collingwood support member. An Essendon member have no access rights unless Essendon competing, makes sense.

And you could offer more tickets to the actual club members for finals and GFs...instead of giving a big bunch to AFL members.

hi all
quick question (mainly just to ease my anxiety that i may have missed an email) haha
at what point in time does the email saying we have to 'register for GF tickets if collingwood is a participating club' on X date come out?
*i have a Family Legends membership with guaranteed GF tickets

would it be next week some time? or only if/when we get to the prelim?
knock on wood

Why? Without the afl members there would be no redevelopment of the mcg. Also as I gold member I am basically guaranteed a grand final ticket if Collingwood make the grand final as I have Collingwood club support. Also out of my $600.00 membership fee $150.00 goes to Collingwood and I receive my membership scarf and stickers as a Collingwood member.

All we are saying is that for the first week of the finals that competing clubs with golf membership should have priority access. I have been a member for 27 years which even the Collingwood football club recognised and we received my 27 year pin. It does not make sense that it is harder for me to get a afl ticket in the first two weeks of finals then it becomes easier by prelim final as only gold members (caped at 30,000) have access to 22,000 afl seats. This changed in 2019 after 1,000’s of complaints that gold Collingwood and Richmond afl members missed out on a prelim final due to allowing all gold, silver and bronze members access to purchase tickets but then Richmond gold members all got a grand final ticket.

With enough complaints the afl may change their ticketing structure. I Also think the afl membership numbers have dropped since 2018 (how convenient)!

I remember the afl had approximately 66,000 members now they are at 49,000! But still there is close to a 20 year wait list for gold membership which is capped at 30,000. The only reason why I am still a afl member is that I am guaranteed at gf ticket. The day I am not is the day I’ll look a a Collingwood social club membership

From memory it’s the week prior to the preliminary finals. Ticketek enjoy getting grand final registration admin fees from x4 sets of supporters instead of just from the x2 grand final teams…
